    I’ve watched a bunch of your posts. Everyone for several years. I almost skipped this one. No reason, just lazy. For some reason decided to watch it anyway. Really amazing work. Thought I’d seen it all but this application is super creative. And I remember the table. Loved the legs the first time and again now. Will tune in for the kitchen post. The crew is growing. Nice haircut.

    What a magnificent detail to add to that fire place and the light fitting above it accentuates the beauty! Now that table base (and the entire table) you made in 2020 - that is awesome! This was intense. Was the fireplace piece sent down by semi? Do the coatings you put on react to heat or extreme heat near the fireplace or in general? By the way, Welcome to America's Lake Tahoe. Do you get the client as involved as possible when you are fixing into place? Good luck on your next build. I'm looking forward to it.

  • @BlackForestWoodCo

    @BlackForestWoodCo

    11 ай бұрын

    Yes we sent it down by truck! This was far enough back from the flame that heat wouldn’t be an issue, it’s best to avoid heat with our coatings. Our clients don’t always get this involved but this client wanted to be right in there, it was awesome!

    I don't think the dominos would help against shearing forces any more than on an edge joint. But it seems it would make the miter joint stronger against torsion flexing. the 45 degree angle glue faces would be weak against a shearing, rotational force, but the dominos would keep that from popping loose, almost like a gusset.

    i'm all about PL or liquid nail or whatever adhesive but there is no way i would trust an adhesive with that amount of weight that could literally kill someone if it failed. there has to be a better way to attach it, or use a couple screws and make black dowels like you'd make out of wood just with epoxy to fill the screw hole. 4 little quarter inch dowels aint gonna kill anyone to look at. nice looking piece otherwise.

  • @BlackForestWoodCo

    @BlackForestWoodCo

    The piece balances on its own without the adhesive, even before it was secured, it would take a considerable push to tip the piece over. The PL was just to hold everything in place!

    @Black Forest Wood Co. ya but what I'm saying is what if some 3 year old pushes against it or whatever scenario. I'm not trying to bust your balls. I love the channel and all the content but I install heavy stuff in family type rooms for my job and sometimes we use adhesives and sometimes we don't if gravity is in our favor. But if gravity is not in our favor I always add fasteners since I know I wouldn't trust my kids under/above/near it. Once again. Not trying to bust the old balls but *personally* I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that you're only relying on a chemical bond and not a physical one.

    @@TheEricj1337 U are 100% correct as if it was a slab of marble or even stone it would be mechanical tied into the fireplace. PL works great but I doubt it is related anywhere near the weight of that piece. Things happen and the liability there is insane and easily prevented. Just that block on top can kill someone at that height.

  • @paulmccullough7352

    @paulmccullough7352

    The PL 400 has a shear strength of 245psi, with the amount of adhesive applied over the full length of the piece, i cant even imagine a situation where it could fall over accidentally. I doubt you could get it to move even if you used a pry bar. And that doesnt even take into account that, as per the designs shown, it will be locked into place with a stone shelf that wraps around the whole fire place including the piece that they installed, which will act as a bracket/strap locking it in place.

    Good video as always, although I must say, if you are going to ask a question, it is ridiculous to not allow us to hear the question answered and then to allow hints of the answer only? What a waste and brings the level of the video down.

    This was engineered to be far enough away from the fireplace so that there would be no issues. It also depends on the epoxy, we have exterior doors using our resin that gets hours of direct sunlight everyday with no issues. Lower quality products may be more affected by heat!
