Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Brakes identify
Looking at different VW brakes from Mk1 golf brakes, mk2 brakes, mk3 brakes and vw corrado brakes .
Identifying different brake discs sizes
239mm brake discs
256mm brake discs
280mm / 288mm / g60 brake discs
Different volkswagen hubs. From Mk1 golf to mk2 mk3 and corrado
Difference between a Mk1 Golf GTI and a Mk1 Golf GTI hubs
All Mk1/2/3 and corrado g60/16v are 4x100
Vr6 is 5x100 wheel/ hub / brake disc figment
Brake caliper are identified
The different between 239, 256 and 280 / G60
Showing with measurements the difference between the brake calipers and the brake carriers between the different sizes 256 vs G60/280
Note not all G60 brake carriers have “fangs” it just happen that the set I had did.
G60 and VR6 brakes are the same diameter (but difference figment = 4x100 vs 5x100 ) until mk3 VR6 which got 288mm.
I’m not sure if there was a difference in sizes depending on the year and country (Europe vs Usa ) as it’s often discussed are vr6 brakes 280 or 288 ( it just depends on country and year/ model of car )

Comprehensive parts bin! I don't know if there's 2 versions of the 'G60' 54mm caliper, I know there's a thin and fat pad, sure I needed the thin pad for the mk1 using a mk3 bits!! 👍👍

Something worth adding - 256mm brakes are possible on a mk1, using Scirocco 16v caliper carriers. Those are the only carrier that holds a Lucas 54 caliper while fitting a mk1. You'll also want a 22mm master cylinder, and a late cabriolet booster, or a modified mk3 booster. Cheers!

I focused on just golf /corrado and mostly mk2 without using any odd brackets or conversion plates . Your dead right using the scirocco calipers ( is it Mk1 or2 ) on the Mk1 golf is a great upgrade but they are like hens teeth.. I’m running 280mm on a Mk1 with standard Mk1 gti calipers but have extension plates to push them out. The brakes are fantastic but there is a lot of disc that never gets used. And yes a 22 or even a 24 mm master cylinder is a good upgrade and big servo too . I’ll have to make another video with your additional info 👍

@@stevenharpervw It's nice that the upgrade uses VW parts, an no adapters, but yes the carriers aren't easy to find. It's the Scirocco mk2 16v (~1987) that you need to look for. I was able to find a set for my mk1 caddy tdi just last week. Search for the carrier and caliper combo part numbers, centric 141.33035 and 141.33036. Sometimes the remanufactured calipers come with a standard golf/Jetta A3 carrier, but I got lucky !

If you add brake master cylinder to this upgrade then it makes the difference 😉

Hi there, i have a early 1.8 carburetor jetta mk3 with Solid brake disc. I found a jetta in the scrap yard with ventilated disc so i bought the calipers with carriers but they dont line up with my current stub axle holes. The hanger holes are wider apart than my present calipers. . So i then bought the stub axles (hub carrier) so i can bolt the calipers to make this set up work. Do u perhaps know if this will work or are the wheel bearings going to be a issue as well? Regards Andrew

I’m not 100 % sure what you ended up buying . The mk1 hub that holds on the carrier, the holes are 80mm apart . The Mk2 hub has the holes 100mm apart so maybe you have a mk1 and your fitting Mk2 hubs and brakes to it ? You might need the drive shafts too

Are there different size rear disks? What size matches the 280s for the front?

  • @stevenharpervw

    @stevenharpervw

    Жыл бұрын

No all rears are the same size regardless of fronts. Reason for it , when you brake your Center of gravity is shifted forward and your loading up the front wheels . Basically your rear wheels are going up in the air and your front wheels are getting planted into the ground so there is no point upgrading the rears
