How To Make Giant Christmas Light Balls

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to make Giant Christmas light balls for your Christmas light show. Using chicken wire and string lights, you can add these light balls to your outdoor Christmas decorations! I use these as "chasers" in my animated Christmas light show. This is incredibly easy to make with just Chicken wire and Christmas lights!!!
One very neat byproduct of the COVID-19 Pandemic is that people are putting back up or turning back on their Christmas Lights. These Giant Christmas Balls allow you to have a lightweight item in your front yard to take part in the #lightsforlife trend to show love and support to one another. As an added plus, these Giant Christmas Light Balls can be quickly moved so you can mow the yard this spring.

    Wow, nice work! They look awesome all lit up. Love the prop build videos, can't wait to see more in the future! Also, thanks for including the little blooper of the wire ball falling off the table! 👍

    Thanks Chewie. They really do glow extremely well. With the family home all day everyday, finding quiet time to film has become an issue so I'll most likely have more frequent outdoor episodes which will include several new prop builds.

    That's a great idea, Pashence. Just an FYI though, you'll need to reinforce the wire to ensure the bottom two balls aren't crushed by the weight of the others. I'll be coming out with a video on this in 2022. I didn't have time to do that this year.

    Looks really cool, Charley. Now to figure out how to store them. I’m thinking about doing an Independence Day display this year. You know, to celebrate our birthdays! LOL. All red, white, and blue bulbs. Researching what I want for a flag. Probably a sheet of plywood, 4 x 8. Maybe on the roof.

  • @ChristmasOnCrestline

    @ChristmasOnCrestline

    Thank ya much, Jim. Storing can be tricky. Luckily, I have a decent sized fenced in garden that affords me the ability to place them all under a large raised platform which we grow our strawberries in. I bet a sheet of plywood would work for an awesome America's, Jim's, and Charlie's birthday display! What route are you thinking of taking? Drilling out holes for the bulbs to go into and paint the wood to resemble the flag or something else?

    @@ChristmasOnCrestline I'm thinking for simplicity purposes of doing just what you said with the plywood. But I am going to set it up with 16 channels for dancing the lights. Haven't decided on whether to use C9's for the stripes, or multiple rows of mini's for each stripe. And then probably C9's for the stars. I'll probably set up a mock flag in my LOR visualizer and see which looks better. What are your thoughts?

  • @ChristmasOnCrestline

    @ChristmasOnCrestline

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Keymanofco I'm a C7 kinda guy myself but I think the C9s would look sharp for the stars. Perhaps C6s for the reds and blues or minis if you don't have C6s. I think the difference in bulb size would give it a nice contrast. A sheet of plywood, a drill, a few cans of spray paint, and you're in business!

    I've already made five of those and they are really hard to make with the chicken wire cuz all the things are poking me and the rainbow lights are easy to put on even the LEDs are really small so they are really easy to put on but sometimes I had to zip tie them on cuz I don't put them on sometimes really tight but you sometimes do put them on tight cuz I can see that and they're not falling off mine sometimes too but they don't anymore since I do zip ties so I will be watching your videos are the best and I love your videos cuz I love Christmas lights and I love your videos cuz it's Christmas lights all right

    That's so neat that you've already made five, Samuel. To keep the lights in place, I don't use zip ties on these. I either use the ties that come with new lights or I use the wire to bend in on itself.

    Did the finished product wind up having 300 or 600 lights?

  • @ChristmasOnCrestline

    @ChristmasOnCrestline

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello, MrRobbo. It had 600. 600 - 900 is about the right about. Anything more than that and the lights will cause too much weight on the chicken wire.

  • @ChristmasOnCrestline

    @ChristmasOnCrestline

    7 күн бұрын

    Hey there, Douglas. Making a perfectly round chicken wire ball would be impossible without an internal base. Plus the weight of the lights make it take shape as well. It's all about the illusion the lights make at night. You can create any shape you'd like in that lighting.

    Why are you testing your new LED lights even though they already work cuz they would already work if they are new so it's no reason to test them

  • @ChristmasOnCrestline

    @ChristmasOnCrestline

    3 жыл бұрын

    That's a great question, Sam. About 10% of retail-grade lights are bad right out of the box. I've learned to test the lights prior to hanging them or placing them on props so I save myself time. Just like you, I used to believe that because lights were new that they would work perfectly. Unfortunately, that isn't true.
