    After decades, I've been awkwardly making music again. Your topic gave immediate Focus to a musical sense dulled by decades singing at the speakers in my car. While I have never forgotten the structure of the musical measure, 3/4 vs. 4/4 Etc I had forgotten the *musical rest* as like the mathematical Factor that completes the meter, maintaining the integrity of each measure and thereby the entire musical element. Hey man , I saw your 3 lessons and I am really planning to do some work with that now. I am good in singing but I have issues singing in time and a lot of other people have suggested me to work a lot with metronome, I saw you didn't mention that much , what do you think about it ? Btw I really like how simple you explain things ...thankss

  • @singingfromscratch_official

    @singingfromscratch_official

    6 ай бұрын

    Sorry for the delay, but a metronome can help, but only with establishing a tempo. Really, it's about the math. Feeling the math. I know that sounds weird, but it fits.

  • @heathersundean2939
    @heathersundean29392 жыл бұрын

    Would you consider doing a series on keeping good time while playing and singing simultaneously? My timing is fine if I do one thing or the other, but songs that have a different rhythm between the vocals and the strumming really throw me off. For example, I learned a song where the vocal comes in on the fourth beat every time, but the chord change happens on the first beat. It took me forever to get it right, and I have the same problem over and over with different songs!

  • @singingfromscratch_official

    @singingfromscratch_official

    2 жыл бұрын

    I hadn't actually, but that is good idea. The core secret or hack to the problem though is basic. Don't think of the two separately, singing and playing. Have you ever sung along with a song and in between phrases, sing the instruments melody? One of the biggest examples would be Sweet Caroline. 'Sweet Caroline - bah bah bah'. Do the same when you play. Sing your guitar part when you aren't singing the song and the two will meld into one in you mind and you will get the timing. Try that.

    One thing that I don't get is how one distinguishes a tempo that is 1234 vs 123. From a counting point of view one can do 123 on a 1234. If the whole song is 1 minute we will have 20 123 sets and 15 1234 sets without any loss of counting. Could you highlight what it is I am missing

  • @singingfromscratch_official

    @singingfromscratch_official

    10 ай бұрын

    You're getting too imersed in the math of it. It's not about the math. It's about the feel. It'a about rythm. Forget the whole song. Do this. Stand up and count 1234. Every time you say "one" step to the left then to the right on every time you say "one". Then when you have done that for a bit, count 123. On the one step forward and backward. Forward the first time you say one, then backward when you say one. Keep doing that in sequence. Incidentally, if you do that and you put your arms out in front of you, someone might step in and you would automatically be waltzing lol!

    Nope. It can be 1,2,3 as in a waltz like Take It To The Limit by the Eagles. Listen to Addicted To Love by Robert Palmer. The bass drum is hitting on 1 and 3. The snare is hitting on 2 and 4. In the Eagles tune the bass drum is only hitting on 1.
