I come from a long line of centenarians, I am also Japanese, my grandparents are both in their late 90s and they always tell me that the key is moderation. These videos focus a lot of FOOD and Exercise but it never talks about the other things that are equally important: culture and religion. Asian culture focuses a lot on Family and community. We also strive to live "gently" instead of being fast and furious like the Americans do...finding peace and tranquility in tiny things like a swaying breeze and the marvels of nature. Being Buddhists and lighting incense at temples bring immense joy and pleasure, live simply and without need for narcissism and competition with one another.

She began this healthy diet and exercise when she was 65. That's inspired me. Amazingly, she eats red meats, chicken, and other foods everyone eats. She is not vegan or vegetarian. In one of her Japanese videos, she emphasized keeping moving your body all day. In my Japanese neighborhood, adorable couples in the 80s run 42K marathons and climb mountains. They told me not to sit and surf the internet, watch TV, and play on your smartphone. Modern technologies make life easier, but they cause people to weaken and aging faster. Keep moving, do something that makes you physically move, be positive and happy everyday.

Amazing stuff! For those trying to get on this diet, it's easier to snack on these items throughout the day instead of a planned meal. Eat a random slice of tofu sometime in the day. Same goes for carrots, raw slice of betroot, etc. Challenge your habits and tv advertising.

@@lorrainemoynehan6791 Why do these diet plans never get along. Some say 3 times a day, others say 6. The English have breakfast, a snack before lunch, then lunch, then an early dinner in the late afternoon, then finally supper in the evening (which includes dessert. I think if you diversify the foods you eat -- including a wholesome, whole grain type of dessert (frozen yogurt, etc.) -- then it would still be a great plan. Always giving your body and brain the energy and nutrients it needs without too heavy a meal to digest such as eating only big portions twice a day. With small portions you get what you need and you digest quickly so your body can move on to other things. Just plan ahead, and remember that it doesn't always have to be a lengthy cooked meal; take that quick smoothie, that granola, that tofu, that roasted corn, that banana, a small nut sack (lol), etc.

I've eaten natto for lunch every day (roughly) for over 25 years, most of those years living in the States (though now in Japan). Japanese food, on the whole, is far more healthy than most western diets. The train system in Japan, moreover, requires people living here to walk to the local station unless they prefer using a car, but cars are simply not necessary in much of Japan. The bus system is also excellent. As a result, Japanese people acquire exponentially more walking and related exercise than the vast majority of Americans.

Wooow!! That's so great. The best thing is that she gives us the belief that we can live a healthy and happy life even in 90. Only what saw white bread, cooking food in oil, shop honey that's not acceptable every day!

Avoid bread/sugar, and if you will have some have your fat/protein first. Insulin spike will be a bit less severe in this manner.

I eat yogurt, banana and probiotics supplements everyday, the probiotics for women cured my long term chronic issue. Yakult is too sweet for me because I m into body building. Basically good diet should consists of good amount of protein, fat, micronutrients and moderate amounts of carbs (depending on your goals). We cannot follow a Japanese diet if we don’t live in Japan but a balanced diet can be achieved in any cuisine.

Well said, especially when you take the time to study your unique metabolism and food allergies, avoiding the things which may be 'healthy' for some but not for you. I avoid gluten, lactose, fructose, added sugar/salt, caffeine and alcohol, because my body absolutely abhors them. I've taken time to research and plan my diet with foods my body loves and can digest - this is possible in any culture, no matter where you live. I also do 30 minutes brisk walk + 30 minutes aerobics, 3 times a week; 24-hour, water only, intermittent fasts 3 days a week.

Similar to Natto in North East India, we have Axone of the Nagas and Hawaijaar of the Manipuris. Its a staple diet for both the communities. Manipuris even have fermented soyabean soup which has less stinky smell but absolutely a gem for the body when its served directly from the boiling pot.

"nuclear" gas from soy and cruciferous almost ended my marriage. I've heard it can get you fired, if you don't go on fire yourself. Maybe if I had started when I was a kid this may not be a fatal problem today. Thanks for the info. Nothing about her marital status or its history. I hope it's all good. Inspiring discipline.
