You're welcome! 🙂
I've also made this skirt! It falls so nicely when lined! I might have to make annother someday. Also: I love the way I can hear your smile in your voice, even when I look down at my sewing and not up at you. :)

I'm so glad to see that other people make mistakes. I'm desperately frustrated with sewing. It helps to know that even experienced sewists sometimes have glitches, too..
Thank you for posting this. Makes me want to get back to costuming. I had given up on making stuff for myself. You help remind me to have fun with it, not just sew for everyone else. Thanks again and good luck on your next project!

Jimminey Cricket is awesome!!! Those pieces are huge!!! It looks lovely!!! Skipping steps makes more work. Some days are mix up days. I hope the stitching scars aren’t noticeable. It’s pretty put together!!! Yay!!! She’s done!!! Pockets are Awesome!!! Great work!!!

I think it’s so cool that you chose a Disney character other than a princess. Jiminy is a favorite of mine! I’d love to see an Edwardian Donald Duck, too, but I’m weird. Beautiful skirt, and can’t wait to see the rest! Be well, sweetie!

I was debating on this pattern, but I think I will get it. You made it look so lovely! And, mistakes are not mistakes, they help you learn, and besides, it looks so very lovely on you. As someone else said, you can hear your smile in your voice. Keep moving forward! I cannot wait to see the vest!

I love this skirt. This is the first historical dress pattern that I bought and I've just got to finish the hem now. I was amazed at the amount of material that went into the back panels - especially as I did flat line it. Luckily it was only the lining I had to piece!

Rebecca - that is a very good fit - very smooth lines, side seams sit well straight down the sides and its a well balanced skirt! Well done. Anything that has to be upsied is a mental challenge and requires skill and experience. And i love how neat the hem is! Wow. and Im jealous of the colour....not a colour we can get here in Aust really easily - just beautiful!

I think I’m gonna make one of these. Though I think I’ll need to use a good deal more fabric in the back. I’ve noticed with larger people like us it takes extra fabric to make everything drape in a proportionally equivalent manner. And frankly if we’re talking about gowns or skirts to me there’s no such think as too much fabric. As long as the silhouette and drape feel “right” (balanced? Whatever? lol) that is.

@@PocketFullofPoseys I'm using the mockup for the petticoat. I didn't add the hook and eyes, interfacing etc etc. So I cheated a wee bit
❤
Great result ! I have also used this pattern before and I thought it was REALLY good (even tho I had to downsize by 2 inches the waist size haha), especially the instructions were very clear. I have never did a placket like that before and it turned out perfect tbh

I am watchong this on my way to my best friend, who is a MAJOR Jiminy Cricket fan. So I'll definitely make her watch this 😂 As always, love the video, and I look forward to a "when you wish upon a star" singalong (I did sing along to the last ones!) 🥰

Yay! I will be making a sing along for this one too. 🙂
Fab shape on you! Looking at that, and thinking I could make something which channels late Victorian skirts by adding extra panel(s) in the back of my favourite maxi skirt pattern (the panels are all basically the same shape, although some of the pieces cut on the fold, and some don't, the grainline falls the same way on each).
@PocketFullofPoseys
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Neat idea!
The sequence about the two front pieces not being seen correctly reminded me of the time I was making my candy pink dress.based from the one from the film The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex. I thought I could make the skirt just by gathering it and sewing it to the bodice and not have to cut skirt panels. If I wasn't so tall it would of worked but since I was tall the dress stoped at my ankles. It's my favorite costume but when I see photos of it in full length I stil cringe. Not sure if it's because of the skirt or the ugly shoes I tried to make work with the gown.

@@PocketFullofPoseys very true
I would have absolutely made the same "Oh, I'll make a french seam of it" -mistake. Actually :D I was even thinking that at the point when you said that you sew them wrong side out: "Well, maybe she can avoid unpicking if she makes french seam of it" :D I hate unpicking.
@PocketFullofPoseys
3 жыл бұрын
Same. Unpicking is the worst!
Love the video! This may be really obvious to people who are more knowledgable on this, but I'm just really curious, what is the different between a Victorian fan skirt and a walking skirt?
@PocketFullofPoseys
3 жыл бұрын
There really isn't any difference. The Fan Skirt pattern I used had fewer gores than the walking skirt I made, but I don't know that that is true of every fan skirt pattern. The name refers to the pleats in the back, and walking skirt refers to the walking length of the skirt. So, a fan skirt can also be a walking skirt.
hello, I have a question for you: about the hem and the fantail: if one was not going to wear a bum roll, would it look OK if you hemmed it all the same length???? I was thinking I could wear this skirt as a regular "everyday skirt" , so I wouldn't wear a bun roll....
@PocketFullofPoseys
3 жыл бұрын
I didn't wear a bustle pad in the video. I need to make a smaller one. The back isn't a lot longer than the front, so you could probably have it the same length as the front.
I really love the way that this drapes in the back. How do you like the new dress form. Does it match you well enough so that you can tell how the fit is? I am thinking about this dress form and my figure is a lot like yours.
@PocketFullofPoseys
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the dress form is working out well! I used an old corset to cinch her down to my corseted waist measurement. The bust is not perfect, but it's close enough to get a decent fit before I fit it on myself.
Is this silk?
