@@adgato75 I don't know, it seems possible to me that "The Dating Game" made it easier for him or her to see than we thought so that they'd end-up with the dates they actually wanted. Then again, Harlan Ellison was a contestant once, and when he wrote about it he didn't mention anything like that, and he would have jumped at the chance. (When asked where he'd take his date on a first date, his answer ended with their going to the City Dump to shoot rats. He didn't get picked, for some reason.)

I was in Doolin as a child passing through on vacation, had the honor to receive a tin whistle lesson from Micho Russell in between sessions. The village is essentially one or two square blocks surrounded by a scattering of B&B's, I imagine you have to range a bit to find new dating opportunities with no blood relation.

I’m an Irish person and I have to say that this was fecking hilarious! I loved the shitty accents :) I also didn’t know that Irish people were stereotyped for being inbred but honestly I couldn’t give a shit, it’s just a bit of lighthearted comedy and everyone knows that this stuff isn’t true. You probably know 0 people who watch the show bc you align yourself with people of similar views. Lol at all the accent debate: 1) They write and rehearse this in one week. None of these comics are dramatic actors trained in foreign accents. It's all for fun 2) It's filmed for an American audience, who doesn't care about the quality of the accent. That's not where the comedy is.

Agreed. Hint of a lilt is sufficient to sell the location. And Bill, Kate, and Cecily each had their moments of getting it more or less right, so that it didn't resemble working class English.

Yes and if I have to sit through British actors doing terrible American accents while being paid millions of dollars (I'm looking at you, Benedict Cumberbatch)! I think this is okay. I will say though Irish actors usually do a good job...Saoirse, Colin Farrell, Fassbender, etc...

Actually, I'll take it further. The point is to find the uncanny valley of an accent that's not perfect, but close enough to be funny, preferably exaggerated. That's what makes this kind of sketch funny. Just look at Fat Bastard from Austin Powers. If it's spot on, there's nothing funny there.

If the sketch was any longer, I'm pretty sure Molly would have won because she'd say something about her ancestors and Niall would realize she's also his cousin, and he'd pick her because she was the only cousin he hadn't been with.

Once in a while I come back here just to relieve Bill Hader's "picky-picky"
