    This tutorial is quite helpful because most of the KZread tutorials on wrap-and-turn techniques are done using stockinette stitch samples instead of garter stitch samples. There's a difference between working wrap-and-turns on stockinette and working them on garter stitching. A lot of knitters have been making the Half+Half Triangles Wrap featured by Purl Soho over the last couple of years, and that pattern is worked in all garter stitch but also has some wrap-and-turns. This video helped me see exactly how to work the wrap-and-turns on my Half+Half Triangles Wrap.

    NOW...! FINALLY...! I have seriously embedded this wonderfully explained video in my brain...!!! I knit almost everything simple, as for babies or children, in garter stitch and was, most of the time, confused as of when or how it looks or whatever...! Thank you so very much...

    I appreciate this video so much. My confusion comes in creating short rows to make wedges for coasters or dishcloths. For example, if I cast on 8 and then am instructed to only knit the first 7 stitches and turn and knit back, what stitches would I be wrapping? The pattern does not call for wrap and turn, but the loose holes are so obvious.

    I'm so glad you found it helpful! In regards to your question about the coaster pattern, I'm thinking they are using the German short row technique because in that technique, you don't slip and wrap a stitch - you just turn the work and then slip a stitch and then tug the yarn up and over the needle. It sounds complicated but it's quite easy - I don't have a video for it yet (hopefully soon!) but here's a good video from Purl Soho you can check out: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k2eHm8WlZJq2ido.html - I hope this helps! :)

    I am working on a pattern now where those holes are described as "decorative"--a feature, not a bug. After I have knit back a couple of rows the holes are not as enormous as they seem at first. But I still have my doubts . . .

    are all short row patterns knit on double pointed needles?

  • @ElizabethSmithKnits

    @ElizabethSmithKnits

    Short rows can be worked on any type of needle - I tend to knit them the most on circulars (working back and forth). Another video that might be helpful to see is this one where I work short rows in a sweater for shoulder shaping (this is my most common use for short rows). I hope it help! kzread.info/dash/bejne/e2WfrtquYcenqco.html

  • @ElizabethSmithKnits

    I'm so sorry but I'm not familiar with the ten stitch blanket (it must be someone else's design), so I'm not sure I can be much help! That pattern may have you work your short rows differently depending on the stitch pattern used.
