I Finally Tried JHERI CURL GEL And... | Luster's S Curl Gel Wash and Go

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Trying Lusters S Curl activator gel on type 4 hair. Then comparing Aunt Jackie’s gel with Eco styler.
It’s been ages but the time is now. I’m finally putting Lusters Curl and Wave Curl Activator (aka Jheri Curl Gel) to the test!
Here’s the original cocktail for this wash and go: Luster’s S-Curl Activator Moisturizer, Luster’s S Curl and Wave Jel Activator, Wetline Extreme gel.
I’m bypassing the activator moisturizer spray because it contains a preservative that is a formaldehyde releaser. Then I’m swapping out the Wetline gel for a comparison of Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel vs Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel.
In hindsight, I must say the magic of the S Curl gel is not in the curl definition. The magic is in the moisture retention throughout the week for a type 4 wash and go. It made a huge difference! I highly recommend you try it.

If you haven't already, try Uncle Funky's Daughter Curl Magic. It clumps curls amazing on its on (you can add a gel on top if you want, but it doesn't play well with eco styler)...it's less sticky and gross than that luster stuff.

It’s up to you, but I recommend sitting under the hood dryer for 30 mins max and diffusing the rest of the way. The great thing about hood dryers is that your hitting most of your hair all at once-that’s how it maintains the shape of your wng better. But on dense hair, you could spend all day under there and not get your hair completely dry. So be careful not to over dry that top layer of your hair.

“Have I been spoiled?!” 😆 in a manner of speaking. The hardest part about a wash n go is the technique. Once you get that down, products make very small differences. Whether I’m doing a $10 wng or a $25 wng...it looks and last’s relatively the same lol that’s my experience anyway. Edit: A DRYER!!! I got all excited like it was my Christmas present 🤣

I have kinky type 4 etc, low porosity hair and love the S Curl + Eco combo. I think the first time I tried it, I felt a little stickiness. But each time after, not sticky, not blue... And soft soft soft for at least a week. So far, it's the only wash n go that keeps my hair soft with definition for that long. I've done it on 3 other members of my family (all different hair types) and they raved about the softness as well. Like you said, we all diff hair and it's fun to experiment!

@Alvina Sandra. I agree- shower cap is key for retaining the moisture. I get them from Dollar Tree [I’m in the US-Chicago]. Then a bonnet at night. Issue for me is not over-saturating and having to sleep on a damp head. Side note: Her eyebrows are goals.

I have been using this since the summer. In addition to being cheaper than all of the natural brands on the market, it has really helped me a lot. I big chopped in June of last year and I’m a wash and go girl with 4 million different types of on my head. There are tricks to using this product. 1. There is a lite version which is less sticky. 2. To somewhat lite on the s curl and heavier on the other gel. I like wet line. The gel creates a caste over the s curl gel and blocks that sticky stuff. 3. After it dries, I usually apply another layer of gel. After several days your hair will still look great and the stickiness goes away. I even have found that I like my twist outs with it. Once you conquer the stickiness, this is an awesome product.

I have both the Eco and the Aunt Jackie's gels (along with far too many other gels), and those just don't work in combination with the glycerin in Lusters.. You have to get the Wetline.. Fire combos are combos for a reason.. Idk what it is but something in curl activator is just amplified by the Wetline.. Any other gel I have tried to use in combination just falls flat.. I sadly wasn't as smart as you are, and have purchased an arsenal of gels that are now seemingly obsolete 🥺.. Now that I've found my go-to combo...
