How To Sing Simple Harmonies

This is a SING ALONG video for the most part to help teach you how to sing simple harmonies. Using split screen and stereo separation I make it easy for you to pick out the harmonies from the melodies and sing along. This is a preview to a full course I am putting together on how to sing harmonies that will be up on https:www.singingfromscratch.com soon.

So few comments but good information. I sing lead in Barbershop. We do something similar where we sing 1,2,3,45,6,7,8.our director then gets the Baries to keep repeating the same pitch on the 3or 5 while we keep going up and down the scales, can be very effective in catching overtones.

Its possible that I will get in to niche genres. But first I'm going to do a harmonies course. However I do have a video here on my channel on How To Sing The Blues In 5 Minutes.

Absolutely. Sing the 3rd or 5th below. Scales are not finite. And they are not only above the note you are singing. Without getting too technical or taking 3rds or 5ths into account, the easiest way to think of this is if you are singing A, there is a B, C, D, E, F, and G above you. Conversley, there is a G, F, E, D, C, and B below with infinite connections on either end of those. That is a major oversimplificatin, but you get the idea. There's a mathematical reason why harmonites work, but that's for another discussion.

Hey Julian, Well for example in the song Trust, you want to sing with mostly Nose and Mouth Voice. That's where the bulk of the resonance is. Then the Shaping is more focused and shaped around ooohs and uuhhs not matter what the words are. And avoid completely pronouncing the consonants of the words your are singing. Other than that practice your transition notes, aka runs. To learn more about what I'm talking about, go here and take this course courses.singingfromscratch.com/courses/singing-from-scratch-advanced
