    I think for the average person just keeping your weight down and having a good diet with out eating to excess all the time is all you need to do. Also a bit of daily exercise. I was diagnosed type 2 - 5 years ago and I was only just in the diabetic range the first year. The last 4 years I have been tested annually and the readings are all in normal non diabetic range. I am 63 years old and did have a heart attack in 2020 and a stent fitted. I do 10k of steps a day, everyday, and have a mainly good balanced diet. Look after yourself and your body will look after you. I think in this day and age people get to wrapped up in tech to solve their health issues when in actual fact for many it is just a change in lifestyle that is required.

    Hey Dave, long time viewer. As a type 1 diabetic, a CGMS is one of those tools that have changed my life. Since I do not have natural insulin in my body, I have to inject it multiple times a day. Knowing exactly how food (sugar/carbs) affects my glucose levels, it allows me to be more accurate when injecting insulin. However, I do not see the value for a healthy person who does not have diabetes. Hyperglycemia, diabetes, becomes the disease, when the your glucose levels are elevated. That's what the sensor tells you. Since you are not diabetic, you will never see the negative impact in your body when you eat fruits, vegetables, ice cream, rice, beans, anything that is not meats and eggs. Why? Because your pancreas will perfectly create the right amount of insulin to take that glucose directly into your cells for energy. This device for healthy people basically tells you the great job your pancreas is doing. BTW, if you can get a doctor to prescribe a freestyle libre, you can get two for like $100-$135 bucks even if you do not have insurance.

    Welcome to what life is like for diabetics. The issues you mentioned regarding the "warmup" yep, seems to be "normal/expected" (dexcom does the same).. The low during sleep.. don't lay on the sensor as that can cause "fake" lows. I wonder how well it does with realizing that the pizza you may have eaten a couple of hours earlier is what is triggering a glucose spike. I've seen at least 3 different meals that seem to have about a 2 hour delay before spiking. Also, things will likely vary (same meal for example) but because of the exercise the day before or earlier in the same day it may be higher than expected or lower (possibly depending on hydration/stress/intensity etc) With all of that being said over a long term, you can start to see trends and learn alot about how your body handles carbs. And even be able to feel more comfortable as to what level you might need to be at before starting an exercise known how intense/long it may be (and or an idea of fueling you may need during) and try not to spike high or low afterwards.

    I wore one for 10 days. Not one of the fancy ones, that depend on smartphone integration. A Libre Pro, I believe. I have been low carb since feb. 2021, and was curious about blood glucose in regards to certain foods, and whether I would regulate blood glucose effectively, when I ate carbs in social events. Also, I was curious on glucose levels when running. I had a log in which I logged the time and food or training event, so I could cross reference every event (if there was one). During the 10 days, I tried popcorn, peanuts, beans, refined carbs (fairly small amounts), complex carbs. Also, the timing aspect was explored (complex carbs after intense exercise). Average glucose in that 10 day period was 5.2mmol/L. Glucose variability, 11.5%. Estimated HBA1c, 4.9%. One hypoglycemic event was recorded. A 45 min drop at 05am (asleep) below 3.9mmol/L. At 6am, it was back at roughly 5mmol, without any actions (was asleep). A bowl of popcorn was the high scorer in my experiment. Raised my glucose levels to around 8mmol/L, which was back to normal after 2 hours. Whole grain pasta (75g dry weight) following an intense interval session showed a very mild increase to about 6.0mmol, which was back at 5.0 in less than an hour. All in all, very fun experiment. Not diabetic, but a strong believer in keeping blood glucose fairly low and stable (reduce glycation of red blood cells, arterial lining, lipoproteins and so on).

    I plan to do this sometime this year but I'm thinking of planning out my meals and various workouts for the two weeks to capture the full spectrum of the good and bad that I eat and do. I wonder if it's best not to monitor the results until after the first two week stint to eliminate the initial anxiety and give me a baseline of my levels with various activities and meals. Then I could do another 2 weeks with real time monitoring to try out dietary changes based on what I learned from my first two weeks. Either way, I definitely think this type of monitoring is the future...

    I've tried the Supersapiens CGM, not this one. Luckily I was able to use it during my Marathon training until race day, before the company went bankrupt... It helped nail my training/race nutrition and was able to run a beautiful race, feeling really good and with a flat glucose chart. The Supersapiens didn't have the food insights, which would have been nice. It's all very complicated science and definitely not easy to make sense of all the data. It's good for a short period for an athlete to learn his/her nutrition needs during a specific race preparation, but I don't think it's something that can be used long term. So, without a subscription model I just can't see how Ultrahuman can succeed where Supersapiens failed..

    Cool! Thanks for sharing. I found a Garmin Connect widget that lets me display the real time glucose levels during an activity. I'm going to try to find a way to use that for fueling at races! I think UltraHuman makes a little bit of money on the sensors as they are priced slightly higher than market price and on top of that I think they're hoping to drive M1 users to their Ring Air smart ring as well since they use the same app. In that case they'd pick up an additional sale of their ring which is $300.

    I wore the Supersapions version of this as one of their start up folks (when it was cheaper) At first I thought it was useful. But then I noticed that there are just too many variables. A meal that would spike my BG one day would do little on another. Poor sleep would effect it one time then not. I ended up not really being able to take any obvious actions from the data (and I love data) It's similar to the gut health stuff being peddled in the UK by Zoe. There is just too much noise.

    2 questions: 1. Is there coaching or a premium upgraded version of the app that can help with coaching towards healthier goals based on its inputs? 2. Would you use this calibrate your own individual nutrition plan for long runs and races? I feel like it could help add some insight into what your body is going through and help come up with a proper fueling and recovery plan for ultra runners out there and it being a running/tech channel it wasn’t mentioned at all on how it could help an athletes performance.

  • @ChaseTheSummit

    @ChaseTheSummit

    They don't offer any form of coaching other than what the app provides. There's no upgrades. Yes, I think it's going to be a useful tool for longer races. In fact I found a Garmin Connect IQ widget so that I can view my real time levels at a glance mid-activity. Should be interesting during my next ultra!

    One thing you should be aware is putting the sensor before bed as you said in the video the way i think about it is not a good thing :) i'm an athlete and got it for the same reason to try to see my body response, maybe that's why you got those 55 low because probably was calibrated after your meal before bed while was spiking and thought the high glucose was "normal" and then dropped from that "standard" during night to really low values. I think you should do it in the morning a bit after wake (to let the glucose estabilize while you are fasting), because if you apply after meals the sensor is calibrating without know that you had a huge carb meal and is expecting some regular glucose level during that calibration hour, also that's why i think they say to wait 24h so it can see all variations, but i prefer get it in morning in a calm state to make sure it gets all the right measurements :) Ofc this is how i thought about it when applied it and worked great so far but not sure if there's "science" or how it works that calibration ahah

  • @ChaseTheSummit

    @ChaseTheSummit

Is it really heavy on food logging or do you think if you can keep tabs on when and what you ate and know that if it was positive or negative just make the changes or does it require you long those things? Also I am a whoop wearer as well do you think that the tracking will ever be offered within the app (im guessing not as they have their ring) also... I wear an Apple Watch and think that would be a great match is the info displayed well within the health app? I am thinking about just going all in and giving it a year try. IMHO, all these lifestyle CGM packages (Ultrahuman, Supersapiens, Levels, Nutrisense, Veri, etc) are questionable value at best - they don't add much over the base CGM, often cost hundreds more per year and have a rigid subscription model. If you want the insights provided by a CGM, just get your GP to prescribe you one, pay for it out of pocket, and learn how to interpret the data yourself and feed it upstream to where it can be crossmatched vs your other health and training metrics (like Cronometer and/or TrainingPeaks). P.S. I prefer Dexcom G7 over Libre 3 for its higher water resistance rating, which might be an important factor for triathletes.

  • @ChaseTheSummit

    The sensor is made by Abbot but not the software. This is pretty typical because the sensor is a medical device and these software brands (supersapiens, Levels, Ultrahuman, etc...) aren't in the business of making medical devices. So they leverage what exists and layer their software on top of it. But yeah, I can't imagine it lasting very long in water multiple times per week!

He said that he does not even uses all that that data and does not have the most expensive watch. He just runs the schedule his trainer gives him. Then I talked to another fast runner who als does not has the most expensive watch and does not even know how to use the gpx track option.
