@@SuzetteKath I had them, i just didn't have anything they wanted. I live in Delaware, and 7 years after my divorce someone won the lottery here. My ex demanded to know if it was me. she was all ready to launch into spend mode. She was not really convinced when I told her no. Delaware is a small state, but I'm not the only one here. Her mother came into several million dollars and ran through it like water and died penniless.

What made Ted’s sister so special that his parents and himself kept harping to his wife that they should give the house to her? And at one point Ted says come on we’ll go to a new place buy a new house and start new memories. Well if you got that kind of money to buy a new house then why on earth did you buy the house for your sister and leave the house your wife inherited from her family. The audacity of Ted and his parents, insisting that she has to give her house to their daughter/sister. I’m actually glad she got sold the house out from under them.

The logic of selling her own house to enable her to start a business and new life cannot be gainsaid. The very idea that in-laws can demand her house for their daughter is entitled insanity. As for her husband siding with his parents in their craziness, this shows how little he valued his marriage vows. She is well rid of them all.

This is at least the 3rd story I've heard on this theme. What is wrong with people who don't call out these in-laws as the thieves they are? Inheritances are not marital assets, they are personal ones. These in-laws were looking to steal Helen's house and within another year or so would have tossed her out like so much garbage. I was kind of thinking the same thing, due to the woman moving out of that house and not kicking the others out. I would've flew off the handle at them if they demanded that of me. Although, there are narcissistic people like this that will lure others in, use them up, and then kick them to the curb. I have seen these type of people brainwash someone over a few years and actually convince the victim it was all their fault. It's truly mind boggling.

I don’t understand why OP would sell her house. It belongs to her. It seems to me that the husband didn’t have any rights to decide whether his sister can get the house, because he didn’t own it, his wife owned the house. The in-laws have no say so regarding their daughter in-law’s house!!! The nerve of the in-laws and the husband! It seems in many of these stories that OP puts up with so many unnecessary drama. Tell the in-laws “NO”!!!! If they have a problem with the word “No”, let them know that they are no longer welcomed in the house 🏡 until they learned to respect OP and her boundaries. If the husband wants to threaten and cause trouble, DIVORCE him!!! Afterwards, kick him out and keep YOUR house 🏠!!! Why sell it?🤔

In Ohio, you have something called Dower Rights (spousal rights). It is usually considered to be an undivided 1/3 interest whether they are on title together or not, unless some special circumstances, like the property being in a trust for example. The husband would have to sign the transfer of title deed to release his dower rights to the new owner (buyer). That's why all these quicky divorces... "Oh, I'll file a sheet of paper, and we are immediately divorced." The stories are mostly nonsensical.

I wouldn't even go so far as to sell my hone just to make that point. I would have said "NO" and evicted the husband and his parents. Divorce is the only choice and ultimatum. That was stupid. All you had to do was set boundaries. Tell your husband and MIL that if they continue to bring this up they’d both be kicked out the house. You screwed yourself out of a perfectly paid off house.
