Making your salad dressing is simple and allows you to control the ingredients and customize the flavors to your liking. Whether you prefer a classic balsamic vinaigrette, a tangy lemon vinaigrette, or a zesty dijon vinaigrette, we've got you covered.
👩🏼‍🍳 BASIC VINAIGRETTE:
Ingredients:
1 cup olive oil
1/3 cup vinegar (we love apple cider vinegar for mild flavor)
1 garlic clover (pressed if you use a hand whisk)
1 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
Salt & pepper
🟣 Mix all ingredients in a blender and keep in the fridge for up to a week. Leave at room temperature for a few minutes to liquefy before using.
🟣 If you hand mix it, press your garlic
👩🏼‍🍳 VARIATIONS!!!
❇️ 1- HERB:
This is the basic recipe; you can add a handful of fresh herbs-cilantro, parsley, mint, or a mix of some!
❇️ 2- Creamy Red Onion:
Remove mustard from basic recipe + add 2 Tbsp plain yogurt, 2Tbsp minced red onion, 1 tsp honey, 1/2 tsp dried oregano, 2 Tbsp minced fresh basil
❇️ 3- Cilantro-Lime:
1 cup oil, 1/3-1/2 cup lime juice, 4 tsp maple/honey, 1-2 garlic cloves, 3 cups fresh cilantro, 1 tsp ground coriander, 1 tsp salt, pepper
❇️ 4- Honey-Mustard:
Basic recipe + add 1 Tbsp honey. Best used with white wine vinegar or Champagne vinegar.
❇️ 5- Italian:
1 cup olive oil. 1/4 cup white wine vinegar, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard, 1-2 garlic cloves, 1 1/2 Tbsp honey, 2 tsp oregano, 1 tsp thyme, 3 Tbsp fresh chopped parsley. Optional- 1/3 cup Parmesan

Honey or maple are definitely one of my favorites, also helps to cut through the vinegar a bit.

Very nice! I used the same basic ingredients, but my go to vinaigrette I use lemon zest, fresh squeezed lemon juice and cumin.

    Can i add sesame seeds

  • @youdonthavetobeachef

Of course! The beauty here is that you can add whatever you want, and replace whatever you want - so, different vinegars/lemon juice... a mix of both and then add as you wish- We gave a bunch of ideas in the description. Personally, I would say that any seeds, including sesame, have to do with the salad itself, rather than the dressing. I do recommend roasting them a bit- Sesame seeds can be roasted in a dry pan (no oil at all) for just a few minutes until they get a tan color.

This is a basic ratio, and will be similar in most vinaigrette recipes you'll find out there. Indeed in this case its a whole cup of oilve oil, which sounds like a lot, but the recipe also yields a lot of dressing, to use in several portions of salads. if you put less, then it will have a very strong vinegar flavor. Just for the sake of argument, for a big salad for 4-6 people i will probably use a 1/3 or less of the total... it's just proportion- you don't have to make/use as much. Hope this makes sense

@@youdonthavetobeachef Yes on the ratio and serving the same dressing to a few people.I have a small family and we like different dressings.I never had olive oil 'til I was in my mid 20's.I grew up with plain old veg oil and prefer canola nowdays.I'll splurge and buy grapeseed once in a blue moon.

  • @youdonthavetobeachef

    @youdonthavetobeachef

@@hattiem.7966 Well, Olive oil is healthier and more flavorful than Canola. Therefore usually the go-to oil in dressings. I guess for a family that each likes different dressing it's a problem eitherway. However- you can make this portion, then divide the total to 3 jars, and then do a different variation in each - honey mustard, herbs, etc. Whatever works- that's the fun of it

@@youdonthavetobeachef Yes,I could make 3 different dressings out of it.Thanks for your suggestions. :) My Mom's friend was a great cook and she had 20 bottles of salad dressing in her frig!!!! Her hubby had to have a small salad each day for lunch or dinner. My late Mother-in-law was also a great cook and would make a big salad in a wooden bowl and pour homemade balsamic or french dressing on it.Her fav was the one with dijon mustard. She didn't use that much Dijon tho.

@@hattiem.7966 yeah- that sounds awesome. Get yourself 3 small dressing bottles, make the basic in a bowl, split it and add whatever you want. you can replace type of vinegar, switch it with lemon, add honey-dijon... so many options I wrote just a few in the description :) enjoy!
