HOW TO MAKE HANDMADE HORSE TREATS I COMPLETE TUTORIAL

Ойын-сауық

Hey guys! I owned a horse treat company called Royalty and Reins Bakery on Instagram and sold lots of fancy, hand-decorated horse treats. Today, I'm showing you exactly how you can make them yourself at home!
Ingredients for cookie:
-Flour of choice
-Water
-Molasses
Ingredients for icing:
-Water
-Powdered sugar
-Pasteurized egg whites or meringue powder
(Optional):
-Food coloring
-Sprinkles
Directions for cookie:
-Combine 1 part water, 2 parts molasses, and 8 parts flour
-Roll out and cut dough then bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes until the bottom edges of the cookie are slightly browned
Directions for icing:
-Add a whole bag of powdered sugar to a mixer and slowly add the egg whites until you get desired texture
-Thin the base icing out with water as necessary
-Add food coloring and flavoring if desired
Decorate & enjoy!
IMPORTANT
-These are horse treats-just exactly that-a treat. They obviously contain sugar between the icing and molasses, but are fine to give as a snack once in a while as long as your horse has no dietary restrictions. If you're ever concerned about what you can and cannot feed your specific horse, please contact your vet!

IMPORTANT TIP: Do not put your cookies in the fridge or freezer. Let the cookies sit out at room temperature for 24 hours and the icing will harden on its own. Putting the cookies in the fridge will cause the icing to melt when they come out due to the temperature change. After 24 hours, you’re good to stack and store the cookies. If you made the icing right, it will be rock hard and very hard to dent. Hope that helps!

how long is the icing able to stay out assuming you don’t put it in the fridge, just with the egg whites i’m a little scared. would it be longer with the merengue?

@@briwrenmatheson4429 if you’re talking about icing in the piping bag, you want to put it back in the fridge after you’re done frosting. If you mean the frosting on the cookies, as long as you’re using pasteurized egg whites, the cookies are fine to sit out and should not go in the fridge. There’s no reason to be but if you’re still worried, just use meringue powder.

@@natalialevesque3578 that’s exactly why. They don’t need to go in the fridge or freezer. Let the icing harden for 24 hours at room temperature then you’ll be good to go. It should get so hard it doesn’t dent easily. Putting them in the fridge will actually make the icing “sweat” or melt after it comes out due to the temperature change.
