'Going to start by taking everything apart'. **A wild angle grinder appears**
I love that you said “take a gander” that’s such a cockney term! Brilliant!
Memphis, take a look at the left hand brake Cable. It is rubbing against the Wheel!! (24.29 in video) The right side seems to be ok.

You’re A Lifesaver ❤️
me who likes Volkswagens, especially golfs: *happiness noises*
Thanks for that vidéo that will help me in the restauration of the Golf 2 of my grandma 😁
this is the most productive car channel on vw, everything is transparent and easy to understand, great camera angles well done
Excited to see more of the Golf!!
My project is quite old & rusty - when it comes to fasteners. I soaked those 4 nuts holding the rear beam pivots, in pbblaster several times - over several weeks- and wire brushed the threads, nervous I would shear a stud off. After a few weeks of multiple soaking of pbblaster, those nuts came off without an impact, just broke loose with a ratchet by hand. I'm so glad for quality videos like this Memphis.
Good idea to uprade to an axle with an anti roll bar. Personally I would have gone a bit further by installing poly bushes.
You need to push up the spring-loaded wedge of the automatic brake adjuster before taking off the brake drum. You can easily reach the wedge with a screwdriver through a hole for the wheel bolt in two o´clock position. After this, you can take off the drum with one hand.
That refurbished axle looks great.
So satisfying watching all those fresh parts go in
Definitely need to do a rear disc brake conversion when swapping in that 2.0 you talked about, gonna need all that stopping power :)
Greetings from Brazil!!! Great job, this MK1 looks beautiful, too bad we don't have this car in Brazil. Here we only have it from the MK3 and here the Golf is a very appreciated car!
Brilliant video as always mate. Good work
Hello and hope this msg finds you well and safe. Iove the work you've been doing to your rabbit plus that garage you and your dad built, it's just awesome. I live in New York Long Island and if your ever in the neighborhood let me know would love to chat about your car. If you were close I would lend you some tools lol. It's too bad you are so far, anyway keep up the great work, good luck with everything and take care.
I'm in love with that little car
Awsome job. i did the exact same upgrade and restoration on my mk1 only did electrostatick black paint on the beam and red on the anti roll bar.
Woah, 86k subscribers and rising well done and thoroughly deserved Memphis this is a great channel 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧😊😊
Very well done! Watching from Pennsylvania USA. I own a 2010 GTI with 6 speed manual and a 2008 Jetta Wolfsburg 2.0T with the DSG.

Hello Carl.. How are you
VW golf Mk 1,my first car. A good car and reliable.
Very nice video, too bad we can't do disc brake conversions congrats and have fun with the car
Great video. Props from Westchester NY. I respect the time you take to make these videos. I have a buddy of mine I’m Canada who makes Volkswagen videos too. I’m definitely going to upload one soon. Take care and cheers
In the BIN... lol... Nice work Memphis!
Great job guys.....Explaining what your doing is essential to follow along... cool
Great job,well done!
Another excellent video. Very satisfying to watch!
Great work, keep it coming!
YES!! an excuse not to go to bed! Great video - fascinating to see your impressive skills in action. :-)
I did this in early 2023.. It is tedious for sure.. I even samdblasted big parts in the garden..😭.. but eventually I went for powdercoating everything. I wanted to epoxy prime,.and 2K paint them, but powdercoating is a shortcut and relief after so much preparation. You have a very nice mk1 (I am not sure if you still have it, but if yes, pls keep it forever 😉). Cheers!
COMPLETE Rear Axle Restoration in just 25 minutes - how hard it can be
Brought back a lot of memories when I rebuilt the rear end on my Mk1 Jetta Gli Coupe. I would have like to have seen you push in the new rear main bushing onto its hanger bracket - that was a pain in the butt for me! Great job overall! BTW - go over to Imgur and search for "my 1984 Jetta GLi coupe" for some pics I took of my car. Cheers from Canada!
Great work as always. Many thanks for sharing
Hello Memphis, just so you know, gti's come with rear anti roll bars from the factory ! Great video keep up 😉
perfect timing, just starting mine this weekend
You’re a great young man if only there were more like you!😊
Watching you work is both inspiring and relaxing: one of life’s little joys. You did such a great job with the rear axle. I’m always stunned by your knowledge and ability. The commentary is pretty awesome too 👍
You done a terrific job on that sub frame nice posting :-)
Great channel, good editing and relaxing to watch
Really nice work, waiting for more of your vídeos.
Great work, looking forward to the engine swop 👍
Great video again, admire your attention to detail.
Weer een top video Memphis, ik leer veel van je: bij mijn 83iger GTi moet ik dit ook eens gaan doen, dankzij jouw video vertrouw ik erop dat ik dat komende winter mooi eens kan gaan aanpakken. Keep up your good work!
That was a really satisfying video to watch! Great work!
We really need to start a GoFundMe to buy Memphis some 2x4's so he can brace up his work table.
Amazing video once again mate!! Keep up the good work, really looking forward to the exhaust on the e28!
it looks like the brake line is touching the innerside of your rim (last shot) nice work! looks as new from the factory
Groeten Herman
If I may give you a tip. The silver caps are not impact resistant and can split or even break into pieces. Best that you take blow resistant caps, these are usually black and much stronger for these jobs. I also work a lot on cars and motorcycles. Speak of experience. Greetings from Antwerp
nice work and is awesome to have friends to help wish i had friends like y'all great job cant wait for more be safe buddy
Cool! A new Video from Memphis! Let’s see what he did on the golf:)
Great video again! I had done several same things to my project mk2 Polo, its more fun to put everything back together with fresh paint on parts and finally see results how old car slowly turn back to new 🤟 Greetings from Finland!
Very nicely done
Ooh man, wat een verschil! Heerlijk om te kijken👌
Good work....you rock man!
Great attention to detail Can’t wait to see the 2.0 litre engine going in
Looks so good!!
You did a really good job! Congrats! the Golf looks amazing and it's super nice! greetings from Spain my friend :)
Very nice video. I want to do the same in my polo 86c and you give a lot of motivation. Keep the great work. Greetings from Greece
Another quality job.
Love this content Memphis 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
Notification squad! Always happy to see your upload. Just the very beginning shows how much your video production skills have improved
Thanks for your vids. That table looks like it needs a bit of TLC :)
I think is time to restore that workbenck too, great video man
Looks great I love the results, I typed a huge comment but youtube deleted it. Anyways you may want to consider ball joint extenders to retain control arm geometry and and big rear bar depending on how tail happy you want your Mk1 to be. I usually run my Mk1 without a front bar.
Great JOB
Great job👍
beau travail, et surtout belle caisse
Very nice, great work.
Your followers from Saudi Arabia, great content
Memphis, if you want to swap to a 2.0l engine maybe you need to think also about a upgrade of the rear drum brakes to disc brakes. :-)
it looks great good work
sick transformation🔥
Nice video man!!!👌👌
Great video
Very nice video and a really good looking result. All that was missing was a test drive or at least your opinion on the new rear axle after a driving it for a bit. I gues you’ll probably do that in one of the next golf videos. Im very excited for the engine swap!
Looks great 👍
Greetings from the US Missouri thumbs up number 81
Nice job there.

Yeah, it's depends from country to country, he(memphis) lives in Belgium and here we pretty much can't do anything to our cars. But there is a light, they are redoing the oldtimer law's
Mooi gemaakt top job geweldig 🧐👏✊
Nice! Why no upgrade to rear disks? It would improve brake response a great deal.
Just watched the video great restoration on rear axle , is worth doing a stonechip paint protection to axle .
This looks sick!
Loved it..!
Nice to watch hope the fix was good as you did not take a spin to test it
Wow, how awesome, the job👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
