Is Sim Drifting Realistic? Assetto Corsa Drifting Vs Real Life with Comparison Footage

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This year I moved from sim drifting to the real thing, and this video talks about how realistic drifting on Assetto Corsa is based on my experience. It includes both in-car and drone footage from a track called Midpond in Alabama, along with comparison shots from the same track in-game, which should hopefully provide some good insight on the similarities and differences between the two.
Whether you're an IRL Drifter debating on getting a sim for seat time, someone with a sim debating on trying IRL drifting, or someone who's completely new to sim/drifting, check this video out!
Topics in this video:
0:00 Intro
0:38 Cockpit Comparison - Sim Skills vs Real Life
1:22 G-Force and Struggles Going From Real to Sim
1:58 Drone Comparison - Driving Line and Track Conditions
2:18 Realism for Mod Levels and Types of Cars
2:57 Comparison of My Hands on Sim vs Real
3:46 Verdict - Where it's the Same
4:03 Verdict - Where it's not the Same
4:30 Verdict - Overall Takeaway

My Story *********************
In 2022 I purchased a 2007 Nissan 350z to start attending my first drift events, and I've learned quite a bit along the way. The community has been great and I'd very much like to pay it forward and help anyone looking else looking to get into drifting for the first time. Any burning questions as someone wanting to learn how to drift? Send them my way and I'll either respond or cover in a future video.

I started real life drifting late 90s, stopped in 2006 because our track closed (Hawaii Raceway. Recently got my sim drift setup (relivately new to sim) and downloaded our defunct Hawaii track in AC, feels 99% like it did in real. I use the same techniques approach the course the same. Also I iniitally started with a t248 (didnt feel real) then to Fanatec Direct, made all the difference.

Yeah t300 at a minimum as far as I'm concerned. Getting away from the lower end wheels (g29/t248/etc.) really does make a difference.

You're gonna be in for a real fucking shock if you experience that anywhere near the limit on the backroads, I'll tell you that much lmao. 100hp is scary, 300 is terrifying, 400+ is racecar driver shit. Be safe, bro kzread.info/dash/bejne/aGihxpSJhLLKdNI.html

@@RhodokTribesman I know you mean good, but i actually drive Audi S8 1997 (340hp) and ofc i'm gona have instructor beside. Cuz that instructor gave me few spins in 400hp drift car (drift taxi) on the same polygon I'm gonna drift on anyways. For drift on this polygon i'm gonna use modified car (instructor gives one at the beginning for learning purposes) which i'll buy after i learn track and get comfy, actually good deal (RWD Audi A4 1998 - V6 produces 310hp and it's perfect for the drift polygons). Great video mate! Well presented, very imformative! Great for me as its something I intend to do at some point, hopefully. Have offer of a wet airfield to use, will be a bit of a challenege as my car is a FWD estate car, (can't afford another RWD car atm), but once the tires are nearly ready for a change I'll be taking it there to at least enjoy getting the back end out under lift off oversteer in a safe enviroment. Really enjoyed watching this. Cheers!

I have a DRIFT Experience coming soon where i will drift with their cars on a track and i'm very much looking forward to it and put in the skills i'm learning in Assetto Corsa.

Yeah a lot of people struggle with that, just have to get used to drifting more from the feedback in the wheel instead of what you would feel in the car. Try easier packs like gravy Garage, they've got a ton of steering angle which will probably help transition you over.

I love your channel!! Most people have never touched a car ever, or start playing the game after 10+ years of drifting irl So I think that your channel is very unique and the videos are cool cuz they resemble 2012 KZread Also, I have a question about the cars in game. If I haven’t drifted irl, how can I know if a mod is realistic or not? Thank you for uploading!!

Appreciate it. Very much going for that vibe before everyone bloated their videos for the sake of ad revenue. Honestly without having real life driving experience you probably just need to lean on other folks with experience to confirm what's realistic or not. I thought I knew what was realistic when I first started drifting on Assetto, but now that I drift in real life I have a completely different perspective.

tbh with the road feel and suspension feel even though it never going to feel 100% to real life IMO that's where you need a motion sim and no not the seat mover kind. I'm talking like the 3 or 4 or 6 axis motion platforms

  • @JankyDrift

    @JankyDrift

    Жыл бұрын

I've driven a few motion rigs and they definitely do help with immersion. Would love to upgrade my rig to motion eventually as it definitely gets you closer to real life, but honestly it's still a far cry from the real thing.

@@imadragnZ if you install an angle kit most of them will decrease the rotation needed for your steering wheel to hit full lock in either direction. That’ll make your car feel more like the ones in the game do. They also generally allow for caster adjustments which affects how fast your car will self-steer.
