Mixing clay to make a weirdo coffee set
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
It's episode 8 of the great pottery throw down! This week I'm tackling the abstract coffee set. Instead of using underglazes, I'm using mixed reclaimed and stained clay to make colorful pottery. I'm SO happy with how they turned out. Let me know what you think!

By far. I’m addicted.
I really like how that, although each vessel feels different, they are connected together. The wave in the creamer ties really well to the pitcher, and the angular and soft forms blend really well too, and so do the thumb handles. It just makes it a set rather than individual pieces. Really well done!
I am really into thinks that are different. Loved already the humbnail! Looking them come together is oddly setisfying. Very beautiful. I never have seen "donut saucers", too.

thank you!! i love them 🥰
That donut idea is SO cute. They remind me of bird's nests almost, with the cup as the bird.
So cool! The different clays are a nice touch. It's very modern like the 'colorblocking' trend :)

thats the word!! i was searching for the right word for it. color blocking 😄
Perfe t for when the electric goes out. I love it. Would love one without candle holders.
Thanks for all your hard work filming these projects. Those grog chunks were huge! so cool
It's not an addiction, it's a preference, nothing weird about it.
Nice bun 😊 and a very nice end product.
Absolutely love this set. Well done experimenting and taking risks. They have paid off. The design reminds me of the 1940s. Thank you for sharing your process.
Incredible problem solving
This set is so cute and beautiful, really weird in a good way! The handles make me think of climbing wall thingies!!!
Love love love!
I adore these !
Just beautiful ! Thanks for sharing !
Gorgeous 🎉
So beautiful and inspiring, thank a lot.
I absolutely love this set. It's so creative with the different shapes, I'm left with a sense of 'Alice in Wonderland' and just the nuances of colors put together - really inspiring!!!
Love these!! Awesome job! I love how you try things!

Gracias me encantan tus piezas y el manejo del torno, excelente 👍👏👏
I love the set! It’s great the clays played nicely together and shrank the same. It looked risky to me. It’s great to be inspired by your work too. 🎉
Oh my goodness. I am so in love with this set. Absolutely lovely
Great work keep it up❤
It became such a nice beautiful caffee set! Suprising and inspring also! Thanks! 🙏
Your set is gorgeous.
THIS it a very nice work! Simple, efficiant, elegant! Good job!
with so many different clays being attached, I was so worried about different shrinkage rates! But it all worked out. Thanks to your kiln gods

I love the mixture of colours!!! And the cups are adorable. I wish the donut's base was a different color, green would be cool

I just did a quick google and I did find a few cup and saucers that have the donut shaped saucer. But your cups are a different shape- and much more interesting. Good job!

I feel this is a modern take on iron age/medevil pottery. as a reenactor am not mad about it :)
Hello hello! Vid request: I’d love to see all your fav ways of making lidded vessels. I’m a newer potter and It’s something I haven’t experimented much with. Appreciate you!
Hello, thank you for your wonderful videos. I am a baker that is usually making bread when I watch your content. It would be great to see you make a pastry cloche someday. Something you could put over baked goods to extend their life and keep moisture in. I want to try making one, but I've only done pottery once or twice.

So cool! Its a great idea. I will add it to the list :)
I love it, I liked it a lot before you glazed it, the red handles are the cherry on the top. the cup and saucers are my absolute favourite bit, I think, but now I don't know. I like the rounded bottom's. and all the 'stands' that items are on make it so quirky, its perfect. the saucer do-nuts are next on my list to make, never having made them myself. Last week I did an enclosed pot I'm turning into an oil burner so do-nuts here we go. thanks as always for your showing all your doubts that turn into amazing pieces, like your lampshade in the back ground. keep potting and I will keep watching x

Did you use clear glaze? I love every piece! I have made doughnuts holders for vases! It is fun!
I just realized … many of us are weird coffee mugs 😊
I don't know much about clay, but i wonder if you could mix different colors of clay to make some kind of gradient :D
Very inspiring! I'm curious how you glazed the cups putting them upside down into the kiln. No glaze on the rim?
Hi. They look awesome. Could you please do a vid on Botz plus. I got given some but have found it confusing to find out how to use it. Is it just a flux or is it more. Thanks
Superliked
Is your clay tinted with turmeric? It’s such a beautiful color!
😍
Thanks so much for sharing this cool project :) One question: did you make a little hole into the donuts before putting them into the killin? Or did it work without? ☺️ Thanks!

Also interested in this 😊
Hi, I love your work! I’m just wondering how you got away with not waxing/wiping the bottoms or or putting stilts under any of your pieces in the kiln. What sort of sorcery is this?!! 😂
Didn’t the giant grog tear your hands when you were throwing?! Also, with the donut that you expertly threw, how does the air inside work, I always thought you needed a hole so air could escape as if not it makes your pieces explode in the kiln!
Love the donuts, How did they work to use and would you do them a little differently if needed? Can you explain your decision to double wall the sugar bowl? Thanks a ton!
@PotterytothePeople

I think i would exclude the handle if I did them again. They were still a little wobbly with liquid inside. Without the handle it would work fine :) I just decided that for aesthetic reasons. I wanted that shape outside with a round inside. Just because 😄
How did you keep the cups from fusing to the donuts or kiln shelf. It looked like you glazed the whole thing.

I left the rim unglazed and fired them upside down 😄

does this remind anyone else of the neverhood?
Please excuse me, but did someone tell you lately you're kinda adorable? 😶
That is not out of control or chaos - it’s all bagged!! Totally over exaggerating.
Does anyone know when the GPT season 6 will be available in the US? We’re so spoiled with all the streaming services so when there’s something we can’t watch is soooo frustrating! 😂 I need to remind myself to “have patience grasshopper”! 🥢
