Such a fun video Mia, you must continue the series 🙌🏻 the Throwdown is filmed over several weeks, it looks like they make and fire in one weekend but they don’t. They film for around 30 days over 9-10 weeks.

Woooahh! Thanks for the info!!! Honestly after watching the second episode yesterday, I really started to question my weekend theory (they mentioned a 24-hour firing and I'm like... wait...) By chance, do you know how many days it takes to film one episode?

Yeah, the 24 hour firing AND Rose took the pieces out of the kiln with no gloves so there's another 24 hours at least....

@@PotterytothePeople Ok, this is approximately how I think they film this show... Weekend #1- Throw/Build ALL episode 1 challenges. Weekend #2- Glaze All episode 1 challenges. Weekend #3- Film all episode 1 challenge reveals and judging AND Throw/Build episode 2 challenges. Weekend #4- Glaze episode 2 challenges. Some of these weekends might be 3-4 days if more drying time is necessary. In Between filming, the pieces are fired by the kiln keeper. In the first few seasons, it was the current judge Rich Miller who was in charge of firing. Also, keep in mind that some challenges only require throwing so there is no drying or firing time needed.

Just so you know, the contestants in the show know what the challenges will be well before shooting and while they still have access to their own studios. This lets them design, plan and even practice their pieces in advance. AFAIK, they do throw / build the final pieces in the allocated time and in the show's studio, but problems like your leaves being too flat to leave an imprint can be ironed out in advance. (BTW, I do a lot of leaf imprints in my pottery, so I know the pain of finding a cool leaf to then find out that the veining is not raised enough).

I loved watching you do this challenge. I’m a hand builder from the uk, and watch throw down every week. What you achieved over the time was amazing, how they do it without everything blowing up I’ve no idea. It takes weeks sometimes for my mugs etc., to dry slowly and evenly. Please do it again, but when you are fully better. Well done your concept was wonderful. ❤

The shows are designed so the viewer only gets a sense of tension, chaos, stress. That is what sells the show. I don’t really think it is that tense or chaotic when the contestants are making their items. They are in a time crunch but the stress is a built in media thing with tense music and video cuts giving a sense of that chaos. Chill and enjoy the process just like you are doing here. I learn a lot from your videos.

I love to wheel throw and I still struggle with it, but there is just something about hand built pots that I can't get enough of. I enjoyed watching you do the challenge and they all came out so adorable. Very creative! Side note, I was walking on the beach New Year's Eve and saw a sea grape tree near the beach and snapped off a leaf and made a plate out of it. Inspiration that I may have not noticed had it not been for watching your video (s.) So thank you for sharing your art and inspiration with us. I appreciate it.

Oh, you simply HAVE TO continue with this series. I love the TV programme and always thought it would be so intriguing if my teacher gave us challenges. Obviously not those big ones (that would simply not be feasible in a once-a-week course), but maybe some blind throwing challenges or time restricted ones. And it’s great to see you do some of this, too.

I love watching the program on pay TV...but in Italy it's no longer on😢. I watched your first episode and cannot wait to have a moment to watch the second...SO MUCH FUN...thank you for this.❤

Every couple of years I'm reminded of the existence of great pottery throwdown, am absolutely consumed by it for a few weeks and then forget about it again lol. But I love how you did this, I always wonder if it's possible to do it with the time they allow there and considering the lovely results I guessed it is! It's not ideal but still, I loved watching you, and how calm you were the whole time. I'd love to see more of this!
