The Great Roberto Duran! He was a rare breed! Highest boxing IQ that I have ever seen. Good video!

I watched Duran in an interview in Spanish he stated at first he wanted to wrestle so he would wrestle a lot and he stated he had many street fights and he would fight for money as the adults would bet money on fights so I’m sure many of those techniques were learned there

I wouldn't doubt it. One of the things that I try and stress to my son when he's training is: at the end of the day, it's a fight - with limited weapons, but a fight, nonetheless.

Spot on, this was exactly what I remember him saying too. He also said that street fights were his class-rooms and the other hungry kids of Panama were his toughest opponents.

I'm not sure, but also there was another interview with Duran where he said that inside fighting is not something you can be taught by anybody but only yourself during the fights or sparring sessions. Once you are more experienced you know what sequence of punches mixed with huge variety of defense moves and counterpunches should be applied in particular situation. As Bruce Lee once said: pain is the best teacher, but nobody wants to be its student. You go with the flow. As you get more experience you know what works well for you and what to avoid.

Duran is one of the GOATs... Man could do it all

Watch Duran vs. Moore fight or Duran vs. Palomino to recall only these two among tens available on KZread. Duran shown his inside fighting ability in all of his fights but I recommend especially the two mentioned above + my fav. fight ever, Duran vs. Barkley. Roberto Duran was playing a sort of extreme chess game each time he stepped into the ring. He was most of the time approximately two steps ahead of his opponents, using a lot of feints and upper body movements, beautiful torque and compact combos. He seems to read his opponents minds like they are open books or something. For me personally, the no. 1 boxer ever p4p.

No one does infighting anymore like that. There hasn’t been many boxers who has created a strategy around infighting. That’s something you won’t see in todays modern boxers.

This is awesome to see! I’m an MMA Coach. In MMA we fight for under-hooks. When Boxers clinch they usually go over the arms to shut down punches.

There's pros and cons to both in boxing. Double overhooks, especially when you can really lock in, make it easy to move and control your opponent while at the same time having the freedom to let go and strike whenever you want. The pro to underhooks is shown in this video. Having control on the outside seems to make the most sense to me in general. Swimming for underhooks seems counterproductive for boxing unless you're the smaller fighter and want to sit in the pocket. How does your MMA gym teach it? Any drills you can share?

What he also used was called the killing shift aka the fitsimmions shift to close the distance between range and always punched with his hips movements it's like eternal violent dancing also lots of fainting

Brilliant. Roberto Duran utilised old wrestling techniques to get inside and bash up his opponents. He mastered the arm bar before MMA existed and emulated the great Henry Armstrong in using his opponent's own momentum against them. His destruction of Davey Moore was like a street mugging and was such a vicious beating, only Moore's bravery prolonged the inevitable.... Great instruction as per usual from the Master Coach...

I’m hoping for a video about when to throw an Overhand Right. In what situations is it preferable to throw an Overhand Right instead of a Right Hand or Right Hook?

I love it Coach. It would be nice to see some of your breakdowns of Roberto Duran. In wing chun the block down is a low garn when the hand goes up to block the hook that is a tan (palm up). We are told to use the high block with the palm down as it is stronger structurally and disengages the bicep muscle to prevent collapse. The high hand with the palm down is a bue. I wonder if you would explain the shoulders and hips when doing these blocks and setups. As you have said previously the pulling side and the engagement of the hips as it relates to the heel toe stance you talk about for punching or pining when in close like that. Cheers

Can you talk about how Hearns set up his shots to the liver? I've seen footage of him actually hooking to it twice in a row, (and hard shots each time too), and then he popped right back out of range and back on guard before any possible counter by his opponent. 😮

A friend of mine was the last British boxer to fight Roberto Duran his name is David radford he pissed blood for two weeks after David said he as never been hit as hard or as fast in is entire life duran was 46yrs old at the time now duran and David are very good friends it’s on KZread

you know that one Argentinian guy who almost basically never got hit or something idk 😐👀 u know?

I read somewhere that he taught himself how to fight on the inside because he wasn’t a jabber. He would rather fight on the inside than jab his opponent to death

Roberto Duran style has lots of similar techniques like wing Chun Kung Fu...

Duran got slaughtered by Tommy Hearns and could not get past Hagler, But he was a great fighter overall.
