    Biffa i think you might still have "Free public transport" active in your stadium, which seems to be a bug as even after deactivating the city-wide policy still all your busses, ferries and even metro produce literally zero income, altough being used by over 4000 residents. Make sure all stadium also have the FPT policy off and check that figure again. It is absolutely possible to make profit off transportation (or atleast run almost even to expenses).

    Biffa just for your information, a single metro car capacity is around 120-150. If we thing there are multiple car connected to one metro (4-8) average metro capacity is like 600 people. Also ferries you have have 50 people capacity when a regular ferry capacity is around 200. I assume you need some assets with more realistic public transportation capacity.

    27:56 Note that the income figures for bus/metro/monorail etc. are all zero for both ‘before’ and ‘after’- therefore there must be something wrong with the ‘free public transport’ policy being turned off. The total transit balance difference is mainly caused by the income from air traffic, which likely just indicates a sudden influx of tourists (which is consistent with the higher transit-using tourists number later). Hence, unfortunately I don’t think this experiment on this policy is valid..

    Those cargo barges need to be included in Cities: Skylines 2! When a game developer is planning a sequel to a successful game, they would do well to look at the most popular/useful mods, figure out what deficit in the vanilla game the mods are trying to fix, and strive to incorporate their own fix into the new game. For Cities: Skylines, that means something that makes MoveIt redundant, improved traffic AI and management, and improved cargo AI. Also, more UI customisation options. It would also include enhanced transport modes, both for cargo and people, such as these cargo barges. Things that would enable you to, for example, build a community on an island without road access (and without fibbing it with a "secret" tunnel).

    I would love that you connect the other line from Tearantula to the other end of the EnTeatainment Island. You could add a line that goes that way and then a special express line that only stops in some station. Maybe you’ll need to add some bypass lines to achieve a quicker connection, but it would make everything to join those two spots in the city more efficient. I also think that you might need a second loop that goes to the first areas of the city that were developed. Also considering the express and bypass routes for metro station.

    My suggestions for solving the metro problem are to build another metro hub on the other side of the mountains (it doesn't need to be the Tearantula Station sized hub, I think there's a smaller one), and using that as a jumping-off point for that side of the island, as well as a line to HMP Guil-tea Island, Alien Rock Park and similar destinations. You can use the unused Tearantula line to connect the two. Another underused line to consider is the above-ground Metro Line 1 which could also go under the sound and service stops on the No Problem Atoll, or the old part of your city build.

Of course you want to provide you cims with a nicer experience than the London Underground 😂

    Suggestions for the metro: 1 - On the long lines add bypass or parallel stations and a parallel tunnel each line to handle express and local traffic. 2 - At Tearantula Station connect up lines that stop opposite each other so that there is one continuous line from tunnel end to tunnel end. 3 - Put in a reverse direction loop at each end so each line instead of running parallel point to point trains the engine will run the line as a continuous loop.

    rebuild the train lines, you say? Single track flyovers at junctions! So the train paths on the up and the down lines don't come into conflict. i.e. like on real lines that get busy. This is basically what all the ramps are for the motorway interchanges. Same principles hold for rail lines.

    Biffa, I believe the line from Glass Box terminal needs to be a loop, and continue from No Problem Atoll and head North to HMP GuilTea (with or without stop) then to Earl Grey Gardens and onward to Green Tea Park, then loop back to Glass Box and make it to a circle, it'll help with CW and CCW line. You could then use the vacant line for Westward expansions.

    Biffa, Love the series! That metro line is super long, I think it would be a great candidate for a 4 track metro and express lines. Make lines that don't stop at every station. For instance, one that bypasses the stations on the mainland from tearantula and goes straight to the busiest stations on the outlying islands only, then have a local line that services from tearantula to all the mainland stations, finally one that is a local (stops at every stop) on just the outlying islands.

  • @williamhuang8309

    @williamhuang8309

    2 жыл бұрын

    Unfortunately, Biffa does not have 4-track metro assets- those require Metro Overhaul Mod. There's no problem with having extremely long lines, but if you do, you'll need to have many transfer opportunities all over the city in order for them to be efficient. The main problem here is not the significant overcrowding issue- that stems from a deeper problem, and it comes as part of poor network planning choices. Biffa's metro system is a hub-and-spoke system, providing few transfer opportunities outside of the busy downtown core. This causes a problem where the passengers travelling from outer suburbs to other areas will need to go through the downtown transit hub. If the train fills up outside of the main hub, in the distant areas of the city, and the train approaches a busy downtown station, the train will not allow many more passengers on board, as it is already full, and because there are few transfer opportunities outside of the main hub, few people will get off. This means the stations close to the hub require an exorbitant number of vehicles to keep the metro line from filling up. This is a fundamental transit planning problem that can't be fixed simply by building more lines- the fundamental problem is still there, and will come to bite you back on other routes or later in the series. While express routes can help to an extent, they only work effectively if you have busy stations separated by some not-so-busy stations. In Biffa's case, all the stations are busy. This problem of bad route planning is exacerbated by Biffa's choice of metro stations, with the Metro Plaza station incentivising the use of inefficient hub-and-spoke systems that cause problems.

    The Tea-rantula Station hub forces transfers since most if not all lines terminate there, leading to congestion. The line to the barrier islands is already long but can handle additional traffic if it was extended one station beyond the hub (in the opposite direction). At the hub there is only capacity for a single vehicle along that that line at a time. Having a metro running both ways through the hub can facilitate disembarkation and embarkation on both sides at the same time increasing your cycle time. This is especially important with high (vehicle) capacity lines since terminal stations tend to take longer to get a metro in and out. A second (more costly) option is to run a second line parallel to the first with fewer stops (street crossing for transfers). The submerged bypass stations would work but take up additional space that may not be available on the island(s). Unless there's a good way to manage local and express on the same line it would only lead to more congestion. But... you could set up two lines on the same track and have two types of stations: 3 platform services all, bypass for local only. That however does not solve your congestion problem at Tea-rantula Station unless the express and local have different points of origin there.

    It probably won't be half a km long, 9-car Crossrail/Elizabeth Line trains in London are at max 250m long, so a 7 or 6-car metro shouldn't be much longer than 200m.

    Hey Biffa! Checked your previous New Tealand video (the one with yet again train collapse). The problem with trains stopping on turns and blocking way is tied with nodes. Nodes on tracks work as a train signal. So if train cannot occupy next block between nodes, it will stop before the node point and it’s tail will block the road. Try to move nodes further from train crossroads

    Concerning point to point, why not put in an express substation going from Tearantula to Teasney World and No Problem Atoll? There comes a point where you may have just too many stops for a line to safely handle itself and Tea > Maple may be at it's limit. I'd recommend taking another metro line from the Glass Box station and the Tearantula hub over beyond EnTeatainment Island and hooking it to a Metro-Monorail-Train hub and connecting that across the other islands by both monorail and train short paths. The main metro would be a 3 stop setup CW and CCW going Glass Box > Tearantula > MMT. At MMT, they could switch to either monorail or just a local back and forth passenger train.

    Biffa, your last New Tealand video I had commented, there's a mod where you can increase your public transit capacity. If you ask Phil(City Planner), he should be able to tell you the name of the mod. He used for his Clearwater series to make sure only a certain type of police and postal vehicles spawned. But in that mod, there are options if you click the public transit stuff where you can increase your capacity.

    You should make a shopping district where the front entrances to the shops are only accessible by walking and biking. All the traffic would be from the back alleys with the building spawn point. Still think a golf course on the back of the island, like Pebble Beach, would be awesome.

    Use an asset, the in game metro is weak, From an article describing NYC metros: Trains like this have no barriers between cars, but each “car” can comfortably hold about 200 people There are eight cars on most trains, so each train can carry about 1,600 people at a time. That’s not unusual when leaving a major transfer point.

  • @supernalboot

    if you wanted to keep the vanilla trains I think you need to shorten the entire line for the metro, by the time it goes from one side to the other the other side has completely filled up hence starting an endless cycle, I reckon maybe doing an express line from the glass box to the first and second stations on the island maybe even third as well, and then doing a line from that third station onwards. That way you will have two separate lines doing the same distance at a much higher interval since you can have (for example) 64 trains on the first line and another 64 on the other

  • @psychoedge
    @psychoedge2 жыл бұрын

    The big metro trains you used are actually a bit more realistic. Metro trains in big cities like Paris, Berlin or Moscow have an average of 150-300 seats and can fit up to 2-3x as much if the passengers are standing tightly packed. Good choice. I'd also like to point out that if you keep adding longer and longer metro lines people will use those over the existing train lines (as distance to the next metro station is often shorter than to next train station) which also mixes long-distance and short-distance travelers which resulted in your massive metro use. I'd advise you to keep the metro lines short to make the train network more attractive for longer distances and alleviate load in the metro lines.

Hope that helped

    Biffa, the answer to your metro problems are that you encouraged people from the islands onto your metro by extending an existing suburban line. They need a dedicated collector line on the islands to connect to a dedicated shuttle across the water (that should really be a train rather than a metro). You mastered lane mathematics, it's time to master public transport hierarchy!

    having completely perfect metro systems can be a pain in the back side with your map design. Usually, each area would have a complete circular tunnel with a clockwise and counter clockwise direction along with a massive one that goes around the entire city. However, it would look like a rats nest of tunnels if you were going to attempt to do that on your specific map. The reason why you use the circular design instead of a straight path is the same reason you use round-a-bouts, it keeps the metro moving. The reason your cars weren't spreading out is because they'd hit the end of the line and then have to wait for one to get out of the way before the next one can pull in and drop/pick up it's passengers. PS: transit can make you money, but usually it's by increasing employment, tourism, and service use.
