I have many knives and am not sure what angle I should use to sharpen them especially my Damascus steel Japanese kitchen knives - any suggestions I sure would appreciate some advice 👍🏻

Can you clarify why is it that you need to ZERO on the rod first. It appears to me ,although the angle difference between the rod and the base unit will be set correctly But since the rod from the zeroed position is already off or at an angle to the center of the blade the angle set by angle gauge will only translate this error Or am I missing something. I would probably do the reserve by zeroing the angle gauge on the base unit first since it appears to always be in sync with the center of the blade and then set the angle on the rod.

Hi, one thing looks strange to me and nobody talks about that: when you zero your angle on the rod resting on the blade’s edge, after adjusting the angle by moving the clamping part up or down, since it moves the blade, your zero should change, at least a little bit. Nobody’s checking the zero after that step to see whether it changed actually significantly or marginally?

It does stay zero. I sharpened 5 knives tonight all to 15 degrees and checked angle on each one individually and it came back to zero after setting the angle. But I understand your hesitation because it didn’t make sense to me either.

How do you determine desired angle using digital computer? I understand using a sharpie and finding the existing blade angle. Is there a table for knowing desired angle.

Looks like the pivot point was not setup to compensate for the thickness of the sharpening stone?

The purpose of the video is to demonstrate the angle set-up not the thickness compensator. The angle was set based on the stone in the stone holder. You can preset the compensator if you are using stones of different thicknesses.

Hello from TikTok! Do you have a video on how to set the angle using the Hapstone V8? I've been setting the zero on the "wings" of the mounting bracket and finding my angle on the rod. I'm not sure if that's correct because I'm not quite getting the results I'd like.

None of these videos explain this... when you put the angle cube on the Rod to ZERO it, where does the rod have to be? Does it matter? Where does the Kadet angle itself need to be set when you do this? Do you not use the thickess compensator either?

Hey Carl. I set the angle with the stone resting on the middle of the system for easy consistency. The stone can be at any part on the blade as the angle should change to much. I prefer the angle gauge over the compensator when using more than 2 stones.

@@zanvak Gotcha. So after every stone change you would repeat the zero procedure? That is, if you dont want to use the angle compensator

@@Teleman01 yes correct. This will give the most accuracy when Sharpening
