Sometimes you drop a stitch when you are knitting garter stitch. And then your project unravels. Sometimes only one stitch, but often several rows. So, here's how to fix that mistake.
You will need a crochet hook and something to secure the stitch (like a stitch marker or a spare needle or even a safety pin).
And then you need to identify if the stitch is on the wrong side or right side row.
If it has a purl bump at its base, the next stitch you need to create needs to be a knit stitch. And if it has a little "v" at its base you need to recreate a purl stitch.
Step 1: go into the purl stitch from the front with your crochet hook, and pull through the next strand connecting two stitches one row above.
Step 2: Next, remove the crochet hook, bring the next strand one row above to the front, insert the crochet hook from behind, and pull the strand in the front through.
Repeat these two steps until you reached the current row and fixed all dropped stitches in your garter stitch knitting pattern.

Awesome tutorial, easy to follow and just the right speed. Also I love your voice, so calm and clear. Thank you 😊
This was a lifesaver. I'm more than halfway into a baby blanket and in the past I've always frogged projects when I've noticed dropped stitches before. Can't even tell it happened now! Thanks!
Absolutely brilliant demonstration. Saved me re-kintting 8 rows. Thank you.
Thank you for the perfectly clear explanation. I fixed my dropped garter stitches while I was watching the video. You saved me a lot of time unknitting and reknitting!
Always on the mark! Such simple well explained and demonstrated problem solver. Thank you🎉❤❤❤😊
An actual lifesaver 😭 thank you!
I wish I had seen this tutorial before attempting the half-and-half, triangular wrap. I frogged that thing three times. Once again, Norman, you are the best. Love from a grateful Patron.

oh wow...thank you so much for your kind feedback!
That was SO helpful, Norman! I had not one, but two dropped stitches side-by-side, four rows down, and this video helped me a ton!
Thank you for your video, it is easy to follow with a great explanation.
I used this tip the other night to fix an error in garter stitch and it worked perfectly, thanks!
What a legend. I’ve always backed my way out of the problem in the past, but I’m working on a blanket and just dropped a stitch down a few rows and the idea of working my way back was daunting. This worked like a charm and I’m glad to know how to do this now.
Faffed around for over an hour before referring to this video. 2 problem stitches in 366! Resolved in 3 minutes. Thank you ❤❤❤ Your calming voice & explanation made it work for me. It's so frustrating when you know what to do but can't 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great explanation! I watched several different videos on this topic and yours was by far the best. I finally understand how to do this now. Thank you!

awesome. glad my video worked so well for you!
Thank you for sharing how to fix this type of garter stitch. I’m new to knitting and this is my first project. Easy to follow and very clear. Thanks again 😅 🙏
Perfect explanation. My problem is a garter stitch border. Absent-mindedly purling when I see the bump that should be knitted. Then not noticing for 4 rows.Thank you
I love how simply you demonstrated this. Thank you so much! ♥️
Thank you so much, you're a lifesaver.
Once again Norman saves me from full panic mode. 🙂 Perhaps you can do a video on using a stitch fix tool for those of us prone to dropping the loop switching between knits and purls for garter stitch dropped stitches.
Thank you again! You are quite an efficient teacher. 😊
Thank you Norman 🙏💞
thank you so very much Norman - clear and consice - a total life-saver, much appreciated
Thank you so much! Your directions and video were so clear I was able to follow along easily.

You’re always there to save my projects. I really can’t tell you how much your channel helped me to improve my results! I’d really like to see an video in the future on how to fix a dropped stitch in brioche or fisherman’s rib. I really couldn’t find any satisfying content on those stitches. Thank you for your content, your channel is always by my side!

i am not sure I understand your question. There seems to be some sort of typo there.
I am saving this video. I have just gotten drop stitch that I did not notice and created a hole. And I repeated my work twice.

@@nimbleneedlestwo i have!! This is so helpful! This helped me understand the stitches too!
Hello Norman! I couldn't find it so I will ask here, do you have a video on reparining holes in older finished projects? If not, it would be great to learn from you how to do it, it you know! Thank you kindly, and great content!!!

I do not have that yet. But indeed, I will put darning on my list :)
How can I secure the stitch if it far too late to add back to my needle? Please help
Hi Norman, I am pretty sure I just dropped a stitch, but I can't tell. I don't think it really looks like any of the videos on dropped stitches, and yet I can see the spot where there is clearly a mistake, and I clearly have one stitch less on my needles than I started with. Do you have any suggestions for an absolute beginner to help identify mistakes?
@nimbleneedlestwo
Жыл бұрын
well, if you dropped a stitch you should have one less stitch on your needles than you cast-on
How do I know which size needles to use with a non labeled yarn. I don’t see or hear teachers mention the type of yarn and size of needles used while demonstrating. I have ADHD and know type of yarn for kitchen scrubbers, thick knitting scarves and baby blankets it would help if y’all mentioned those 2 things for us. Thank you

I did this on my fingering weight socks, tiny yarn and tight tension. 😩

not sure I understand you? this video is about dropped stitches... that always implies a stitch. so you mean rather just a loose loop or so?
There are more tutorials on my second profile here 😊
