These hoses are expensive the dealership wants 160 for the hose. Of course they won't sell them separately they want you to buy all that connect to it but it's still crazy high. I'm going to try cleaning it first like this guy. Thank you so much for this video

Highly detailed, and very nicely done. I am new to German cars, and to these connectors. An important fact that you provide here is that there is a KEYWAY in these connectors such that the two sides of the joint CANNOT ROTATE with respect to one another. If the parts are stuck together, it is necessary to use the tip of a flat plate screw driver to force them apart. TWISTING the parts does not work, and may break the radiator neck. Knowing about that keyway is really important. Other videos do not mention it.

I am facing the prospect of a Heater Core flush on VW which has very similar hoses and your video along with the horrific placement of the hoses has convinced me to trade the car and NEVER buy a German car again! There is no reason to over-engineer these hoses like this!

Thanks for showing how this new style trash connection works. I think my Jeep Renegade hoses connect to the radiator the same way and I have a better understanding of it. I was looking for a video for how to get them off. Apparently at least on a Renegade they are really difficult to disconnect.

Thanks for the tips. I've got a 98 A6 that I love to death it ran so good for so many years I replaced almost every moving part underneath the car and it rides like you're the king of the road. Power steering went and the pump leaked so much that the timing seems to have slipped (hoping nothing worse happened) so I was taking the front of the car off to inspect the timing and replace the pump but when I got to this upper radiator hose I could not budge it on either end. When I pried the clip off the top end it just broke it was so rusty and the hose just refuses to come off. Now that I've seen this I know that there are probably still wire pieces on the sides that are keeping it from detatching so my next step today will be to try to get the remainder of that clip off.

  • @stevefrancis9742
    @stevefrancis97424 жыл бұрын

Two things to add on. 1. Be careful when pulling out the clips (especially over the engine) as they might fall down inside where you cant get to them. 2. Sometimes one side of the upper and lower hoses might have the u ring and adapter inside and may come off when you pull out the hose. Be sure not to drop and loose them. If would be nice if you could show them how to properly reinsert them.

so ive seen your vids and asked a lot and youve been very helpful and thank you for it! just did a guide install. my issue now is that my radiator hose will not slide to click on the water pump. plastic hose end, metal water pump end. ive matched my new water pump with the old and everything appears the same. same width and length. hose will not slide on. ive removed both o rings from the female end with the clip. it slid on a little further but still stops before i can get it on enough to make that snap ring click. it feels like something hard is stopping it. ive tried using a baby basher hammer and towel to protect the plastic. it just dont go on. ive removed the rings to see if they were the culprit. i guess it was part of it. ive pulled the snap ring out. no matter what it doesnt go in all the way. for mine theres no slots to line up. just a pin that goes in a hole on one side. the pin will go up to the hole but not in.

Coolant in my S212 has been dropping every 1000 miles or so, found a drip on the radiator hose connection to the radiator. I was wondering how it's supposed to come apart, and this answers that brilliantly. Can't help thinking that a big mikalor hose clamp would be simpler than all these molded parts.

For the C230 Benz 2003, the factory clamp cracked my plastic joint (56. aftermarket 3 piece hose asmbly) so I had to repair it, gut it, clean it up, reclamp the coolant hose just long enough to get it to my Mexican mechanic who will do my new install, brakes etc. I hardly drive the super low mile C230, bought it as a project car. I used WD40 reapply a fitting with that rubber heat resistant tape stuff to seal. Then, as you intimated, I put red gasket goop over the fitting anticipating a leak. I wish this hose assembly didn't have the factory clamps but whatever, it is back to working fine considering I use my taco as a daily driver.

Thanks for tips on the proper way to use these clip hoses. I had the lower hose pop off doing it the way you show, fortunately it only cost me $30 in more coolant! I wish I had seen your video before. What a sense of security to hear that click, knowing the hose was securely installed. It made me appreciate the German engineering rather than question it. Also coolant as a lubricant works great and obviously is compatible.

For some reason, this molded part and the hose separated on my 1999 Volkswagen Passat today. All the coolant drained out and I got a temperature warning on my dashboard… Great! I’m currently trying to reattach it. I find it strange that you don’t have to lift the metal clip before you push the hose on. What you’re showing here, is the metal clip already in the down position before you push the hose onto the molding.

While changing the head gasket on my 04 a4 1.8 quattro, I removed the coolant flange and looked down into this hose and noticed an O ring, so, like with most other O rings, I attempted to remove it. It came out easily; unfortunately, the plastic retaining piece (its housing) came out with it. Be careful while wiping the O ring, lest you accidentally break the retaining piece, and then youll need to buy a whole new hose, or cut the old one and install a brand new plastic end.

@@rosiecarr865 This was on a customer's car that I was working on and the customer who is a pretty big guy and I grabbed the radiator and the hose and pulled it apart by brute force. Remember you can NOT twist the hose in an attempt to remove it. There are vertical plastic guide fins on the rad outlet where the hose fits that are supposed to prevent twisting of the hose on the radiator and these vertical guide fins fit into corresponding slots in the end of the hose. So it has to be pulled straight off the rad outlet.

why do hose clamps work everywhere else and not on the plastic fittings? is something abnormal about the hose barbs on the plastic fittings such that they don't work with hose clamps? you said the plastic sometimes goes oval? so it should be replaced (after 130Kmiles in my case) along with the hose anyway? even if the barb is normal? they definitely do sell molded hoses without the fitting. My 130k hose actually looks fine to me, which speaks to the quality of the factory coolant. But I got a bigger problem which I found more common in the Northeast where I grew up and that is it's stuck together, as if the last guy used superglue instead of WD40, but it's more likely rust or minerals from hard water. I can usually figure out how it goes together once I have it apart but came here to learn how it comes apart before forcing it apart. After pulling the clip, the hose pulls straight out, right? it doesn't unscrew at all? I have nothing much to pry against and pulling straight out does nothing? what next? leave it in 'til it bursts? replace the radiator? hire a strong man?

My issues is I have a 2007 Mercedes s550 and I can’t disconnect the lower coolant hose from the radiator at all. No matter what I do it actually feels like it’s glued on. I can’t spray wd40 cause there is no openings to allow it to penetrate and actually work

Same problem, want to flush the coolant to refresh the antifreeze and inhibitors but can't get the hoses off, metal wire clip is fully out but it won't budge. Mind you I know from doing household plumbing how stuck plastic fittings can become.

I had my 2011 X3 worked on and the idiot mechanic at Kerry’s car care instead of unhooking the upper correctly, they cut it and put a hose clamp. We know they did this because the car did not leak until we got it back from them. I am changing out the rigged hose with the proper Gates OEM replacement hose.

These were designed so that you have to go to the dealer-BMW makes a ton on replacement parts. having a standard hose with hose clamps would cost BMW money, we can't have that.

4:40 Too cheap to buy a $16 radiator hose? Try $100 (aftermarket) to 250+ (OEM) for an Audi S4 upper or lower hose assembly.

Use wd40 or some kind of oil on the o-ring inside the hose, close the wire latch and push it on until it clicks

Get a small flat screwdriver or a pick and catch the spring clip and pull out. This will release the hose. Just a little bit. No need to pull out much just a little bit. Pull out too much and the clips will fly off or get lost. Just pull out enough like half an inch just to release the hose.

yes it is, and Germans are typically very intelligent, so there is no excuse for it. It's like, the ones at volkswagen anyway, try too hard to out-smart everyone else. Just like using ball bearings for wheel bearings; knowing good and well the side forces in cornering, and engineering 101 says that ball-bearings are for applications with no lateral force. Their answer is to stack four sets of ball bearings; instead of just using two tapered roller bearings - like everyone else - which almost "never fail, unless they loose their lubrication.
