Yeah braces can cause gum recession, especially if you've had them on for a long time

Having black triangles does not automatically mean the person doesn't take care of their teeth. It can also be from brushing too hard or scrubbing up and down vs circular motion.

@@why1513 not unless you have inflammation, pain or you feel like your teeth are loose. There is a genetic component to gum disease too though.

@@kel_seyy talk to your dentist, they can show you how. or if you can’t go to a dentist, watch a tutorial online. brushing is very important for oral health, but so it flossing and using mouthwash. for me, i didn’t brush or floss consistently for years and ended up having cavities between most of my teeth. typically cavities form between teeth or on top of molars, and the only way to avoid it is by flossing once daily. you can also develop horrible diseases in your mouth like thrush (yeast infection on your tongue), which are very painful and cause bad breath. so yeah, anybody who doesn’t floss, please start!!

I heard it's also a normal for a gap to be there for a bit. And if your two front teeth are uneven, as in one seeming longer than the other, that is also normal, retainers fix the uneven teeth👍

The fact that you just gave me more info than my dentist ever has got me lookin for a new one lmao

The gaps don'tnecessarily mean receding gums. They are quite common with orthodontic treatment where papilla is not properly formed between crooked teeth, and when they get straightened it doesn't fill it as it should.

Going through this right now. Had no triangles prior to Invisalign and the moment my crowed top from teeth were seperate her comes the triangle and that was the explanation my orthodontist gave.

Gum resorption is also irreversible. It's permanent damage, and will eventually lead to tooth loss

Oil pulling worked for me

I’m currently doing Invisalign and when the crowding started to disappear the triangles showed up. The treatment was done and he asked me if I had refinements and I told him I didn’t like the gaps. We started more trays and he “sawed” in between my two top and bottom teeth to help with the gap.

I have the same issue but only at the top front teeth and my orthodontist did IPR and I have 13 more trays to see if they can be brought closer. But I’m doubting that.

As someone who brushes and flosses everyday I can confirm

When I was younger I had a proper gap between my front teeth (that I actually really liked), but then I had a bunch of stuff done because my mouth is really small and my front teeth got pushed together to create room, so now I have a big triangle and I very much so dislike it.

The “PHAHHHHH” scared the living quack out of me-

Most tribal peoples tend to have gaps between their teeth but they have really healthy teeth and perfectly developed jaw lines due to lack of processed food. I think a bit of a gap is fine and possibly somehow could be even advantageous as long as the teeth are straight

I had to have a skin graft surgery (in my mouth!) when I was 11 years old because I had horrible gum resorption. It wasn't due to me not brushing or flossing either, I've never had a cavity and im 32! It just was a receding gum line on the bottom. Weird.

It can be because of continuous forces towards that area or an irritation. Plaque is not the only reason. Maybe you were having some paradontal habits like sucking the front part of your gums.

Same, I had to get that surgery too, although I still have the black triangle, they only fixed the lower part of my gums. I think it's because I used to brush my teeth too long in that spot.

I used to have one of those in the front, I'm not sure if it went away because I started flossing everyday or because one of my teeth is at a different angle now then it used to be (I faceplanted and it's pushed in a little, it doesn't hurt so I'm pretty sure it's not damaged or anything)

I’m still yet to understand how people don’t know these kinda things, it’s quite a visible gap

Whats so funny is the fact when you go to the dentist after you have had your checkup or whatever they give you sweets and stickers after 😂

Salt on wound, gums don't come back. You see them recede you can't do anything except surgery or flossing to prevent it from continuing to recede.

I actually feel relieved cause i started getting black stuff on the bottom of my teeth. I brush more regularly and floss now, and the black gunk is almost gone!
