Life saving instructions for a hard reset! Thank you!

Thanks! I was having the paper jam error, even though there was no paper, or pieces of paper in the printer. It was BRAND NEW.. a semi-full reset did the trick once I got in to the support menu. Thank you!

Thanks, just saved me getting a new printer. Had the same error happen a couple years ago on another HP printer, couldn't resolve it, and ended up replacing the printer with a Canon laser printer. Same error today (won't shut down, says there's a printer system error), thought it was dead. Nope. Did a full reset, and it's back to life. Thanks again.

Thank you for this video. A partial reset fixed the issue of not making copy from the glass, although the Auto Doc Feeder did copy. Thank you again.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS..I WAS HAVING PRINTER ALIGNMENT ISSUES..ALL OF HP SUPPORT/TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDELINES WOULD NOT FIX IT...BY DOING A SEMI-RESET , IT FIXED THE ISSUE !!!!

Dude !!! Thank you so much !!! My stupid HP6978 updated firmware blocked my non-HP ink. This reset fixed my problem. If anyone does this same procedure make sure to not allow any updates & do not let HP gather any data.

Hey, so I have the same printer and the semi reset didn't resolve this issue for me. Did you folllow the video instructions or did you do the hard reset?

Didn't work, at first stated had paper jam but I found no paper. Printer cartridge making a lot a noise and won't print alignment page after doing your reset. Any suggestions?

Hello doing the semi reset will that help with being able to use non Hp ink cartridges? I had done an update on my printer a while back and when I went to change my cartridge with one I’ve purchased on Amazon, which is not an HP. It keeps saying no chip detected. Any help would be extremely appreciated. I’ve been working on this for days

just cleared a paper jam and removed the paper feed/roller/ but I am unable to hook it back in. Sometimes it falls right in real easy, sometimes it gives me such a hard time, only because I do not really know how it fits in. Can you please help?

My issue has been that every time I print or every other time it wants to do maintenance which is stupid. Would a reset help with that?

Restoring to factory default worked for me...i'm surprised at how bad HP's software is...it causes so many bugs/errors

My printer was working fine until it had a message indicating the black ink was low and needed replacing . I replaced with a genuine Hp cartridge and it still did not print black . I also tried unplugging the power outlet for a while and plugged it in again and still it did not work. The replacement cartridge was well within the expiry date. I opened the printer and removed the printhead and thoroughly cleaned it. What I would like to know, can HP remotely disable my printer from working. If the problem is a failed printhead, I can easily replace it with a new one that I have sourced. However, I am reluctant to do so and still not solve the problem if HP can shut down my printer at will. This will be the first and last HP printer I ever own. The printer was never overworked and used occasionally.

HP or other manufacturers can not remotely effect the printer but there are some things the printers have build in that can cause damage if not original parts are used. For example inks are specifically designed to be used with the printhead and if the printhead detects a different formula in the ink it can cause to dry up the inks faster if the printer is not used. there could be other things that are build in but no one has proven it yet at least to my knowledge

No company can “disable” your printer, perhaps since you have asked that I don’t think you should’ve taken a “I’ll never buy printers from HP again” conclusion.

I am a instant inkjet customer. they claim if u dont pay they can turn off inkjets. i disconnected from wifi and also sharing anonymous info in settings. lets see if theey can by expiration date i cancelled by

my printer is only a few months old and it stopped printing in color, tried everything. will factory reset help solve this. thx

Probably not if you dont get a error. Are you using origianl HP inks or 3rd party? Posible problems. You have selected tp only print in Black on the computer software. 2 after market inks can clog the printer head of not ised often. 3 color inls are not installed properly

It has original hp ink and nothing changed with computer software so no reason for it to stop printing in color. Very frustrating how printer can't even give any reasons on control screen why its not printing in color. i hate to have to go buy another one only after 2 months. home printers are a pain.

What about the printhead problem?

Came here from the phantom cartridge jammed problem, too. Cartridge moves great, no paper jammed anywhere, or even a spec of it, yet still says it can't move. Open top, moves left to right on it's own, no issues... error remains. You find fixes besides an Epson?

It is always possible that somethong is brocken, if after reset it continies then there might be aclual problem with the ink system

I get lines on my documents from top to bottom when i'm using the document feeder to scan multiple documents. Do you know how I can resolve this?

The feeder top pops open and you need to make sure there is no dust or any debrie that is on the unit. The feeder uses the same scanner as the flat one so if flat scanner works then it will be somethong with the feeder window.

i am having a issue with my HP6978 printer, it is not shutting down. what can i do to fix this.?

Check printer setting. Some printer have settings that can provent the printer from shutting down.

I did the full reset, I dont have the setup ink cartridges. I bought the hp black ink cartridge and have that installed but the reset menu will not let me go passed the ink setup. What can I do?

Some newer printers now come with setup cartridges. Those are the original inks that came with the printer. If you dont have them anymore you can buy them on ebay. But there os always a chance that it will not fix the issue

If you remove the batter save time would be 15 minutes and to make sure it is not pluged in

I cannot get it to wireless connect. I had no problem before but now I get a connection problem error message. Any suggestions on a fix.

Check your router if anything alse is using the same IP address and make sure you are connected to the correct network and that the password is correct

It keeps giving me the paper jam error and there is no paper jam. I tried pressing the back button twice and it reset but still the error is coming up

All it takes is a tiny bit paper stuck somewere to throw paper jam error. In rare cases the sensor fails. If you get a pepaer jam error most likely there is dust or very small piece of paper stuck somewere

I followed the instructions to the letter and then reformatted the printer. Now it is locked up super tight and can't unlock it for anything.

Unplug ot from power for about 30 s3conds and then plug it back in and turn it on, it should resume

whhat happens if the screen so longer comes up

If ypu unplug it from power for 15 minutes and plug it back in. And the screen does not show up. Then there is power issue or screen issue or main board issue

Not seeing my printer menu - it's showing "resuming initialization". Then an error message 0x6100004a. How can I reboot the printer.

Try turning the printer off and disconecting power from the wall for 1 hr and then try again. This error refers to common firmware glitch that these printer have. Usually all it takes is a power cycle to get it going again

how do i get the cartridge to center when it dos not?

Try turning it off from power, sometimes a error will provent it but a power cycle usualy does the trick

If it trying to print but nothing comes out it means the head is bad or cloged. You may need a new print head or you can try to clean it. There are several vidoes on youtube on how to clean a printhead but that is very messy

Didn't work for me.........???? Tried resetting, tried partial reset, then semi reset, still didn't work

Check to make sure all the rollers spin. One might be loose or stuck

I press the semi reset and it does nothing!!! What now????

Printer should turn off and then on agian. You may want to try few times. This does not mean ot will fix the issue but som3time it does

Unfortunately, it made the same sound as yours did like it was going to shut down, but froze instead. I had to unplug it to try to turn it back on. And now I get just the error message when it comes back on. It no longer had the "hide" button when the error pops up AND it no longer has any of the buttons on the side to go to Home or to tap to get to the reset options. Worse off now than it was before and now I can't do anything with it. 😒

@@laughoutloudwithbella5630 nope. Luckily I had an old printer I was able to take out and use. And I'm still using today. This rendered my 6978 printer useless....

well that completely buggered up my printer worse than before. I have no have touch screen options so can't even attempt to reset. DO NOT follow those steps.

Didn’t work. My printer is about to sleep with the fishes.

Sadly It didn't work, I tried at least 8 times now.
