Being 64 , mind - muscle connection is the most important thing. It took me many years in some areas to achieve that. If the weight is too heavy your mind is only focused on doing the rep and you lose that connection.

Been lifting for 25 years and have had pain on and off from lifting. This tempo makes me use more manageable weights and maintains a stricter form. Lifting is almost completely pain free like this.

My letter to Jonni. My history: I've loved lifting since I was 13. I did a lot of pullus, dips, pushups, and some stuff on pullup bars (we have a ubiquitous amount of them in Ukraine). But when I was 19 I hurt my shoulder really bad in the gym. After that, it went down horribly. I've had more injuries and stopped lifting for years. At 23 I've had almost no cartilage at both of my shoulders. I remember the doctor who said that I would be able to lift weights with my shoulders ever again, which was extremely discouraging at that time. However, I didn't give up hope for lifting and one of my dreams was to lift weights. At the age of 29 my friend taught me how to do a proper pullup after which, to my amazement, I had no pain. This gave me a lot of hope. Fast forward to pandemic, I discovered your channel and I immediately tried picking on shoulder workouts. I started experimenting and had a lot of setbacks with shoulder pain. I started overhead pressing 5 pound dumbbells and doing lateral raises with 3 pounds. I religiously watched your videos and tried to fix my technique as much as possible. Now I can overhead press 27 pounds in each hand and still keep improving thanks to your ques. I consider Jonni Shreve as one of the most impactful people in my life. I thank you Jonni for the knowledge that you've shared and, consequently, for how you have influenced me personally. Now I'm a fairly fit individual who can enjoy fitness thanks to Jonni especially. I wanted to get this out of my chest for a long time. And now when I'm fairly enjoying my life it seems the most fitting. I wish I could express my gratitude in another way, but this is what I've come up with. Big love, you are very wise and thoughtful. I wish you the best💗💗💗

I've experimented with different tempo's and here's what I've found works for me. Mind you this cadence will humble you if you're an ego lifter. Typically goes like this: 2 sec concentric. 1 sec pause, 4 second eccentric, 1 sec pause. So as you see each rep takes about 8 seconds. So even if you only do 6 reps, time under tension is 48 seconds total. This slow cadence is deliberate. It's so you actually have to control the weight and not just throw weights around like I see most people doing. You simply can't cheat. I've found this tempo works amazingly well, for me, to build muscle. I've put on a bunch of noticeable gains in a relatively short period of time using this method. Give yourself adequate time to heal and grow.

@@user-nf7ep1xt1q you're welcome. Hope it works for you. I should mention I do this tempo at a really high intensity. I go every third day, the split is day 1 chest/back. Day 2 arms and shoulders. Day 3 legs. Only 6-8 working sets. However, I 1 warmup set per movement, and then a potentiation set (about 15 reps) at about 65-70% of the weight of my 1 working set.

The concentric isn't necessary for building muscle? Think you meant to convey that differently. Heads are probably spinning.:)

I was wondering brother, can you take sarms and be a diabetic or pre-diabetic my friend seen my results and I guess I'm motivated him. He's been sick just like me, but he became a pre-diabetic a couple of months ago and now he's willing to try since his levels are down. Please just asking for a friend.
