Not one of the most played. It was the most played. Over 3 million radio plays. Amazing song. Rip, Toby.

The story I've heard on how the song came to be, is that he was in a bar with a friend, and they were hitting on 2 women at the bar, when two strangers wearing cowboy hats walked in and left with the Girls, Toby's friend looked at him and said "Dang, we shoulda been cowboys" and the light bulb lit off. He wrote the idea down on a napkin, immediately went and wrote the wrest of the lyrics, and the rest was history!

That’s true his dad JR workeded for my wife’s grandparents at Cantwell caseing crews in the oilfields and Toby tried the business and didn’t like it. They were like family for years and I get this from family pictures and stories. RIP Toby🌹

Toby was such a huge part of my life from the 90s and still today. I still don't want to believe he's gone. He was a great man and it's true. Great reaction and God Bless 🙏

OMG I just listened to some more or your comments.. yes .. He's like Rico Suave... lmao.. back in the day. and he did become more confident.. his patriotic songs hit me so much in the heart, but he had the confidence to do his thing as a songwriter. I love country music but some of our best didn't write their music.. Toby did, Alan Jackson did.. of course DOLLY did. I could go on and on with great country.

I would also recommend you shouldn't kiss me like this by Tony Keith since y'all are talking about him being smooth with a side of humor 🤣
