Long comment alert! (The comment is directed to everyone who wants to read more latin writers and or "natives" 's stories). Btw i call them "natives" because they are civilizations so diverse that I think an only name only invisibilizes them... Most of them don't like being called natives and do not think they are citizens of the new countries, specially argentina (My country) or chile, since these countries were extremely genocidal towards them. Sorry for the long comment Read Jorge Luis Borges if You like latin writers. Maybe he's much more western, since he was taught about european culture from the day he was born. But for anyone who is starting with latin literature, he is an excellent starting point. I only know about argentinians writers tho, so I can't recommend much more than that. If you want to know about women who wrote beautiful things, You have Isabel Allende (She's from chile), Victoria Ocampo (argentinian), Alfonsina storni (argentinian). Then other famous writers are Adolfo Bioy Cásares, Julio Cortázar, Gabriel García Márquez (he was colombian). Maybe they are kinda western, but they serve as an excellent introduction. But if you are interested in finding things about "natives" You can look for the stories of Guaraníes, Aztecas, Incas, Wichíes, Onas, Yámanas, Mayas, Mapuches and many more... (These are the biggest civilizations and some more that are or were located in what we now know as Argentina, chile, bolivia, Brasil and more countries)

When Allyvee did her video reading Bo Burnham’s favorite books, she had the same thing where she didn’t love his choices because what Bo has taken from those books and turned into his own art is much more intriguing and meaningful to her (or in general). I think it’s okay, while somewhat hard to grapple with, to not like the art your favorite artist likes.

I CANNOT tell you how long I have waited for you to do this. Lorde is one of my favourite artists and songwriters and doing this video seriously made my day!!
Mariana Enriquez is probably my favorite contemporary author, although I am a native Spanish speaker so I've read her work in the original language. Her novel nuestra parte de noche (I don´t think it has been translated into English yet) is so strange and hypnotic, definitely one of my favorite things ivé read this year.

I love when you talked about Enriquez's book, you actually explained the history behind it. I think is very important to have the historical context of a book to fully appreciate it. ♥ Love your videos so much
If you and Carley read each other's favorite books imma combust into a puddle of happiness I NEED THIS
AAAAAAHHHHHH YOU READ AN ARGENTINIAN WRITER!!! We love to see it :3 Would highly recommend Julio Cortázar's Final del Juego (End of the Game), Rayuela (Hopscotch) which is a chunky one but the chapters can be read in two different ways recommended by the author or in any order you want. My favourite chapter yet is 93. Then from that book he expanded chapter 62 into a book 62 Modelo Para Armar (62: A Model Kit), haven't read that one yet but I want to cause it's considered his most experimental novel. On another spectrum I recommend Mafalda comics by Quino, very political critique coming from the witty 6 year old female character. It went from the 60s to the 70s and it ended for obvious reasons. The comics resonate with many till this day. Our beloved Quino passed away last year unfortunately. Hope you see this xo

Hi Jack, I don't usually comment but I felt I had to share this because I adore your videos to the point that I feel like sometimes I'm talking to a friend about books 😊 I'm reading the course of love and totally understood your point of view, but I took the little messages spread out in the book in a different light. As a psychology student very interested in any content portraying human connections, I found the literal interpretations of the romance an incredible way of fixing important messages about what we should expect out of a long term romantic relationship. It does leave little to the imagination, but it is a smart and objective way of assuring everyone, even the people who could get too caught up in the specific details of this fictional specific story, can extract universals reflections that could very well apply to their lives (at last that's what I felt). I was super interested and surprised with your comment, but couldn't help to say that, although obvious at times, this books has helped me understand love in clearer ways than unexplained love stories or long scientific studies/texts about relationships because it intertwines both in a weird but special way.
oh my god… the first two minutes were like an EXACT copy of my mind / my thoughts about Lorde and her new album 😍😍😍
