Great Review! I'm now considering the purchase of Initial Slice but still weighing my decision based on whether or not Big Fish Audio's "Momentum" VST plug in (which is a free download from their site) provides similar functionality. Right now other than Initial Audio's own sound packs for Slice, I'm not seeing anything that's 100% prompting me to pull the trigger. Will continue to do my research but as always, love what Initial Audio puts out. I already have Heat Up 3 so I definitely know how they get down.

I mean yea it’s not the first sample ever made but I feel like what your paying for is a comprehensive dope sampler but with the added bonus of all of initial audios impeccable taste in the sound design and sample department.they even have expansion packs u can get with more loops and they also have a built in drum sample and bad sequencer that’s really easy to use that comes with drum and bass presets

Ok......I was waiting for a good review on Slice, before the updates on today. You just used it as a sample player and triggering the samples with one key. That's a work around. I hope they add the feature to trigger drums via midi, instead of just that one note. They did add the export feature, and you didn't review yours with that feature, but..you stayed positive on how to use it until the other updates come and the beat was fire. So, I'm pulling the trigger and buying it now. Thanks homie.

How do you edit cutoff points so samples wont overlap?

How do you access the DRUM 1 and DRUM 2 keyswitches. They are below the range of the keyboard and I have an 88 key. I can't get to them. It's weird. Slice's keys don't correspond to the keyboard's C0 - C9. There's no way to get to the lower DRUM keys. Even after you change the start key to correspond with the keyboard it doesn't. GOt any suggestions?

I was thinking about getting it. It's interesting as fuck! But I realize that Ableton already makes this super easy. With that being said... this is more like a stand alone VST-slash-DAW that mimicked the work flow of an MPC. I like the fact you can make an entire track inside of it WHILE inside your DAW. That's dope

@@ArsineyMusic Yes, I am maybe getting the Heat Up 3 thing, but need to try it out. in the middle of a scoring gig with lot's of moving parts in music and sound mix. The producer wants some Drake, Eminem, Lil Baby & Lil Durk - Man of my Word type stuff. They of course have no budget to license, So, doing some Bgd instrumental that will suffice. Not sure which expansion, would work, but will welcome any thoughts you might have. Producer is in her 40's so that's her vibe. Later

I don’t really use loops but for the few instances I do, I want to decide what my go-to sampler should be. Should I go with Initial Slice, or Seratto Sample or Big Fish Momentum in your opinion. (I’d just use it to manipulate and flip the melody samples/loops)

Honestly I’m really liking initial slice right now,aerator is dope too but I think I like initial slice a bit more mainly because of the integration with initial audios sound department and there presets and loops and expansions on top of the functionality of the vst itself and the sequencer.but it’s really no “better one” it’s all a matter of preference u gotta try it out to see what u enjoy more cause they all basically do the same shit

Momentum and Serato Sampler are just audio manipulators. They don't allow you to make and sequence beats like Slice. I would be comparing this more to Maschine because it's like a mini-DAW to help you get inspiration to start beats then you can add you own synths, keys and bass like in this video.

I was thinking about that it exports all the drums as one the only way I can think of is if u do it the way I show in the video cause if u try to export it as wavs it’s gonna export it all as one audio file.in the video I show u how to do it as a midi using your midi controllers do that way u can just duplicate the tracks and mute the instruments don’t want to play

Added the library to the browser, and got a copy on the system drive. What for ? It is not effective.

Has anyone experienced samples not being triggered all the time? Every time I hit a key on my keyboard repeatedly, the sample won't play.

@@SiriusBlack-wh6uh so it’s a sampler it can chop anything you put into it,what makes it dope is it comes with its own samples but u can add ya own,but also it has a built in drum sequencer and bass sequencer and they also sell expansion packs for different types of samples everything from trap to lo fi.so yea u can chop any type of sample u want but u can also do SOOOOO much more

I just tried to make a whole beat with it in standalone. The drum and bass sequencer are not really my cup of tea. I like it as a sample editor/manipulator/slicer though. It will still come in handy.

I never made a full beat with it I usually make my drum pattern (or re arrange the drum patterns they already have installed and then drag and drop the stems then I’ll make a melody or chords with another vst and then I’ll go back to slice for the loops the melody samples they have inside and tune it to the key that I’m working in and play around with the chopped samples to add more flavor to the beat

Like your style of do and tell and your tutorial is very informative (picked up a few tips) even though you mostly use Initial Slice as a glorified rompler doing all the sequencing in Logic. I just bought it on its 50% off promo. I can’t deny I was (and still am) HUGELY disappointed at first use, such a basic sampler (easily surpassed by your own DAW’s native sampler) with a crude slice function and such a simplistic sequencer (even worse requiring you to pencil in notes). Undo function is severely lacking (e.g. sequencer) and it is being suggested that it makes copies of all samples you drag in filling up your hd. Slices, beats, bass have no multiple outs; and there is no midi control over instruments in the drum kit and no midi control over the bass. The preset beats are virtually all in the trap genre and bizarrely enough no loop slicing is going on in any of the presets, just a nice long trappy loop played in a linear fashion. Obviously I should have tried the demo version (when will I learn) and not buy this train wreck of a thing on impulse, annoyingly enough Initial Audio doesn’t allow license transfers so it really is $50 down the drain. In another YT review/tutorial people have said it best: "I only bought it for its loops and drum kits" and "It's a $10 beatmaking plugin right now".

The “bounce to Wav” function its only saving grace "This will bounce the whole playlist as audio to a folder called "Initial Slice Playlist Export". Separate stems are also created, so these can be mixed and edited further in your DAW."

The only reason to get Slice is for the loops and drumkits. It's a poor man's Maschine. You're probably gonna have to use your audio interface to internally record the loops and one-shots.

If the individual is having a good user experience and they are making dope beats then it’s a good vst for them.I don’t believe in “poor mans machines” or ack vsts,it’s just what works for u vs everyone else,whatever inspires ya next hit is a win 💪🏽

@@ArsineyMusic I respect your statement but I'm just using Loopcloud when it comes to sampling loops bro. They now have a VST you can load into your DAW to do all the slicing, tempo and key changing. I don't think Initial is up there with the big dogs (Akai, NI Maschine, and Loopcloud) in the sample slicing/looping game yet. Heatup3 and Sektor are their strengths.

Does this work standalone or must it be used inside a Daw?

Im not the only one who has noticed a sync issue in v. 1.1.6. Its a very annonying flaw and i hope they will fix it asap. The plugin is unusable at the moment .
