Since checkmating simultaneously on both boards is practically impossible unless martin is also aware of the challenge and is trying to allow it, I think the following would be acceptable even being strict: Make the checkmating move on the non-checkmate board, then mirror it on the checkmating board. Then the next move you could checkmate on the first board. Still extremely hard, but imo at least plausible (IIRC you had that situation, or at least close to it in this game witht he back rank mate and the other king being trapped on a single square) and still within turn order.

If it wasn't for the hanging of a queen and 2 rooks, I think there was a decent chance of a double checkmate. If you get to endgame with a queen and a rook, then a laddermate should be relatively easy to accomplish on both kings at the same time.

This got me thinking of how to coach a beginner in the most universal concepts of the game, how to boil chess down to the most simple advice from which to build on their own. For the opening: Replicate "dream development" knights to f3/c3 f6/c6, bishops to c4/f4, castle short, queen up d2/e2, rooks to the middle and throw in h3/h6 for an escape square no matter what your opponent does, eventually they'll find move order optimizations and how to avoid trap openings on their own For the middle game: Trade, this requires an explanation of the point system, even trades, bishop for knight is fine to start, when a trade is possible go for it, this trains the ability to see contact between the pieces, reduces hanging piece blunders and raises the players ability to spot hanging pieces of their opponent, we're not worried about going for checkmate at this stage, just getting comfortable keeping the pieces on strong squares and trading down. For the endgame get your king up the board and attack pawns, I think this is the simplest advice to build on, the importance of utilizing your king cannot be stressed enough, eventually they'll realize they can't let a pawn get pass the king and discover the benefits of opposition, but move that king. This would make a great speed run series, like Building Habits on the chessbrah channel, there's a serious market for this kind of content and too few chess youtubers exploiting it because it takes a lot of time to edit the whole thing and it's mentally trying to play down to your opponents level when you see easy tactics, but for me playing down helped me to find creative alternatives and really observe the psychology of my opponents but that another story the bottom line is finding meta strategies that help new players understand the whole game

Hmm. But that would ruin a fine move like Qf5+

An interesting variation would be 3 boards and things get decided by what happens in a majority of boards. -You can move a piece if it exists in at least 2 boards (you would need to implement a no-move in the third board). -You win if you checkmate in at least 2 boards, maybe not simultaneously. -After the first win or lose, you return to two-board rules (you might recover a few frozen pieces) but without simultaneous checkmate being required. -After the second win or lose, you only get to use the common pieces in the two boards (alternatively, the pieces which are in the same position in two boards whatsoever).

So.. what this means Nelson... is that your rating should be somewhere under 250, right?

I think you needed to focus on cornering the king and just take all the pieces, you made things a lot harder for you by trying to checkmate in the middle of the game, the king escaping wasn't a big problem you could easily have just took all the pieces and forced the king into the same position in both boards

6:56 at this stage I would've played Rxd4 on both boards so if Martin plays Nxd4 on the right board, he gets mated with Qe7++

But it doesn't mate the left board and it's not allowed. Nelson wanted to mate both kings with the same move at the same time.

Plot twist. Potential spoiler incoming. When the video ended, Nelson went Super Saiyan on both boards and crushed Martin. -If the board where Martin had 2 Queens didn't see a mating net.-

What a noob! I can checkmate Martin with just a Queen and a Bishop and you can’t win with two whole sets of pieces. Lol I should be a GM is this is NM level. 🤣🤣
