Hi everyone! Something I also do is heat up the plate in the microwave for ~30 seconds (JUST the clean, empty plate alone) to make the surface of it warm before putting the food on. This helps a lot and I recommend it in addition to the water, to ensure the food is at least room temperature or even slightly warm WHILE staying raw. For those asking, this does NOT cook the food as that would defeat the purpose.. It just warms it up from being fridge-chilled ;) Also, remember to check out my cat stuff playlist for a ton more videos (including one actually using the scale I talk about here because I bought a new one! Yay!) I hope these videos help and thank you so much for watching 😻

I freeze the food in glass jars. I feed 3 cats twice a day, so I use a 2-cup Pyrex measuring cup with a handle to measure the amount my cats will eat in one meal, which is about 3 ounces each. I immerse the whole measuring cup in a saucepan with 2 inches of warm tap water, heat the water to boiling and stir the food until it's slightly above room temperature. This takes about 2 or 3 minutes and works great when the food is still slightly frozen, too. The pyrex cup washes up quickly and I've used absolutely no plastic.

Your idea sounds great. I plan on freezing the raw food in 4oz Ball canning jars and maybe just immerse the jar in the boiling water, although I also like the idea of adding warm water to the food as cats need all the water they can get, especially my cat who's had urinary issues.

Hi! Just came across your video, I am a bottle feeder for kittens w/ a westchester co,NY cat rescue. My husband & i have spend a lot of money on trying to feed our fosters the best food(While saving the rescue group money in buying Friskies cans). My husband has made several attempts making homemade food for our fosters, They seems to tire out on the cooked food (chicken livers, hearts etc), do not take too nice on his food :(. So he put me to search for recipes He can make for them. Then I found you. Your videos are very well done, nothing difficult,-wanna thank you for that. Have passed it on to my husband to check out, Thank you for caring to do the best for your baby & for those who care about felines. Also funny thing I have a foster kitty, 1 1/2 years old that recently returned to us. The same markings & color of Puppy -amazing! My foster kitty’s name is lovely. Shalom.

I sandwich a damp washcloth between two plates and nuke it for about 50 secs. The top plate is now a warming plate. Just put the food on the top plate and stir it around. The warm cloth underneath keeps the top plate from getting cold too quickly and you can usually get the food close to room temperature this way without fussing with boiling water, and much quicker than floating a container of food in warm water. It's the quickest method I've found, yet.

Only one problem with the micro-whacker. The microwave 'supposedly' destroys all the vitamin supplements and also renders most of the trace elements useless. Adding hot water, or soaking in warm water is much better.

Hi there! I think he was saying he just warms up the empty plates in the microwave without the food on them. And then, place the cold food on the warmed up plates to allow the food to warm up that way after it is mixed around a bit. Hope that clarifies! :) (I agree microwaves kind of suck as a means to heat up actual food). And thanks for watching!!

another thing to try (though it is more work like you said) is using reusable ziploc bags! my little girl has FIV so she gets goats milk and an immunity booster as a hydrator with each meal instead of water so she has her own little baggie at my house that i use. i have a silicone ice tray that i use to portion out her goats milk and immunity booster in the freezer so i throw one of those cubes in and her food from the fridge and in 4 minutes while i just get everything put away and cleaned it’s ready to go!

Thank you for the tips! It was super cute that your cat kept trying to start the meal before the filming was over LOL Did you prepare the food and keep it in the freezer? How do you defrost it every time? I am trying to help my cats transition to a raw diet but they don't seem interested. They'd refuse to eat or just lick off the tuna paste (i used to make the new diet more tempting but to no avail) and leave the rest untouched.

Hi, thank u for your video and i've subbed! I was wondering if pouring hot water onto the food would degrade the taurine, vit B, vit E and the salmon oil you've put in? I am new to making my own cat's food and chose to make it cooked as a start. I've not bought all the vitamins yet and am fretting over how to warm up the food with them mixed into the food later. Right now, without vitamins mixed in, I've done the same as you, pouring hot water over the food. Thank u so much!

Tip that might work better for some cats. I used to warm up my cat’s raw food like this, but then I moved and didn’t have that electric kettle anymore. Apartment came with a microwave, which I’m not a huge fan of, but has become handy when warming up food. Since transitioning my cat to raw food I’ve had to entice her with dried salmon treats on top. I recently discovered that if I warm up the food more than I had before she eats it without the salmon! I pour a little bit of water on the food, place in microwave for 6 seconds, mix, 6 more seconds, mix and 4 or 5 more seconds. Doing it in intervals like this and mixing it keeps it from cooking and it warms it up nicely to where she doesn’t wait for the treats and leaves the plate cleaner than she used to. I recommend this for cats that might be ignoring the raw food or maybe leaving some behind.

Can you do a video of how to make smaller batches or what to do if you don't have fridge or freezer space to store batches of raw food? My fridge does not stay colder than 40 degrees so things spoil pretty fast. Overnight is the longest something will stay good. My freezer in turn regularly gets to thawing temperature before it freezes everything so I deal with a lot of either freezer burn or frost crystals that form from the moisture of a just barely thawed freezer. I could maybe freeze it in portions, but I also have very limited space. It's an RV fridge. What are your feelings on the raw food sellers?

Question: If you serve the raw cat food in a metal bowl, couldn't you just put the metal bowl in warm/hot water (obiously not to the point where it pours over the bowl's edge) and just let it sit for a while? Should simmulate the plastic bag, without the waste. Might work with a ceramic bowl aswell but I imagine that would take longer as the bowl wouldn't heat up as fast... Or if you have a ceramic bowl, would an option be to put hot/boiling water in the bowl, let the bowl get hot, put the food in, and basically let the food heat while the bowl cools?

I add water to my cats raw food anyway. Smart to use a hot water pot. My cat doesn’t seem to care if the food is warm or cold. Lol. She just loves her food. But I did add hot water one time cuz the food was still slightly frozen. My cats food plates are old saucers who’s cup broke from my moms cupboards. Does cats can have salmonella or something eating raw food? I think there is raw chicken in there. One of my cats had a urinary infection and my vet told me to give him (so, them! lol) Prescription Diet Urinary Care but he regurgitate a lot more (like 1 time per week at least). Not sure if it's because of the food or because he eats too fast. He's a pork.

Dida Kingston, you can add raw egg shells. Collect them for several days, let them dry out in a paper bag so they don't accumulate moisture & get rotten, or put them in a very low oven to dry for maybe 20-30 minutes, then grind them in a coffee grinder.

Transition to canned first, if he's not eating that already. Then mix a bit (a TINY bit) of ground raw in with it. Increase the amount of raw over a couple weeks. That's not the only way to do it, but that's how I transitioned my picky cat.

cats don't need vegetables or fruits, raw meat alone won't cut it, i suggest you go to catinfo.org blog to read the full recipe (someone pointed out above that 80% raw meat + 10% uncooked bone + 10% organs = 100% balanced diet) I'm personally feeding my cat raw muscle meat mixed with Raw Meow Mix powder, you can check out pre-mix packages like TC Feline as well if grinding meat is too much of a hassle for your furry buddy!

I love your vids, Jasmine, but this one is too problematic. Pouring boiling, or even very warm, water directly onto the raw is going to cook the food, and will also not be adequate to warm it. It seems Puppy has got used to this, but it's not a method to share with others. There are great tips in comments for warming the raw, and putting the plate over a "water bath" of very hot water would be the way to go, as it would warm from underneath. Also Puppy needs feeding 3x a day -- 2 x 4oz meals is not enough!

I do the same for canned wet food (grain free, low carb and meat-based) right now. Then I'm transitioning my cats to raw food. They've forever been having kibble and after the death of my 11 year old cat due to kidney failure, my research led me to raw cat food as the healthiest best food for them.

Great video. I understand that cats may eat different amounts from day to day. Gorge themselves one day then not eat as much the next day.....so..... after you warm up the food, feed your cat and there are leftovers, can you put back in the fridge and use later? Of will the cat not like the reheated food. Thanks.

  • @CatLadyFitness

    @CatLadyFitness

Hi 96150coconut! I would suggest against keeping and re-feeding any prepared or served raw food, simply to avoid any chance of introducing bacteria to it. If your cat's appetite fluctuates that greatly, try using the portion calculator on CatLadyFitness.com and going with the lower recommended percentage and then monitor your cats weight and behavior to see if he/she maintains an ideal weight (and finishes each meal). You can adjust the serving size or even feeding frequency from there :) hope that helps!

Yes that helped and thanks for the quick response. I learned from your great videos that I have been doing it wrong all this time. I would put out a lot of food in the morning, what she didn't eat I would put back in the fridge, then when she looked hungry again I would take it beck out. I would do this like 6 times a day. (definitely controlled by my little girl...lol) not to mentioned I didn't heat the food up. So this morning for the first time, I put the correct portion for her in her shallow bowl/plate, stirred in hot water and set it down. She ate the whole thing in 2 min, looked up at me, gave my a wink then went out to play. Actually watching more of your vids as we speak. So thanks again for your great and helpful site. Back to viewing. Steve

The ONLY way my cat will eat is if I water down her food.... I never had a cat like this one before! And then she sleeps in a sunny location resting instead of running around crazy like. I am just beginning to understand her because I've only had her since Christmas... not even 2 months. She is 6 months old my vet decided. She came already named Pickles and I kept the name but, I call her Momma Pickles because she looks like a boy cat but, she is VERY lady like and I felt bad to have her spayed but, I did it anyway rather than deal with her when she went into heat.
