Homemade Raw Cat Food Recipe - Bulk Batch - That I've Been Feeding The Cats

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This is the homemade raw cat food recipe that I've been feeding to the cats. I like to use mostly whole food ingredients. Sometimes I change it up a little bit by using different chicken parts or whole chickens or some turkey or rabbit. The supplements mostly stay the same but vary in quantity based on the amount of meat.
The meat grinder that I use is the Weston Butcher Series # 12. On Amazon here: amzn.to/2VhSlCx

    I’ve done research and found out that drumsticks and thighs have a good meat to bone ratio. Chicken wings are too high bone to meat and obviously boneless meats have no bones. So if I add some boneless breast meat, I’ll add some wings to compensate. I don’t feed the cats beef or pork. I prefer to feed meats that are closer to something they would eat in nature.

    One day I'll try to make food for my little family. One thing about that bentonite...please be very careful when opening, closing and stiring the dry bentonite. It's really awful stuff to breathe in...awful for your lungs...it remains suspended in the air for quite a bit. You're not exposing yourself to too much of it, but when handling it as an artist (its often used in pottery) I use a full respirator mask.

    I put those in for an added boost of nutrition and to mimic the diet of the cats when they were living outside in nature. They would often eat grass and still love to eat fresh cat grass on a regular basis. Unfortunately, I don't grow it for them as much as they would like me to, so I supplement it with powdered grass in their food. You can substitute with B Complex capsules. I don't remember if I had included B Complex capsules in this video or not. I would include about 300 - 400 mg instead of the grasses. Here is the link to where I buy the Amazing Trio - amzn.to/3uS0ATZ And here is the link to Alfalfa - amzn.to/3kF2J0V Hope that helps. I change up the recipe slightly just about every time that I make raw food for the cats. This video merely documented what I was doing at the time.

    I'm sure that the Lady has already found ways to optimize the procedure, say, by storing most dry, canned or bottled ingredients together near the commonly-used tools (grinder, bullet blender, aluminum pans & trays, bowls, spatulas, etc.). Once the ingredients have been acquired, the procedure as documented appears to flow easily and logically; exclusive of clean-up (which might take some time with the grinder, I'd wager), the process appears to take maybe a couple of hours or so.

    Very interesting! Do you use some kind of raw food calculator, to be exactly sure to what numbers of nutritional values all those ingredients sum up to? Some of the ingredients may deliver the same nutrients or minerals as others, and I always wonder, how to be sure not to oversupplement anything. Even if the excess of a certain supplement/nutrient gets peed out, it 'd still stress out the kidneys or the liver to a certain amount, right? Also: How do you now, if the calcium/phosphorus rate is correct?

    When my cats were feral cats living outside, they would sometimes kill prey and hide it or bury it to eat a day or two later. They never got sick from that. If the food goes bad, they won’t eat it. Cats are very smart. Also, as obligate carnivores, they have very different digestive systems than humans.

  • @katwilliams2950

    @katwilliams2950

    I had the same question and you inspired me to try to calculate it. I'm approximating that it's around 200-400 to buy everything at once depending on when and prices where you live. But a lot of the items will be used for a long time. So maybe 30-50 per batch. Since you have 2 cats it'll be 1 month with of food feeding 1½-2 scoops twice a day. (She said in another post for 1 cat it would last 2 months). So about 1.70 per day for 2 cats if it cost you $50 to make that batch.... but I think you don't really have to do it exactly like they did it. If you grow your own stuff, catch sales, or exclude some things/swap out certain things by using fresh, or bulk stuff that you process your self (like the alfalfa for example) especially if you live in a more remote or high cost of living area it can be more reasonable..... I wish they would have broke down prices and given product sizes so we could approximate how much it would cost better. I hope this helps some...

  • @LuckyFerals

    @LuckyFerals

    Hi, I don't know how much it costs me per month because the prices vary every month. I try to buy the poultry/meat when it's on sale or when I see a good deal. I also vary the ingredients each month - sometimes all chicken, sometimes I add turkey, sometimes rabbit, etc. What I do know is that it costs me half of what I would be paying if I was buying commercially made raw food for the cats at $22 - $42 for a 3 pound bag which comes out to be around $7-$14 a pound. It also gives me the convenience and freedom of not having to rely on local store inventory since I'm now feeding 5 cats and none of the stores carry the amount of raw food that I need, so It saves me all of the time that I used to run around from store to store trying to buy raw food. Hope that helps. :)

  • @LuckyFerals

    @kat williams Hi, There's no way to give price breakdowns since prices vary all of the time. Also, I think I mentioned in this video that I change up the recipe every time that I make food for the cats. So the ingredients are varying also. This video was posted about 2.5 years ago so prices have certainly changed since then. Like you said, catching sales helps, growing some of your own ingredients helps, buying in bulk helps. All costs are variable. The biggest expense is the meat grinder.

    If you're on friendly terms with your neighbor, why not ask to borrow her meat grinder? If she has any kittehs, you might make enough to give her some by way of thanks, or pawsibly create something beautiful for her (like that fantastic apron you made for the Lady and for Grandma Feral, say) in return. If you do make a batch, let us know how your charming boy Marty likes it (and hug him for me, of course).

Where would I get them shipped to me frozen?

    Bentonite clay is literally kitty litter. You can ditch the kelp barley grass wheat grass and alfalfa. Cats are obligate carnivores. They do not eat vegetables at all. The only reason to give cats pumpkin puree is to stop them from regurgitating hairballs.

    Cats living in nature eat plants and grasses. Anyone who has spent any time actually observing cats living in the wild knows that. It’s not a large percentage of their diet but it is an important supplement.

    If you aren’t willing to take an hour out of your day for the well being of your animal you shouldn’t have one. It’s one thing to not be able to afford a higher quaility diet but it’s another thing to just be flat out lazy.

    Hmm, Alfalfa, Buckwheat...well, this batch is going to feed "Our Gang" of extraordinary kittehs, I suppose, if you were going there. 😉🐱🐈👑😺😸🐱🍲 As for buckwheat, Splash did confess to me a craving for _soba_ recently -- and who knew that Splashie was a Nipponophile? (Maybe I should have expected his Crunchyroll queue to be filled with episodes of _My Roommate Is A Cat,_ at that...😉😺🗻) As for the pumpkin content causing the kittehs to jump all over each other, I confess that I draw a blank -- but they will surely not be hurting for Vitamin A, sure.

    Cats are carnivores. They should only eat meat. It's better to just let them eat a chicken wing or leg. Or a small whole fish. Feeding them a more natural diet. Not over processed "cat food".

  • @LuckyFerals

    @LuckyFerals

    3 жыл бұрын

    Feeding a cat a chicken wing or a leg does NOT provide complete nutrition for a cat. In nature, cats eat entire animals from nose to tail including fur or feathers, brain, organs, digestive tract, bones, etc. They also consume vegetable matter in the form of grasses and plant leaves as well as any vegetable matter in the digestive tract of their prey. A complete raw cat food that provides as much nutrition as whole raw prey is preferable.

    You are wasting money on vegetable crap that will probably end up giving your cat kidney stones.

  • @LuckyFerals

    Vegetable matter never causes kidney stones because it is alkaline. Acids are what cause kidney stones.
