Louis did not “mentally pursue” Lestat. He was simply interested and attracted to him. That’s not pursuit. The show is very clear about which things Lestat says that are to be interpreted as true and which ones weren’t. That one wasn’t. The Claudia turning scenes were the Lestat version that Louis was referring to. Lestat literally wrote a song titled “Come to me” and recorded it TWICE

Thank you!! I thought it was very obvious that that the coven was spinning a twisted version of their story to make Louis and Claudia look worse, and make Lestat look like the victim. I actually didn't notice Lestat's weird swaying, but I didn't even need that clue, they stated and showed very clearly, multiple times, that Lestat went off script and contradicted what Santiago was saying, and Santiago looked pissed.

Same here, I had been hoping all season that somehow Lestat could save the family, but clearly he had been tortured and glamored. Hence the wobble and going off script. SCRIPT...the first sign something was wrong. Delainey gave us a Claudia for the ages and unlike ever before I loved her. When someone is invading your innermost private thoughts HOW is that seen as you mentally pursuing them? Someone will have to explain that one to me! I also vehemently disagree with you that Louis didn't have the dark gift forced on him. If someone caught you at your most vulnerable after you'd just lost your brother, while your mum blamed you for it. Then you find out that the only friend who would sit and listen to you talk was also killed. You're drunk, depressed and ready to unalive yourself so you turn to your childhood priest, only to have him and ANOTHER priest murdered by the offender RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES. But you're supposed to just up and say "You know what fam...sounds good, but I'm going have to say no to your offer". Like what?! That logic makes little sense to me. Louis may be a lot of things but imo he did not seek, pursue, or hunt Lestat. And he sure as hell didn't know what he was agreeing to when he said yes to Lestat in that church!!

100%. I don't know why people think Lestat has no reason or motive to lie and that only Louis can be deceptive. Lestat's version of how they met was 100% a lie in my opinion also. And yes, he definitely had the dark gift forced upon him, AND he wasn't told what the rules were because Lestat wanted to hold all the power in the relationship and keep Louis at his disposal. Lestat also lied about the cheating. He started cheating on Louis because Louis started speaking up about not wanting to kill humans and that disgusted Lestat. He cheated in their own home right in front of his face. So, Lestat was not some poor victim looking for love through a side chick. That was also an exaggeration. But whatever, everyone worships Lestat. I'm one of the few who does not.

He never apologizes to her for turning her against his better judgement, the man chased her down, and taunted her with her own assault Louis is the only one that gets apology, although it was Claudia spent months nursing him back to health. This is a shot in the dark but is it plausible Armand is in cahoots with the Ragland dude and possibly responsible for hacking Daniel’s laptop? I mean there has to be something more to the reason Armand is always with his iPad in season 1. I also thought RA telling Daniel “It’s Armand you fear when it should be the other one “ is exactly something Armand would want Daniel to think. And then there is the issue of real Rashid being able to go undetected and/or undead when it’s known the Talamasca is awful at protecting its assets……. It’s not like Armand hasn’t been playing both sides for centuries. Louis used to be the pimp but Armand is the puppet master. And probably more of a sociopath than Lestat.

It’s be a long while since Ive read the books so I am forever appreciative of all the book info you insert into your reviews. I know Anne Rice eventually ran with Lestat as her character and primary protagonist as the series evolved. However, I loved how the writers framed this as it being Lestat’s version within a “script” ….. so as the audience you are left perplexed. You know that it calls into question Louis as an even poorer historian, rethink key moments, but it’s still over dramatized and framed within a trial with intent to execute, so you question the balance and truth of what you are hearing. Given how they added in the details of how Claudia was actually made in this way, I’m now soooo curious if they are going to actually layer in more of Armand’s deviance. I can’t stop watching this show!!!! Thank you for your recaps. I’m curious though what are your thoughts on how it’s playing out?

I cried so much in this episode.😢 This episode breaks me, Claudia and Madeleine shine in this episode, I cried for them, and I hated everyone (except Louis and Armand). And her last speech, I do hope she k*lled everyone after what they done! And I won't be surprise if Lestat fans, on the show, I mean, people STILL blame Armand. Even when Lestat DIDN'T tell them the laws, and when HE just watched Louis almost get off like Claudia and Madeleine, if it wasn't for Armand saving him. To be honest, I don't believe some of Lestat's statements either. And I didn't feel sorry for him, and this episode it made me hate him more! I know people will try to make Lestat a "victim," but he is JUST AS GUILTY for k*lling Claudia and almost Louis. Again, the show is different in the book. Lestat in the book was more passionate and told them to leave Louis, whereas in the show, he was effin cold and didn't do anything. Armand in the show showed more feelings and regret, whereas in the book, he was the one who was calculated and cold. Santiago and the vampires of the theatre are also to blame, but for some reason, I like Santiago because he makes a good villain. I can't wait for episode 8! There were times when Lestat was able to go off script, and he looked pained (physically) getting back on. It was taking an emotional toll on him as well. I’m wondering how Lestat weakened enough in the show to be controlled. I'm pretty sure Marius did meet Lestat in the show and he just omitted that part from his story on stage because in Episode 7 of last season he literally mentioned Those who must be kept which we haven't heard about since. I also think Paris coven calling Lestat from the U.S. is false and Armand definitely has been keeping Lestat captive this entire time. This "trial" more revenge for Armand because Lestat left him and found Louis and also Santiago because he's just a bitter bitch. I can't wait to see Louis go John Wick in the Finale.

So they took my trauma from the season 5 fight and repackaged it to finally finish me off...when i tell you im not okay!!💀 A maniacle Louis will now haunt my dreams. This coven is so screwed... When Lestat said Louis was the one who came after him and basically told him to come to him, i took that to mean those were the running thoughts in Louis' mind while he was human. Remember how he did admit that after meeting Lestat for the first time, Louis could only think about Lestat and how he both admired and loathed him. He was already a bit obsessed with him since that day. So is it possible that he embelished parts of his story to make it seem like Lestat was only one obsessed with him? 👀

The next books are The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, Tale of the Body Thief, Memnoch the Devil, The Vampire Armand, and I'm not sure after that because that's as far as I have gotten. I would say that The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned are my favorite, followed by either Interview with the Vampire or Tale of the Body Thief.

@@ashleyprice9487 no problem! You will not regret getting into the books. After Interview with the Vampire, they actually continue to get better. They really hit their stride with The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned. They really give you background to the other vampires and the vampire world that Interview with the Vampire barely gets into. I will tell you that if you're looking for a love story between Louis and Lestat in the first book Interview with the Vampire, you won't find it. In fact, all he does in that one is pretty much complain about how horrible Lestat is. It's not until The Vampire Lestat and later books that you get into the romantic nature of their relationship. I think Anne Rice fell in love with the character of Lestat and decided to go more into the romance of the relationship.

I also don't believe the moment where Armand controlled all the humans in order to save Louis. Impeccable directing that really left clues for the viewers that what has transpired is clearly not completely true.

AMC's reworking of the original 1976 novel is both fascinating and brilliant. So entertaining and heart wrenching. Like the novel. Lestat sadly falls for the wrong man "Louis" .. It is doomed from the start . Louis from the novel being a plantation owner and being turned in to a vampire in 1791 and our current AMC version with Louis in Storyville New Orleans .. both Louis are not elegant/cultured like Lestat. After Louis is turned to a vampire he is in "victim" suffering mode. He feels guilt for being a vampire and drinks blood of animals to avoid human kills. His mistake of bringing Claudia into the mix etc... is obvious from the beginning to be doomed. Lestat of course as illegally depressed and tortured pining over the wrong guy. LOL. Blondes are my type. And I think .. Hmm I would have been a better match for Lestat. I'm a concert Pianist, actor and speak fluent French LOL. Anyway Lestat's emotional pain was so raw in this version.. And of course the murder by sun of Claudia and Madeleine is cruel... it will now set up a new narrative. As AMC season 2 ends let's hope for a season 3 which would start at the second book VAMPIRE LESTAT. I lived briefly in New Orleans and actually even attended one of Anne's Vampire Balls. After Katrina Anne lived here in CA in Palm Springs for a while. Being an artist dev in LA industry my path has crossed with both Anne (before her passing) and Christopher... and they made plans for whole series. I love the fresh remake .. After the 1976 novel. Resetting in Dubai , making Louis/Claudia gens de couleur and resetting the beginning in 1900 and Theatre des Vampyrs from Belle Epoque Paris to WWII is just fascinating and works so well. I hope we do get season 3 With Lestat.. as though the acting of all characters is fab.. Louis and Armand's weepy sufferings gets old. In book 2 we will see Lestat as a Goth rock star, and flashbacks to his life before becoming a vampire and also Gabrielle .. Lestat's Mom so this could add some great new characters. I hope they set the rock star years in the 1980s Goth/New Ro scene which would work so well. Remember Anne gave AMC the rights to all 13 vampire books. So who knows. With the success we should hopefully get about 2 seasons per book. What a lot of fans miss who are not well read or musical are all the symbology that goes so deep. For example the Ravel Piano Concerto in G, movement 2 is the love theme at the piano for Lestat/Louis and was perfect as it was written in Paris in 1932 by a gay composer . As a music coach and concert pianist.. I loved Louis and Claudia playing Debussy's Pan (Pan God of the Summer Wind)... so fits Lestat's vanity. And the Don Pasquale tenor from season 1 murdering the coloratura. I was like. FUCK kill him.. Thanks Lestat LOL. Donizetti should never be butchered. LOL. (Aesthetically I think like Lestat LOL) . Lestat playing stride to Bach was also hysterical. So clever the whole show. And so interesting as I adore AMC Interview but despised the the Mayfair Witches.. . But I highly recommend the 1990s Feast of All Saints Anne Rice mini series which is also brilliant. Too bad there is no mini series for Anne Rice's Cry To Heaven. Elton John attempted a musical work but it was lack luster and his Vampire Lestat musical was a flop . Needed a composer like Webber or Sondheim to bring it to life. Enjoy fellow Vampyrs ..... Now I sensually move to the clavecin with Lestat to play through François Couperin Ordres by moonlight. What did Lestat ever see in Louis? At least with Nicholas Lestat had a fellow virtuoso.

I am a Lestat girl all the way so this episode was so deeply satisfying. I have never accepted Lestat as an abusive boyfriend although he certainly can do cruel things when hurt (like dropping Louis). BUT as much as I believe that Lestat's side of things would reveal more of the truth, I feel compelled to point out that what we heard was NOT actually Lestat's point of view. It was Lestat, probably manipulated by Armand or someone else and also as told to us by Louis! This is still Louis' point of view we are getting, sorry to say. And as you poibted out, there was that weird moment where it seemed that Lestat was "out of it". ALSO, I have to mention that moment when Louis and Lestat were arguing about making Claudia a vampire and Lestat said "It is a violation of the Xth law." I believe that Lestat would have enough empathy to realize that this was a bad idea, but I don't believe Lestat gives a shit about any great laws. Which means to me that that bit was scripted. Perhaps it is all true except for that (I'd like to think so). It goes without saying that Sam Reid is brilliant and amazing and I loved every second of it, and I cannot wait for The Vampire Lestat.... but I fear some of what Lestat said might be untrue in certain particulars, even if true in general. I have been in love with Lestat since I read his book in the 80s and it kills me to see him referred to as a toxic and abusive lover. He loves so hard and so completely. It's kinda his move.

This show deviates from the source material quite a bit but I still think it's a brilliant adaptation. One of the most important aspects of the books is the fact that Louis is an unreliable narrator, and this episode really highlights that.

  • @NemoEtNihil
    @NemoEtNihil15 күн бұрын

My prediction, based on the previews of next episode: Louis is going to burn Lestat and leave him for dead and/or crippled in the basement of the theater. Unbeknownst to Louis, Armand is going to take Lestat's burnt body and entomb him in one of the vaults, where he remains for decades. This is why Armand told Louis that he knows where Lestat is in the flashback episode, and why he was able to find him by telepathy: Armand has been telepathically tormenting Lestat for decades with details of his life with Louis. It was finding out that Louis was vulnerable and in pain that gives Lestat the push he needs to break free, thus leading us into the events of season 3 and The Vampire Lestat. Calling it now.

Yeah louis really is the biggest manipulator. These older vampires are so desperate for love and companionship. Hes got a pattern of manipulating everyone including claudia. He pushes situations further until someone cracks whether it be him or his partner. Treating claudia as an object for redemption instead of the person she is, hes really just as much a villain as everyone else. You could tell they had lestat in a trance and if he could, he would’ve tried to save Claudia. You could tell lestat was disgusted with the script he was saying. The acting was crazy. I feel so bad for Claudia, she knew Louis was lying and lestats version of her turning was the truth. The actress said Claudia looked to Lestat, her parent, for help in her final moments despite everything that happened between them.

Can we please stop pretending the SCRIPTED PLAY that is designed to make Louis look like a villain and Lestat like a victim is the 100% correct objective truth. Louis says when it comes to the turning of Claudia that Lestats version was probably closer than the version that he told. It is now retold by him and Armand, true, but they are treating it as his perspective, the same goes for most viewers. That we still haven't gotten Lestat from truly Lestats point of view yet is beside the point. The point being is that everyone is an unreliable narrator, that all memories are subjective and malleable

No one wants to see their neighbor eaten by a bear, but if you know your neighbor has been antagonizing the bear for years, would you feel as sorry for them? And notice how when we see Lestat's version of the fight, Louis doesn't deny that retelling. Dont forget, Louis is a gay man as a human, a Pimp, and a conman. He also grew up in a religious household where he had to lie about who he was and what he did constantly. Add on top of that vampirism and hes at odds with every part of himself. I think he partially blacks out when he does some of the really bad stuff like what he did in the fight to protect himself subconsciously, which is partly why hes such a bad historian.

And about the side pieces let's Run it back she was in the picture before Claudia and lestat was already cheating. So on both instances Louis was under traumatic events and depression so he was not in his right mind, so who are we still have this notion that lestat was the victim, I love him but I'm very self aware I love assholes
