what about the Open source software can be installed separately.

Hi Logan, thank you for the videos about OpenPilot. As of February 2021, the new unit might install on home USB power only to Terms and Condition. The rest of installation needs to be completed with the connection in car. This is my personal experience after going through a few units. After watching your videos I decided to get OpenPilot, and it has worked wonderfully..... WHEN IT WORKED. There have been quite a few hardware failures on me, so within the one-year warranty period I am on my 3rd replacement unit. Their customer support is great, very generous to offer return and replacement when there's a problem, but the hardware quality is questionable. Have you experience problems? I am in LA/Las Vegas/So. Utah so very high dry heat during summer.

Suggestion, when you actually are connected to wlan it shows that it is connected and the connect to wifi button says select wifi or it will change the text to something like "Connect to another wifi" Also it shouldn't say Begin Training.. it should say Tutorial.. although i understand .. why it can't.. Something like.. here you can train your self. In my oppinion Begin training means.. ahaa I need to train this self driving model...

I just watched your video and installed the Comma 2 on 2017 Lexus RX350. But the steering wheel icon and the green outline does not show up like in the video. Has anyone had this problem?

Got comma ai today... What happens if you click install dashcam instead of open pilot? Is there still a way to install open pilot if you clicked dash cam by mistake?

It would be nice if you can make a tutorial on attaching comma pedal to comma 2.

I purchased one and plugged it in but it isn't turning on. I'm gonna return mine and get a new one

The dash cam mode is how they sold the EON-it makes it legal to sell while the advanced mode allows users to make their own “untrusted” modifications (of course that’s the intent anyways) that’s my understanding of it

Kevin Bhasi I suspect so yes. Everyone knows what they’re doing (who the hell sells a $1200 dashcam?) but if it’s *technically* the legally intended purpose it’ll get past regulations. I don’t know if this is still an issue but I believe it used to be.

SlowFox I don’t actually have the thing myself, but I do know that it does record the road view, and an opt-in driver-facing view to be sent to Comma for use in their model training. I’m sure you’re able to access this (I don’t know how, really-I believe there’s a web interface to see your drive data after it’s been uploaded to comma via WiFi [or comma prime cell service]) but it might have the driving overlay on top permanently. Join their discord server: discord.comma.ai/ there’s an awesome amount of knowledgeable people there. Update here if you find out, I’m curious how that works too!

I have a 2019 Camry and recently ordered Comma two. So once I open this out the box and install openpilot, I just have to mount this in my car and I am good to go?How do you "calibrate" it for Camry?

Have you received your Comma Two yet? Have you watched the installation video for the Corolla? The installation process should be almost identical and the calibration process is the same for all vehicles. Note that the Camry is an oddball in the Toyota family and OpenPilot is unable to improve your automatic acceleration and braking experience or give you Stop and Go in traffic if you don't already have it in your car. Whatever your car does with the radar cruise today is what it will do under OpenPilot.

There is a USB c port on the back in the the device with the screen. The harness set is sold separately

How does one update the OpenPilot software when new versions are released after the device is already installed in the vehicle?

Joe Burdick it will check then notify you to update automatically if connected to WiFi.

One question about how it works at stop lights. If the light you are approaching is red and there is no lead car to detect slowdown, will the system stop at the light or will the driver have to take over?

OpenPilot does not detect stop lights. You have to take over.

Thoong Ching Lee it is, currently driver monitoring isn’t enabled but the camera can see both sides of the car when centered. Hopefully an update will add RHD driver monitoring support. Instead it just uses wheel touch in RHD countries. As far as driving it works totally fine. It’s only concerned with staying in lane and doesn’t care which side of the road it’s on.

Just wondering why it doesn't ship with the software loaded up on it?

Probably not, but if it has the hardware to run it and you can program it anything is possible! You'd obviously need some port for vision. There are many community members dedicated to alternate hardware.

I understand all except the comma connect when i go to install from google play it says 3 months free so after 3 months you have to pay per month????

After installing comma 2 to your car. Is the precoalition system inside the corolla still work when open pilot is disengaged(off) and you are driving it normally? Also, When you turn of the car will it draw energy from the Car battery to stay on all the time? is there a way to turn it off and is it safe to do that?

It takes up too much windshield space. I don't want to stick my head out the window to see where I am going.

I just got mine but it doesn't seem to be powering on :(

Joe Burdick must plug it into your vehicle through the harness and comma power or a USB-C to USB-A charging adapter. Direct USB-C to power will not work.

@@LoganLeGrand I’ll be setting up the Comma Two before I fly to pickup my Prius Prime. Can I plug the Comma power into my old car’s obdII port for power during setup? (2010 Prius without Lain keep assist)

I have OpenPilot for my pre-autopilot 2014 Tesla Model S. Originally, it used v0.6.6 release and everything was basically fine. EXCEPT, I thought that OpenPilot was updated with automatic OTA updates and mine had not changed since new...still v0.6.6. So, after watching some videos on KZread that showed newer versions were available...such as v07.0, v07.7 and higher. I figured..."newer is better" so I want to upgrade my OpenPilot. I uninstalled and reinstalled OpenPilot with the v08.1-release. (I had no choice...that was what loaded when I connected to www.openpilot.comma.ai) Now I'm getting a message that states "White and grey panda are unsupported. Upgrade to comma two or black panda." I'm not 100% sure BUT I think that my OP came with a white panda. My question is: IF I buy the black panda, will my OP function at the higher level??? Next question: If it doesn't....how do I go back to v06.6 or another level that does not require the black panda????

It doesn't perform any better apart from being a better system. I'm not sure how to downgrade.

I can't help it but it always looks like some old HTC phone in a 3D printed mount :D EDIT: Aha, it looks like it actually is a phone (One+?)

LeEco LePro 3. Currently the software isn't limited by any of the hardware so it's a good for development. Once the hardware becomes a limitation I'm sure they will look for something more specific to their needs!

when i try to install openpilot it starts download and screen goes black did it twice

Ensure you are powering it from a USB-c to USB-A power source (not included) OR powering it from inside the car with supplied hardware (Comma power v2) That will ensure it has the proper voltage. You can't power it from the USB-c cable directly to a wall charger or computer. Not enough voltage.

@@LoganLeGrand just a couple more questions if you don't mind Logan when you plug in your, too it came on automatically does the, too turn off and on when you turn your car off and on or does it stay on can you have to physically turn the phone off when you cut the car off. Also I have a 2018 RAV4 and my cruise control is a stick on the side of the steering wheel I think yours was a button on the steering wheel, so when you calibrate the car the cruise control is not on correct

Got my comma 2 now. But my Problem is that the device won't power on

Jamesmichael Cabrera it has no battery. You need a usb-c to usb-a charging cable or adapter to power it on outside of the vehicle. It’s designed for a 12v car system.

What if you do not have WIFI? I refuse to have wireless as the radiation caused my sleep to get messed up...so I got rid of it.

There is no way you can feel the signal from the WiFi. It's a mental condition. Unless you're out in the sticks, you're probably surrounded by wifi networks from your neighbours, 3G signals, 4G signals, 5G signals, TV / Radio signals, satellite signals etc.
