For TWO SEASONS they have proved it is better to have what you called "elder aged" 😂 vampires. Did we not see the horrific tragic life of Claudia being made with an undeveloped frontal lobe and no life experience. She was all excess and torture and love and thirst at the same time, ALL THE TIME, 😂. I mean it is an advantage for "elder" aged persons [your words btw, lol] is no one really pays attention to them, an advantage to a vampires I would imagine.

Daniel being turned in this period of the story, but I am here for it. I also hope he copes better than he does in the books. I look forward to Season 3. I read "The Vampire Lestat " as a teen in the 80s, so I am excited. There are parts of the book that are absolutely hilarious. I can't wait. I am also happy that there is character growth for Louis in the series. I agree that Louis was miserable and incessantly whiny in the books.I am happy for him. The portrait of Paul and Claudia's yellow dress on display made me cry. These are the two big losses in Louis' existence, but I am happy he has something to memorialize. 😢🥹❤

However, it felt rushed and bounced around quite a bit in comparison to other episodes. Regardless, if they do go to season three which focused on Akasha and did terrible at the box office. I wonder who they will cast. Singer Aliyah played her in the past.

Name dropping Akasha was literally for our benefit as viewers on the other side of the fourth wall. (A little tease for season 3) It would have made more sense in context if he said Marius or those who must be kept. That would have gotten a reaction out of Armond.

  • @cyanrose499

I thought it was a little awkward too, especially because there was barely a reaction when he said it. But if Marius really was close with Armand, then he would have told him about more about Akasha compared to what other vampires know about Those Who Must Be Kept. It's at this part that I wished Daniel would have picked up on that and asked more because a vampire that's so powerful that he can't be killed by fire unless he's willing has to be a massive revelation. Wouldn't it mean that even if Louis and Claudia tried to burn him back in New Orleans it wouldn't have worked anyway?

Louis has always had Akasha's blood since Lestat made him. Lestat has never mentioned it because he was sworn to secrecy about TWMBK by Marius. Plus Louis never wanted to truly embrace his powers, he got into his fire gift and blocking with Armand. But losing Claudia he is now all in , for example how he summoned Santiago. Now knowing he is more powerful, he will hone them all as a tribute to Claudia, who always loved being a vampire. 😊

Okay. I've loved your recaps of all the episodes. I also really love that you compare what happens on the show to what happens in the books, especially for us non-book readers. Thank you. I love hearing the differences and it seems the show really elevates the characters and plot-lines. It's just SO good. I love the way they handled Daniel being turned because I didn't really see this older version of Daniel, begging to be turned into a vampire (maybe his younger self but definitely not his older self). Nothing truly surprised me but I will say, I have watched S1 a million times and it never occurred to me that Louis made an error with Lestat talking to him when he first went to eat the salesman. Because fledglings can't hear their makers telepathically. So that was an interesting tidbit. I'm also very curious to see a lot more of Armand's development in S3. He's a very complex and intriguing character and I want to dig into his motivations especially for some of his decisions in S2.

The first thing Daniel brings up the tractor salesman and how Lestat spoke to him telepathically. This has been bothering me since episode 2. I thought this was a mistake for the longest time. Daniel says that he shouldn't be able to do that since he made Louis. Louis throws this away by saying, oh maybe he whispered it to me. I know this was building to Lestat being strong in mind powers, and proving that Lestat was the one to save him. But, I'm still wondering if this is going to come up later and Lestat could read Louis this whole time if he really tried. I've rewatched some of season one and there is also the walk with Louis where Lestat hesitates before telling him he can't read his mind anymore. Did you notice these things or am I reading to much into gestures?

Three take aways from the episode. First, i never thought we were going to know anything about Santiago's dick before he died, yet here we are. Second, i have a theory that Louis' Uber/ taxi driver is related to Odette Mayfair. He says something of (i think) his wife lives in NOLA and named Odette. Coincidence? Third, the shot of Lestat and Louis grieving hits a bit harder when you remember that, without meaning to during the creation of the novel, Lestat was based on Anne's husband, Louis for her, Claudia for her daughter who passed. It was like we saw the ultimate symbol of the love Anne and Stan had for each other as they dealt with their grief.

16:24 I really liked this series mostly because when I heard of the synopsis of the book originally and in context to the rest of the 'vampire chronicles' I didn't really see a 'point' in events of IWTV and by that I mean the point of the actual interview. It just seemed they could have just told Louis story and been titled 'stuff some vampires got up to'. Here it shows there was a reason for the interview, where Louis and Daniel basically revisit his life and he comes to terms with the events and reconcile with the past, both the good and the bad.

IIRC, Daniel was offered being turned by Louis either last season or this one and he said he didn't want it anymore, as he'd have to watch his loved ones grow old and die. So now that he's been made a vampire 'out of spite' by Armand, it's definitely more of a punishment for him now (and Armand knew that, because he was there when he admitted that fear). Definitely so many layers. I mean, I'm glad it helped Daniel with his Parkinson's and that he's probably more mature now that he's older than back in SF,so he can maybe handle things better, but still, his journey is going to be very interesting!

I think in the film, he was poor without Louis' money (which is flipped in the TV show, as Lestat is usually the one with money instead). Not sure why he's poor in the show. Maybe it's just vampire depression? I feel like in the book this is just before he buries himself to sleep for a while before the events of 'The Vampire Lestat'. (But I haven't read the book since the 80s -- going to re-read it this summer -- so I could be misremembering).

It occurred to me after watching this finale that Armand is only now "boring" because they've given away all of his attributes and arcs. His relationship with his fledgling that develops them both, his entrepreneurship, and love of art, have been given to Louis; all his foundational relationships have been made unuanced and/or negative (his parents now sold him, Marius pimped him, Louis gets with him only to spite Lestat in error); they've taken away his love of religionous iconography for some reason (not sure I want it back, as it wouldn't make sense now); and then finally his dignity because he at least chose to leave Louis in the books. They've made him this one-note, weak sauce mid villain (even if Assad's superb performance tries to lift it). I think the show writers either don't understand Armand, or they don't care about him. Daniel has now had so much bonding and development with Louis - who is now the one who imbued Daniel with a desire for career longevity - that he might as well have been Louis' fledgling - it would be more honest, lbr. Any attempt to do Devils Minion now, or retroactively, is just going to be an empty exercise that only serves the purpose of doing that thing in the books. I can only hope to God that they don't delude themselves that Armand/Louis is somehow endgame. It's not. Just age up Benji and Sybelle and make that a throuple and forget Daniel with Armand. Daniel's just snarky American David Talbot now. And you wouldn't pair him with Armand either. This is just one of those things that all the changes they've made has completely flattened. Guess they can't make it gold all the time. I just hope the recognise that, and the fact that Assad and Eric don't have any chemistry, and keep it pushing.

I agree, I loved the season until the episode of Armand's betrayal of Louis and Claudia, even with the changes compared to the book I thought they were enhancing them. But I was expecting a different outcome, this one didn't do justice to the character of Armand/Assad who had a magnificent journey and performance for an ending that was a bit meaningless and lost. Armand is a suffering character, who needs someone and eventually chose Louis and loved him. He's a powerful vampire and they stop portraying him that way. If they wanted something dramatic and were trying to follow parts of the book, in my opinion the ending could have been the revelation of some repressed memory in which Armand had liked Daniel since San Francisco and then he chose to leave Louis and due to his age he would have turned Daniel (in one episode Louis is making fun of Daniel about his marriage proposal to Alice and Armand defends and consoles him, it made sense for Alice to be him - just as he confuses memories as he says in his own book the reference to the car he never had). They could have the same follow-up, Louis goes to visit Lestat later, be in the same emotional state and both regret their actions and past and with the launch of the book Louis ends up leaving the threat in the air. But it’s just my opinion 🤷🏼‍♀️

I am guilty of not reading the books (but I saw the 1994 movie). I guess it’s like watching the Harry Potter movies without reading the books. The “Readers” don’t respect the “Non-readers” . However, the writers make it clear the TV series is just “based” on the books, which must be very frustrating to the readers. That is why I won’t read the books until “after “ Season 3, 4 (?).

I feel like Louis took that monologue from Lestat. That whole thing sounds like something Lestat would say, and if I'm not mistaken I swear he did say something along those lines...summoning all the vamps who wanted to take him out. It really doesn't make sense. I mean is he even powerful enough to take on a bunch of vampires that are gunning for him? I think they did give this monologue to him because as you even said, Louis isn't the type to issue an ultimatum in such a ballsy way. That wasn't really his character. So I think this is a decision the showrunners decided. I read all the books and saw the movie, yadda yadda, and that was a notable thing about Louis' character. He was tortured about losing his humanity and his love of Lestat. He wasn't a bold and ballsy character. This was all Lestat and no one really compared. But then, I lost track of all these vamps. Anne Rice just about scrambled my brains trying to keep up with them!

Maybe bringing her back. I absolutely fell in love with the new actress that portrayed Claudia this season I want to see more of it, however it can be made possible (read that in the books she haunts both Lestat and Louis). Overall I'm absolutely amazed by this show and it continued to build on the beauty that was season 1, cementing it as one of the best shows currently available. Can't wait for season 3. What a wild and kind of weird finale to an otherwise mundane season where Louis and Claudia seemed extremely bound to the world of Armand and his theatre. Especially, since the showrunners chose to basically stretch it out for a whole season. Then, in this final episode it appeared rushed with some awful music as Louis got revenge. There were also not enough pertinent scenes showing what actually happened on screen as opposed to offscreen like when Armand attacks Malloy, lol.

Apart from the book version (which I've read), I don't think certain things make sense in this adaptation. If Louis' aim in doing the interview again was to clear up all his memories with Daniel's help and get to the truth, why did Armand allow it? With so much that had to be going through Daniel's thoughts, with the information he was receiving, couldn't they read his mind? Why did Armand stay with Louis for so many years if he didn't really love him? Or did he only stay after a certain point because he couldn't bear to be alone? Was it to the point where he only wanted to see Lestat suffer knowing that they would be together? If Santiago himself said that it was all his plan even though Armand directed the play and even though Lestat ended up saving Louis from death, why would Armand save him from dying in the coffin? Why did he save him in the 1970s from committing suicide? And since then, we don't know any more about the relationship until the present. What's more, after the incident in Paris, they traveled, passed through San Francisco and ended up in Dubai. I know there would have to be an end to the relationship, but it leaves a lot to be seen and an exaggerated reaction from Louis since he saved him anyway. Was Armand as interested in Daniel as in the book and that's why he turned him at the end? Confusing.

This is why i believe Lestat turning/giving Louis "the gift" was a lil premature b/c Louis was young (even though he was 33) but Louis had sooo much going on, family life, personal life, racism etc.. Lestat saw lust b4 he really saw Louis but it was too late, thus Louis not being able to let go of humanity. I just dnt understand why Lestat just gave Louis to Armand like that, they sure was passing each other around like nothing!

But I have to say, the last episode felt kind of rushed, and I personally dislike some of the changes. Like how Lestat wasn't even fighting for Louis, he was like "Oh, well, go with Armand," whereas the REAL Lestat would've been hurt and BEGGING to leave Armand, and go with him. Also, I dislike how Lestat mentioned Akasha so effin early, it should've been in The Vampire Lestat season. And, I thought we would see Lestat being tortured, but I was right, he was a part of killing Claudia, which I HATE, because in the book, he had NOTHING to do with it, he was just as a victim, and he looked like a victim (with scars and everything). And I guess the producers redeemed him to "saving" Louis, which is NOT true, in the book he never helped Louis, he was a prisoner, was weak, but this show wanted to show how "powerful" he was. And I HATE that they showed them saying "sorry" to one another, so damn early! Again, it should've been in The Vampire Lestat season, it just ruined it. But, I have to say, it did make me cry because it reminded me in the book where they reunited at the end of The Vampire Lestat book. It gave me flashbacks.

But I will say, I have a prediction. I bet season 3 will be the most "popular" hyped season because the main character isn't black anymore. Which will overshadow Jacob, Assad, and Delainey's brilliant performance (especially Assad). That's what I hate and am afraid of because you know, viewers dislike seeing black or a person who isn't white, as a main character, only side characters that isn't important or background actors. I hope it isn't like that (but I know it will) because season two wasn't as hyped, wasn't popular, when it should be because it was absolutely amazing, better than season one because the main characters aren't white (excluding Eric because he is old). I can see the future now.

Does anyone else think the dialogue in this last episode is subpar to all of the other episodes. The acting talent of both Reid and Anderson was almost wasted in the reunion scene by the script. In Louis’s revenge scene against Santiago, the dialogue was almost comical. I hope this doesn’t continue in Season 3.
