Corrections since I'm getting too many comments to respond to: - "Cherry barb" was the common name we used on the trip, but apparently the true common name is spotted rasbora. Should've just said Boraras maculatus, this is why common names suck - The "tetras" are just harlequin rasboras. I mispoke. The info about them is true though

Was just about to mention that, glad you enjoyed the trip. Hope you come back soon, you didn't get to the North West side of the peninsular like Kelantan

Another correction, at 9:85 is not a betta pugnax, it's a betta imbellis, pugnax don't have red on their pelvic fins

Malaysia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea are the most biodiverse countries in South East Asia. And in the earth/world scale of the most biodiverse countries.. at no 2 behind Brazil is Indonesia.
You know I was having a really bad day but these fish are so unique and I'm starting to feel a lot better. Thanks Zac

these fishes are GORGEOUS holy crap. Never knew that cherry barbs naturally populate such extreme environments. Those wild bettas are so beautiful. And shout out to that millipede, its legs really be wildin....
I'm from Malaysia! Didn't know we had such pretty fish here!
This channel is the reason I got into marine and entomology. Thank you for being so inspiring!! :)
LESSSGOOOOOOOOHHH MALAYSIA MENTIONED🎉🎉🎉
This is awesome. I am actually from Malaysia. It shocked me so much when I saw the title of this video... I am currently in the US studying fish biology as well, could you give me the contact of these people? It would be cool if I could meet up with them back in Malaysia. Did you bring any specimens back to the US?

As a Malaysian, Im really happy to see people enjoy the nature here! Hope to see you in Borneo
I love the difference between a fish tank and their natural habitat. You're so used to see them in these beautiful, colorful, crystal clear aquariums that seeing them in what's basically a muddy pond feels wrong.
This is seriously one of my favorite videos you’ve made! What an amazing trip. I can’t wait to do stuff like this someday
Ayyyy loveeeeee those. Really hope you had an amazing trip and you came back in good shape :) And it looks like you had a blast actually! Thats great! 🐟

14:21 this is the kind of historical event I don't mind living through
AVNJ’s adventures are the best. Keep living the dream man!
This was the moment we all waited for. And it was great
My favorite AVNJ's adventures yet! It's amazing seeing all of these aquarium-kept and unique species living in such small, murky bodies of water.
These are literally the fish I keep and want to keep ❤ very cool to see you in Malaysia. There is a user in r/aquariums that lives in Malaysia that regularly post awesome fish he finds in streams and peat swamps by the road. So jealous, pickings are pretty limited here in Aus
The earlier part takes place in I believe an oil palm plantation, they are very common and often cover large swaths of land here in Malaysia. Still surprised to find interesting wildlife there though. I believe the guppies are introduced purposefully to control the mosquito population, they are also commonly found in drains.
Yea we have alot in kulim my hometown i saw someone selling snake heads and walking catfish for sale but I think its animal abuse cause they had no water just being put out in a tub with no water no filter and no air cause its a morning market

Homie the rasbora you loved is very fittingly called the brilliant rasbora :) Also those are dwarf rasboras haha, definitely not cherry barbs
glad you had some fun in my home country :)
Woo yeah baby this is what we’re waiting for this is what it’s all about
woahhh that fish that hadn’t been seen since 1967 is so awesome, it must have felt so cool to have pulled that out of the water!
