Lately I've been dipping my toes into the world of mechanical pottery, and I was so inspired by the ceramic artist Andrew Clark to create this locking jar! This pottery project was an emotional roller coaster. Enjoy the chaos!

As a heads up, you could have left the gallery as you had it after throwing and then the locking disc could have been shaped like a teardrop (the technical term would be "cam"). When the knob is turned, the wider portion of the teardrop would rotate toward the middle of the lid and disengage with the gallery rim.
As always, I love your videos, you speak as your thinking and all the processes you think you may use our not come out. That was meant to be a complement, promise, it's what makes your videos so enjoyable. It may sound chaotic to you, however you work through it and to help us understand you talk us through your though process. Don't ever stop. This was a technical nightmare and you worked it out. 🎉😮😊
Congratulations 🎉 that is an amazing build! I am so happy that you went back to that project and posted the win. Well done❤

You did a great job and you're so right with what you said at the end, we're able to do so much more than we think, just try and trust the process 👏
STUNNING! Not only has your ceramic work surpassed your own expectations, but your videos continue to get more & more impressive with time. Can't wait to see what you make next!
I ordered the book Steal like an artist. You are so refreshing.
I need to try this! I loved the design and was very relieved when you hammered the lock and it started working again 🤩
I love your smile when something youre not sure is gonna work, works perfectly :) so inspiring
I was so excited right along with you. This is gonna be a great year. I'm looking forward to watching you, learn and teach us.

Me too!! Thanks for watching!
This was so interesting during the construction and so exciting at the final reveal! I love his work as much as I love yours.
Oh, such a fun video, and I had no idea that's even possible with clay. Mindblown!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your excitement for this! It's so great when you make something that truly makes your soul happy!
Another stunning project, loved watching the video and your work- and most of all thought process 😜

Aww thank you! 🥰🥰
Wow gorgeous and functional but it sounds to complicated for me to try. I love watching all the great things you make and as I’m from England it’s fun to watch you do the great pottery throw down stuff. Season 7 started 4 weeks ago and it’s fantastic so far and I hope I can watch the Canadian throw down too ❤️
Congratulations Maya! You smashed it - tidying up your unfinished business with the Great Pottery Throwdown in the eve of the next season!
That's such a fantastic jar! Amazing how you made it! You are a true pro! You are!🌻
It makes me happy to see you so stoked about something you made - beautiful to watch :) (and the jar is lovely too!)
Unless that piece that exploded was the only piece in the kiln it was from moisture that made it explode! I can’t believe all the work you did to make this. What an amaaazing pot. I had to watch the part where you crated the arts several times to figure it out. lol. Should have am watched the end first to find out how it worked first. Very very cool!!

Thank you!! I am so confused about that pot. I agree it must have been water, but it had been drying way longer than I normally dry things... so odd!
This is a perfect cookie jar! I love it!

hehe nice catch!!! That was totally the inspiration behind it. :)
Sometimes it helps to make a cardboard mockup to get a "function fit" for the way it goes. That way you can see if it's right or needs an alteration. Once the mockup works properly you can then commit to the risking of clay.
This is the coolest, I love the steampunk feel of it
This video makes me so happy! I'm inspired to go and make something I can be as proud of as you are 😁😁

I think the fails in ceramics make the successes that much more exciting! Great job on this project, and thanks for the inspiration.
Ooh i love seeing you so happy and excited. I almost got in to tears of joy with you🎉🎉🎉
For the rivets look I always use the cap of a Bic pen! The end result is amazing!! Great job!🤩🤩

Genius!! Thank you!
I love it! I paint textured/mixed media abstract works, and my theme the past few months has been "alien artifacts from an archaeological dig on another planet," and this vessel looks like it'd fit in with everything from that theme. It's mysterious and looks ancient, but also a little extraterrestrial? I just love it.

Honestly adore this video -- the kind of joy from having a project turn out just the way you wanted is the feeling that we all chase as potters, and those high highs make all the lows (kiln disasters, uneven drying, random cracks, glaze issues) so worth it. Thanks for sharing ❤❤
This is really one of the coolest things you made! Love it!

Thanks guys 🥰 it was only during the edit I realized how much I was swearing in this video. The downside of getting more comfy in front of the camera. 😂 But I'm gonna try to rein it in because I do think some people won't like it.
Omg! This is so freaking awesome! I love it! This Canadian is excited to have our own throw down and I can’t wait to see you “compete”, too!

I would recommend making a test mechanism from cardboard or plastic or wood in order to see how to make it work. But you really made something amazing! Be proud that you can!
To make your imprints more rounded and not as sharp, you could try and press it through cling film or some kind of foil to make it more dome shaped. I love it. It's so cool!

Love the wash. I’m testing a mason stain as a wash right now. But I also love the idea of using underglaze as a wash because I have more colours to choose from.
You did an amazing job! I love the final pot. Well done!
Fearlessness works for you! Great job!
Just one word : Bravo ! 👏💪

This was such a delight to watch. Really the end brought tears to my eyes just from seeing your joy and happiness. I also love that you face multiple obstacles and take us with you in the solution you come up with. You are not afraid to show your struggle and I love that it’s a big inspiration and makes it so entertaining to watch. Your work is a 10/10 but this video is 12/10 :)
This is gorgeous. the way Andrew's work has inspired you is the same way that your work inspires me. first to do a line of rainbow grog cups and now i want to combine both to make funfetti cookie jars
Fabulous, you made it look easy x x
Such an awesome job! Super super impressed with this for your second attempt at making something like this - it's so complex! And thank you so much for sharing Andrew Clark with those of us who haven't come across his work before
