I would love to see the breakdown of how you make money and make a career.
Thanks for picking my question! I was so surprised to learn you’re American!! I always thought you have a very interesting accent when speaking English but had no idea you are American. Wish you had discussed your journey more of emigrating to Germany and how you learned the language, how you found the culture different, etc. Please don’t delete the early days videos. That’s how we found you and I sometimes still go back to those for referencing techniques for handbuilding, etc. Thanks for another great video!!

haha yes I think my accent has gotten quite messed up over the years 🙃 I have US roots but speaking English mostly with non-native English speakers or the occasional Brit. Never with Americans unless I am calling home. Interesting how languages evolve. Maybe I will do another Q&A to answer those questions :) Thanks for watching!
Hell yes - if you are comfortable talking about money, that would be a great video! Also I am glad to learn that you had a bunch of "random" non-clay jobs, bc that seems to be what I am heading to 😅🤓

That's the artist life! I am so lucky to make money from pottery now, but if not I'd still be working a random job I guess. I'm not interested in a "career" that will take my focus away from my art :) Will share about money soon-- probably in the new year!
Oooh BOOK CONSERVATION!! How WONDERFUL!!! ❤
Can I just say I’m new to your channel -but I’m genuinely enjoying your channel. So Thankyou from Australia for being motivated enough to post these fabulous videos. ❤
Like others have said, thank you for this friendly, happy chat. And, please don’t delete those original videos. I sometimes refer to them still like others have mentioned. See you next time.
You are fortunate having so much space and the flexibility to modify it to your needs. I have a small 2nd floor atelier which has awkward limitations. But I manage, and try to focus on unusual designs and techniques. Love your videos and candor.
Thanks. I look forward to seeing the Trees glazed.
Awesome Q and A, as a kid I loved pottery, could definitely see myself creating a forest of trees for the model train set, or a chess set, well if I had a kiln and the skills.
i am so glad I found you here. I also love all crafts, minus crochet and knitting. I moved to my new home in Wisconsin last year and I am currently setting up my basement studio. which will have, 2 potters wheels, painting area, glass bead making, rock carving and jewelry making. sewing is upstairs. I am really inspired by your videos.
It was so refreshing to have such honest and humble answers. I would love to hear all of your stories, tips and advice. Also aside from pottery, could you do an apartment tour? The aesthetic of it looks amazing. 😘
I am just starting out and I just wanted to say that you're such an inspiration. I follow many of your tutorials and your positive energy and cheerfulness really add to the quality of your videos :) Thank you.

Thank you 🙏🏽. You’re a really good teacher and your openness is a gift and is rather inspirational. Blessings galore, have fun 🤗🥰
I love those first videos you made during the pandemic! Please don't take them down! I learn so much through those :)
Was great to get to know you a bit in this video. I am also all about all crafts! I’m working on my portfolio to apply for entry in a diploma of ceramics in Australia. So that I can eventually teach. I’m a bit old to be starting but I feel I need to be able to express myself more on a daily basis.
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences so openly. These were questions I have had while watching your videos.
I really admire how open and honest you are about your experience. You have a down to earth approach that makes it easy for people to connect with you. Thanks for these videos 🙂
This was so insightful!!!! Love every bit of it. Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing your journey. It is so interesting comparing reality with what we initially assume about people. Enjoy watching all your videos.
Thank you for giving me many tips while watching the video! I felt his serious expression and passion, so I fell in love with it!
I absolutely looove your channel! I would love to see your lists and schedules you’ve set for yourself - definitely something that I could greatly benefit from.
Hi, it’s so nice to get to know you better 🤗
thank you for answering my questions!
Yes I love to hear how money you make and how 😊 I hate glazing too 😵

Great video. My son married a German woman and they live in La Crosse, WI. Love your videos!
All the crafts!!
Recently got into your channel, I'm in Madison so it's cool to hear you were at UW! I'm sure you would not be surprised to hear that rent is pretty ridiculous here now. Glad you found such an awesome situation abroad!

awesome!!! yes I left juuust as rent was starting to go bonkers 🥲 its pretty terrible considering its a student town. The city should really put in a rent cap. Great town otherwise though!
Would love to see you get a patreon!
Great video. This is my first time seeing your YT channel; and I've just subscribed. 12-09-22.

If you don't sell a lot of your pottery what do you do with all your pieces? I love my hobby potting but there's only so many mugs and plates you can put in your cupboard or gift to friends etc.
I have a doubt if miami pink glaze (cone 06) can be applied on terracotta clay body?
Hi there! Any chance you can do a tutorial on how to sculpt different decorative shapes onto mugs e.g. a moon, a star, a flower, etc? Thank you 😊

@@PotterytothePeople thank you 🎉
I tried making the Christmas trees. Do u trim them?
I see that you roll your clay on a mesh/cloth covered board. Why? And what is material? Thanks.
For your first place where you were teaching ceramics/pottery wheel throwing, how many wheels and kilns did you have for it?
@PotterytothePeople

I started with 3 wheels & one kiln :D
I feel your desire not to be a production potter. I'm a glassmaker and really struggle to make more than six of the same thing, even though that's where the money is. I just don't want to, it kills my spirit.
I totally understand your frustration with the US Immigration system. My partner and I went through it (he’s from the UK) and it was expensive and complicated. At the time my moving to the UK was not an option. Otherwise I’m sure that’s what we would have done.
Love this!! Come help me do mine!!!
I like to sew and crochet too 😊 and I'm also not a fan of glazing...

I saw on your IG moving clip that you used to live in Asheville N.C. In the US. I’m getting dual citizenship with Luxembourg and am house shopping in La Borne France, but I have no idea who to ask about moving from the US to Europe as an artist with a whole hell of a lot of equipment that I need to bring with me. I am having a very hard time finding information on shipping my equipment/a few personal effects to France, getting a French bank to give me a mortgage (I do have a big down payment to pay for almost half the cost of the house/land but not quite enough to buy it outright) when I don’t yet have French residency etc. If the house purchase doesn’t go through I will move anyway, rent something as close to La Borne as I can and rent a studio for a year until I am a resident (and EU citizen) if that what it takes but it will be unlikely there will be houses for sale right in La Borne then like there is now, which there are 3 for sale which is extremely rare for any to be for sale actually in the village! I am hoping someone I met through the local tourist center might let me pay her to translate with the owner of the best house who doesn’t speak any English and my French is rusty (but getting better every day) & maybe meet on my behalf with banks or legal authorities…if not I am not sure how to find someone I can pay to do that kind of thing- what would someone do in Germany? I have family in Luxembourg but I haven’t been much in touch so I don’t even know how to best get in touch to see if they would do some of the translation for me…there are so many books on how to move to a lot of countries around the world but weirdly nothing on France, which so many Americans move to, you think there would be more information available more easily!

Woah ok. So I don't have any experience bringing stuff over. I moved over here with 2 suitcases and built up my studio in Germany. Also, if you're talking about electrical equipment, the voltage is different here, so you're probably better off selling and rebuying. For other stuff, I have heard people renting portions of shipping containers and doing it that way. I am no expert but it's a place to start. I have never bought property though so I can't help you there...

@@PotterytothePeople oh, the equipment will be rewired before it is moved, people do that all the time and things like the kilns are already using the same voltage as in Europe, it is actually way cheaper from the information I have recently found on shipping for me to bring it all over than to sell it and rebuy, as I wouldn’t get back nearly enough from what I would sell things for to afford to buy new, an entire studio I carefully bargain shopped and rebuilt things I got for free, and I also have large pieces of equipment and kilns custom made that are not replaceable, they are one of a kind. So I don’t really have a choice, and it will actually save me a lot of money to bring my studio over versus starting from scratch. I just wondered if you had any specific experience or advice, but if you haven’t been through it then that’s fine! Thankfully I am finally finding more resources on moving and mortgages etc it is just a little challenging because most of the advice is for people who won’t have EU citizenship and it is surprisingly tricky to find information on dual citizens moving and what I have to do for residence in an EU country that I am not a citizen in etc. First step for me next week is apparently I should open a French bank account now as it will make it easier to get a mortgage, and to start getting some official documents translated in preparation. I miss the days when I moved with two suitcases…although that is probably going to be close to what I bring in terms of personal possessions lol!
No idea why the internet gods sent me this video but this was wonderful
I thought you were German...
