Making a Historically Accurate Disney Jane Porter | Victorian, 1880s, sewing vlog II

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
If you missed my previous videos for this project, here is the design video • Designing a Historical... and the first vlog about the construction • Making a Historically ...
This is vlog number 2 of sewing/making/construction a Historically Accurate (or the term I prefer coined, as far as I know, by Sewstine, historically adequate!) Jane Porter from Tarzan, the Disney film from 1999. In this vlog, we tackle the skirts which consist of an underskirt and an overskirt. Both of these were made using Truly Victorian patterns that I had not worked with before, but I found them both useful and decently easy to follow (although all the ties may be a little fussy). For types of fabrics, quantities, and more pattern detaisl, please see my first video! I think altogether they create a really good silhouette! There are, of course, some tweaks I'd still like to make to improve the look altogether, but I think this was a solid attempt at this decade (especially considering it was my first!). If you are in a Disney mood, please see the list in this description with many others making Disney costumes :) I really enjoyed this project and I don't think my historical Disney journey will end here 👀
Thank you for watching!

@@agimagi2158 oh man this was so me years ago. I was the same with makeup, and wool and fabric too. I'd see a pretty colour and be need it badly! I don't wear all the pretty colours though! So I now buy plants with the colours I adore because I figured that's the best option! I love all plants and get so much more joy than my wool/fabric/makeup stash. I have tons of lace like that when I bought it to make dresses for my granddaughters. But me daughter said it was “too fussy”. Now I have a great granddaughter and a great grandson. Have I used any? But if we aren’t careful we will end up like my aunt. My Dad told me that when she died and the kids cleaned out her home she had a box that was labelled “things to nice to use” . When they opened it, it was full of sheets and pillow cases with embroidery and hand tatted lace. Table linens and doilies all probably made by her Mom 50 years before. Use things that are too nice to use. That’s what they are for.

Nice! Last time I was this early, Tarzan's parents were still on the boat. Pins through the carpet is life! Don't worry about the bent ones. You'll work out how to not do that with practice. My only question is: can you run away from cheeky monkeys?

  • @JessicaFleur01

Pins in a very shaggy carpet is how both my brother and I ended up with pieces of those pins getting lodged in our knees. But there is no sewing without accidentally pricking yourself. The outfit is lovely, it suits you so well.

This is delightful. I love the finished product. I have been long fascinated by Jane. As a character, she interests me because she is written by a man to be an 'ideal' in a fantasy primarily envisioned for men. That so many women have loved the character is interesting. Of course, Disney does not actually match the original literature, but they came quite close in many aspects. Lovely to go there again.

Beautiful job! I love your use of twill tape. It’s a great way to control the large volume of fabric. I’ve put bustles in many wedding dresses and sometimes it’s the only way to manage and control lots of fabric so it hangs beautifully. I stand by something I learned more than 30 years ago. Dupioni is one of my favourite fabrics to sew!
