Back in another life I was a Hardwood Lumber Inspector for National Hardwood Lumber Association with my area of work was Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, and Eastern Missouri. Knowing how to tell the different American Hardwoods apart was a requirement. When I graduated from the grading school in Memphis my father-in-law who was also in the lumber business gave me a box of small strips of all of the hardwoods with on the back a description and what it was used for. I memorized every one of these, and it paid off when I was challenged by another grader, or mill worker. There was a bar in Indiana that the bar itself had all of the hardwoods covering the bar. This was a lumberjack bar, and I made some money betting when challenged. Just a thought if you ever wanted to try something different.

I love your videos, they give me an idea of how to do what I don't know how to do and put it into practice in my workshop, I hope one day to do work as perfect as yours, and visit you to see how you do it live. Incredibly tasteful and elegant bed. If you want a really spectacular wood for your projects, look for the Mexican Ziricote wood, it is currently one of the most expensive in the world as well as the most beautiful and exotic, but it will be well worth a piece of yours with this wood, which is spectacular.

Really nice bed. I like my slaps 2" max between and I love them to be 5 quarter sawn. I don't know if those are, but def look thicker than 3/4" This type of bed can support latex mattress (which is 200lbs) + 2 large adults,
You do beautiful work, and I watch your videos all the time, but it makes me cringe when I see you struggling with carrying some of the large panels. There are carrying straps called Forearm Forklift Straps that would make your job so much easier. I did not believe they would work until I got some, but they really do work.

Honestly i'm as a US born and bred, I can't stand phillips screws - I gave the robertson a try a few years ago and absolutely loved, never went back to Phillips. Honestly boggles my mind to think about how Phillips even became the standard here, when the simple square is just so much better.

Wonderfull work you guys doing . Still wondering about the translation of names of the wood . Ebony is mostly solid black with some fine dark brown lines (depends the density) . Albino Ebony is a contrast between Yellow and black veins . Could this be a Gaboon Ebony family of the Ebony . You're pieces are going towards a Zebrano wood color . Could you explain it a bit more . Curieus to learn

You guys are very unusual- you have the skills that would allow a thing to succeed on its own merits; however, you also have a habit of the grandiose- talking about money constantly and misstating the rarity of a thing or- in this case- incorrectly describing the species as ebony. Odd, craftsmen need not channel PT Barnum. Let the work speak for itself- it’s more honest and you will sleep better at night.
@patrickdean4853
Жыл бұрын
I hope the customer realizes this. GL Veneer is a first rate organization- I would very much hesitate before accusing them of misrepresenting the nature of the wood you purchased. Did they tell you it was, in fact, not ebony?
BROWN EBONY?😳😳😳😳
Eeeh the bed hardware is gonna be squeaky in a few weeks
My wife has more of a crush on your dad than she does Joe
Wow that's just such a waste of money.... you can go to Raymour or Ashley and get a 100x better looking bed for a grand or two.
Misleading to call this ebony at all. This is most likely Sebastiania brasiliensis, from Brazil. True ebonies should be from the Diospyros genus, and are much more beautiful than this, also much rarer, with better qualities. While this wood is nice to look at, it's not even in the same league of, say, black and white ebony or macassar ebony.
