As a Marine Veteran, I saw him in Afghanistan with the USO. I saw him 5 times here back at home. His music got so many of us through tough days and times. Toby was a true Patriot and great American. Rest In Peace Toby Keith, you'll never be forgotten by the men and women of the armed forces that you gave so much to.

RIP Toby Keith. Thank you to Joanna for bribing this tribute to a country music legend who passed away too young. I really appreciate you reacting to this song. I always liked this one a lot. Even in the German newspaper was an article about his passing and that’s extraordinary because country music isn’t popular in Germany at all. And it wasn’t even a small article. So his passing was noticed across the pond too.

They served beer in red solo cups in honor of Toby at the rivalry basketball game against Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State 2 days ago. Toby was a huge Sooner fan and was at nearly all of the games of nearly every sport. The Oklahoma Sooners won that game btw.

Here's two from him definitely worth checking out: • Don't Let the Old Man In (Performed at the 2023 People's Choice Awards) • Crying for Me (Wayman's Song) "Don't Let the Old Man In" is a song he wrote anx recorded years ago after being inspired by Clint Eastwood. At Clint's birthday gathering, Clint told him he was about to shoot a movie (Cry Macho). Toby asked how he managed to keep going like he does, and Clint replied "Don't let the old man in".. It stuck in Toby's mind, and he went home and wrote and recorded the song and sent it to Clint and thanked him for inspiring the song. Clint told him in that movie, he was referred to as "the old man" a lot, and he wanted to use the song. Toby let him put it in his movie at no charge. They put it in the closing credits of the movie. "Crying for Me" is about Wayman Tisdale. One of the best basketball players for Oklahoma Sooners, and also played in the NBA for over a decade, and was a musician and friend of Toby's.

Its my understanding that when Toby was a kid in Oklahoma his mom would send him to his grandmother's in Arkansas for the summer. His grandmother owned a bar and she would have him box up empties, bus tables and when he got bigger she would sometimes let him sit in with the band. So, basically, he grew up in a bar. That's the way I heard it.

Toby played at several bases overseas, one day they were playing at a base in Afghanistan flying to another one on the other side of the country and he said the helicopter was flying sideways and he asked why and they told him they were taking small arms fire. They asked him not to make it public so artist won’t be scared to come there. Good dude

Toby was just a down-to-earth guy who embraced tradition. Wrote his own songs, formed his own production company (Show Dog) who once partnered with another company signing a young girl named Taylor Swift. He visited the Children’s Hospital frequently and had a charity that provided the families lodging and meals free, much like Ronald MacDonald House. There was an old, rundown building not too far up the road that was a service station first established in 1925 and legendary Western musicians Bob Wills, Leon McAuliffe and Merle Lindsay once played there. It was about to be torn down so he bought it and fixed it up where folks can come and eat, plus bands play. TK and his band came in twice last fall just to see if he could get back into entertaining; one night they did 4 hours! There was a lot of good to the man besides the well-known things like the USO tours, etc. We Okies will miss him!

I feel Toby Keith was at times underappreciated for his musical talent. He did a lot of fun songs and a lot of patriotic songs where the lyrics and story of the song captured the attention, but underneath that was an incredible musician and like you saw in this song he had a large vocal toolbox to pull from. He was also an incredible wordsmith. Anybody can write a song, but very few can write a hit song, Toby was one of the best. I really hope the next song is "Don't Let The Old Man In" in my opinion it is comparable to Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt." I got the same feeling the first time I heard it a few days ago after he passed.

Thank you Joanna. Since he passed I've been going back listening to his music again. I don't think Toby ever did a song I didn't like. My favorite was Courtesy of the Red White and Blue. But Yesterday I heard one that I had not heard him do before. It was Mockingbird, an old song I remember from way back that was then done by James Taylor and Carly Simon. Toby did this with his then teenage daughter Krystal. Really great rendition! Love this reaction,

Fun fact: The bar in this video in real life is The Cowboy Palace which is not located anywhere near the South but right here in the San Fernando Valley. In Chatsworth Ca to be exact. There are still some ranches and horse owners there there in Chatsworth and its not uncommon to see a few folks out riding horses on any given day. There is also a hitching post for horses in front of the bar. Unfortunately it is the last Country Western bar in the Valley. There used to be several. I actually grew near the old Palamino Bar and Grill in North Hollywood which was where Clint Eastwood shot the scenes for Every Which Way But Loose. I once saw Jerry Lee play there. When Hollywood stopped making 'Oaters' in the early 80's, and also due to demographic, the Palamino lost its customer base of many movie cowboys. It has been a latin American night club for decades now. I only got to see Toby Kieth once when he was a headliner at the Stagecoach Festival about 16 years ago. He put on a really good show. He had already had a string of hits by then and it being a highly patriotic crowd and him being a true patriot, he was well recieved and rightfully so. Another kind of funny fact is that although Toby Kieth is probabably best known for his song 'I Should Have Been A Cowboy' if ever happen see his photo on the cover of his first album you wouldn't equate him with a Cowboy. Not with him with that perm in his hair and him grinnung in that soft focus glossy photo. To the contrary, in that photo he looks like one of those 8x10 photos that is already in the picture frame when you buy it than what anyone might picture in their mind to be a cowboy. Fortunately he was able to rise above the shame of it become a music legend lol. In all seriousness Toby Kieth was a great Country Music artist and a truly Patriotic American. He will be missed by millions of his fans for many years to come and I count myself as one. I was saddened and stunned to hear of his passing. The last I heard of his illness was that he was in recovery and he seemed to be a positive about getting his health back. I guess God had other plans. It does looks like, at least to me, that that old Okie from Muskogee, Mr Merle Haggard, just welcomed himself a fellow Okie on high up there in Heaven to sing and play with him together in that Ever After Country Music Pickin Band. Rest in Peace big Hoss, you earned Cowboy.

Y'all should do "God Love Her" by Toby Keith and also, he has a duet with Sting called "I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying" that is amazing. Just make sure you listen to the correct one because there are other versions of them singing it alone or with someone else. There's a live version but the sound is not too good. I don't know if this is allowed but here's a link to one that would be good to listen to. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZI6np9yHkrOpaLQ.html

I had an uncle that was a Marine Keith, he never needed an excuse to make a toast to something. It seems neither do you and Dustin. Since you two are related by last names I heard it should be okay to have him toast with a leatherneck. He does have a fast bike. I read the history of Iwo Jima and discovered that the Washington Monument is 7" taller than Mount Suribachi's 554 feet. I'd like to make a toast to the Marines for planting Old Glory on it! I'll look into sending you a bottle of Bourbon for the toast. I may have to go back to my old Booze shipping company to do it. The Amelas One @@BourbonCountryReacts

Maybe you would prefer a channel where folks just grin, drool, and bob their heads. Go away. Go to LA and learn to swim. - Keith
