15:10 what the fish see during the filming of AVNJ’s adventures.
I've gone 21 years without ever seeing a baby catfish. They're precious💖

i have seen bunch small as the tip of my finger, but where i am from they are invasive, less precious, stil cute tho...
“He’s not enjoying it very much” Overturning Minnow: *’Dead’*
The orange-and-black beetle you got some images of is a member of the family Lycidae. They're often known as net-winged beetles.
And now for another episode of in the field with internet histor..... I mean AVNJ
I am once again asking Zack to kiss a wolf eel on the forehead when he gets 500k subs ((this is a petition)) He already said he would consider it

I FUCKING NEED THAT FUCKING NET, GIVE ME THAT FUCKING NET, I WANNA CATCH EVERY SINGLE FISH IN THE SEA
I love how much you geek out about your new net. Like an artist with a brand new paintbrush! 🥰
That stick bug looking insect is likely a water scorpion, in the family nepidae which includes things like the toe biter (giant water bug). The genus is likely Ranatra

Yeah, I think it’s a water scorpion, and belongs to true bugs (the order)
@Ezekiel_Allium

No clue water scorpions could get that huge, all the ones I've ever seen (and I've seen like, two ever, both in captivity) were like a quarter of that size. I'm out her pogging out of my gourd meanwhile mr Avian Jay calls it a "stickbug or something" and moved on.
Recently I was fishing at the dam, and this guy was holding a net in the water gate. Keeping whatever fell through into the net. His kids or grandkids were there too. Great example…lazy, unsportsmanlike, and very very illegal. What a piece of work

That sounds like it could be fun to do just see what there is but keeping everything is just shitty
Imagine being a small fish in a river, you get picked up by a net and then have a huge creature looking closely at you, inspecting you, breathing on you just to get tossed back into the water. O_O
AVNJ getting a mobile macro lens was the single best form of validation for my purchase of one to take photos of cute bugs
I've never been so excited about someone else getting a net.
I have been studying Tessellated and Johnny darters since you mentioned them a while ago. They turn out to be somewhat interesting (to me)

Johnny darters? I haven't heard of them in 25 years or so. There was a stream in Indiana county p.a. that had tons of them that I would catch and keep in my aquarium. Once in awhile we would find hellbender salamanders there also.
Notropis hudsonius, Spottail shiners are incredibly common where I live in Western Canada. In my experience they are the most common minnow in both our rivers and lakes. You could probably catch thousands per day if you were targeting them! :)
10:08 "Some of these guys can be anything." Fish biologist confirms baby Megalodon in New Jersey river!!
This is like an ad for that net. And you know what? Maybe I’m sold.
The music at the start is fucking lit, it gets you excited for the video
I really enjoy these adventure videos! I love the little crayfish and hearing about what all these little river fish are. I'd really enjoy seeing the lampreys.
I love these adventures, there's something so wholesome and charming besides Zach's face.
"man talk about net" woukd have been an accurate title. I know the feeling of getting a specialised tool, the quality of life improvement is instantly noticeable. I stumbled uppon your channel a few days ago and have been binge watching it, you are very knowledgeable and aim your videos to people who knows or want to learn, thank you for that
The poor guys are just waiting for you to stop talking about them so you can throw them back in the water lmao. But this video was very cool! I don’t really know anything about fish, and I don’t catch them or anything, but I still really like watching your channel. I love your new net ❤️
I love your videos! Especially these field adventures. I had to get myself an accessory macrolens for my phone after this- I'm an aspiring insect/fish photographer and ritually watch your videos at the dinner table. Nothing makes me happier than fish n' bugs! Would love to see more videos about fish genus and identifying them. I've rewatchd your basics to ichthyology series countless of times.
It's truly amazing what you can find in our local stream/river
Better than the nets we made when the original mesh broke on ours. Definitely better than a stocking and far easier to empty.
I love the Notropis species so much, i have some rainbow shiners in my pond over here in the EU. They turn bright neon blue and red in the breeding season
He made that dip net sound so good I half expected him to say that it has a laser sight
I’ve been looking for a good dip net for quite a while so I will check out this net.
Did you know, rock bass have an equilibrium unlike other fish, and if you spin them they become dizzy and can’t swim straight for a few seconds
Behind ichthyology lectures, this might be my favorite mini series
Wish I had the time to go to places like these and search for fish and reptiles, that sounds like so much fun. These videos make me really want to go, I'll find time some day soon!
This is such a fun series
my man escaped the backrooms
This is like an unboxing video, but so much better!
this is the only youtube series where i audibly say to myself “noooo don’t leave” in a futile hope of convincing you to stay at the river
What kind of lense did you use for your phone? Those close ups looked so nice!

just a cheap macrolens off amazon!
Great video Zak really enjoyed it 🔥
Another way to tell if a water system is polluted, and which you could use your new net for, is to do an aquatic invertebrate survey! they're pretty easy to learn how to do. You collect Wet Bugs from a few different spots in the stream with different substrates and water speeds, and then you can go through and ID them all (roughly, you really only need to get to an order or sometimes family). Then, tally how many of each taxon you have. Then, you can either look up the pollution tolerances of the bugs (very easy to find online), and/or calculate the diversity index (Also easy to find online). Finding fewer types of inverts and mainly ones that are pollution tolerant means that your water system is fucked. The water scorpion (5:22) is pretty tolerant of pollution, but I think I saw a freshwater clam (not so tolerant!) when you pulled up that shield darter!
favorite series on youtube, awesome work
AVNJ adventures came a long way, but it was cool to see the progress in production quality
"We got a typical female" - AVNJ
The macrolense looks awesome! Particularly the crayfish given I’m currently drawing the NZ crayfish for my marine homework!
AVNJ you would love the local brackish estuary near where I live there is baitfish, crabs, glass shrimp, rays, baby bull sharks and other fish
Thank you Mr. AVNJ very cool
5:22 not a stick bug, but a water scorpion! unrelated to real scorpions (which are arachnids), these guys are in the order Hemiptera (true bugs), family Nepidae. They use their incredibly long ass as a snorkle, and then sit and grab small organisms that pass by to eat them.
Every epsiode is just so great and I absolutely love it
Ive been looking for a good net for years!! I cant wait to try it out!
Very nice expedition!
I'll never get enough of these videos
this is PEAK content
AVNJ MAKE A VIDEO ON THE EQUIPTMENT YOU USE IN AVNJ’S ADVENTURES
Very awesome fishing video 👍, I have never seen any local fish
pog! early to an avnj’s adventures! excited to see what you find!
In butte county, California thair are a lot of good streams but they usually have a lot of algae, and the crayfish are massive and there are a lot of bullfrog tadpoles if you go during the right season.
this person was the topic of an extremely long argument about a squid
this video was sponsored by big fishnet and we all know it, they want you to believe it's just a normal avnj's adventures but it's one big ad for big fishnet
What's the name of the macro lens you used? I'd love to get one myself and yours seems to have good quality! Also great video, I really love the AVNJ Adventures :)
LETS GO more fish guy goes on an adventure video
You make my day worth living
You heard it here, folks AJVN cares about size!
God I love how pretty darters are
Do you have any good recommendations for books to help with identifying minnows and other small aquatic life in North East USA? Google is great but not always reliable off the beaten path! You've inspired me to see what I can find out in the streams and rivers!
Love the music choice
When you caught the creek shut tesaleted darter and small mouth you had anacharis in the ne and I use that in my aquariums all the time
10:17 Size queen Avian Jay
these videos are so cool
WOO! Excited to see this!
Bro found the eyelash bug
As always good music taste with ba-da-ba by 2mello :)
Used to have a pet crawdad thing was cool honestly
i was just at LaSalle the other day and i caught a rock bass that was a pretty good size
Avnj stick bugged us
AVNJ talks about fish and nets
5:22 that’s a water scorpion
Dude, that stick but is some sort of ranatra! Predatory insect I think, I see them a lot during the winter. Not many other bugs are active then

Very good net, and very good lense!
Maybe in the future broski can get a go pro and the chest strap so you would have a underwater camera and alternatively be able to use both hands 🙌 Stuffs expensive Keep up the good content 👍
what was the macro lens he used?? I mainly take macro photography, but I can't carry my camera with me all the time, I would love a little phone attachment.
Nice video! Do you remember which lens you have? I'm considering buying one too
lamprey ep!!!
The bug in the beginning is a water Scorpion, I think
Not to flex but just saying I was chilling the other day in Florida and I saw an endangered whooping crane
AVNJ is the best gacha streamer
I cant believe they named a river after the best aussie desert
I swear to god I met you irl years ago in Morris County (iirc), NJ and we talked about the endangered blue-spotted salamander. …but I’m so tilted cause I’m not sure if I straight up fabricated / dreamt this memory lol.
@AVNJ
Жыл бұрын
Its possible, but Im rarely in that county and I don't remember anything about that salamander species, so its possible its fabricated lol.
Crabzilla.
You should come to Central Pennsylvania for an AVNJ adventures. Most of the same creatures but it'll be nice knowing one of my favorite creators listened to my suggestion.
PLEASE LINK THAT MACRO LENSE!! Also awesome vid
I wanted to do this for a while but I unfortunately live in a desert so. 🤷🏻♂️
Aw man where’s the specimen container? :c I was hyped for little catfish in the specimen container
Those little bluuheads were cuties
yo new thumbnail clickbait face dropped
which macro lens are you using? been doing walks to a couple of groins along the beach in la and there a lot of skittery lads that are so hard to get good images out without the extra zoom
