It's the end of the year and I am broke & tired. Let's make a simple project that has 100% guaranteed satisfaction! In this video, I am making the EASIEST tiles, but that doesn't make them any less beautiful! Adding a second-hand mirror and some scrap wood makes this beautiful heirloom-quality DIY mirror that I am so so proud of.

You remind me of a pottery Simone Giertz 🥰
Watching that glaze dry in the time lapse was SO satisfying 😱

haha I think so too :)
I love watching you go through the creative process - so many video creators only share the finished work, and following your decision-making is so fun and relatable.

yes! that was such luck 😅
Congratulations! Mirror mirror on the fire place… 🤩 let me tell you, I was immediately thinking „yea use the grout on the outside - give the paint back“ ☺️ best greeting from Munich ❤

haha the best decision 🙌
For estimating the second-row tiles, it turns out that (for a circular mirror) each row only requires about 6 (actually 2*pi) more tiles than the previous row! This is why multiplying by 1.5 gave you such an overestimate. Your mirror is an oval, not a circle, but this method still gives a good estimate: you would have needed 74+6=80 tiles for the second row, for a total of 154 tiles.

haha you're way smarter than me :) and I was proud of myself for realizing it would be more tiles!
What a beautiful result! The grout around the outside looks great. I think the blue turning out darker than expected makes the finished product look very elegant. Hope you're having a nice cozy December so far!

I love using the Sherrill mudsponges they don’t pull out the grog
I’ve been wanting to learn how to make frames for photos and other artwork. 🖼️

Ich liebe Deine Art der Arbeit und Deine Ideen die mich sehr stark inspirieren. Weiter so! Und der Spiegel ist einfach amazing. Ich mache mir bestimmt auch etwas in der Art. Danke, dass es Dich gibt!
You always make me want to make a similar project! It's so very beautiful and your thriftiness is "chefs kiss"! I can't wait to see more of your projects.

Thank you!! It wasnt too hard, you can totally do it! 💪
If you lay a piece of plastic wrap over the slab before you cut it and just cut the clay through the plastic, you won't have to smooth the edges. Just lift the plastic every row so that it doesn't get pulled too tight.
Black on the outside! Oh. You have already chosen haha

Na that’s a big rollin pin 😂 I really like the blue as it looks like it has a lighter rim looks really nice x
awesome, it looks great on the white wall. Your a natural 😊. Great idea, looks good. Another project ticked off, What next? And what are you going to do with the extra 100+ tiles you made, you've got to come up with an idea, how about a bowl with a tile inlay or coasters to sit your coffee on while sitting down by the fire. Can't wait for. Ext video x😊
Great project!
Woah, turned out marvelous!
Eeeeee that’s so cool! I want to do the same with my mirror now

hahaha oh no! It was a 50/50 shot. Maybe you were right?
It looks soooo good! It was also so satisfying to see the glaze dry on the tiles after you dipped them. I could watch that for hours 😅

Lovely! Your glazing process is kind of like breading a chicken cutlet: One clean hand for dry, one "dirty" hand for wets.

What about cookie cutters with clay? Could be interesting. A small ceramic star cookie tree. My brain needs to hush now.

for sure! Tiles are so addictive, so many possibilities!
I love the blue/black color combo! In terms of A vs B, i rather thought that alternating in 4 (well, 8 tiles in total) tile sets would look amazing. So A for 4 tiles, B for 4 tiles. Something to consider if you do another project like this

I like the result :) Would it be possible to bevel the big leather hard clay before cutting it in tiles? or does that create other problems?
Hey I am in love with this color 😍 I am newbie in this field from India , could you please help me out regarding how to fire glaze as I am having clay of 1260degree and I have no idea which kind of glaze should I apply 😅
👏👏👏
Love the project, don’t like the grout colour, but that’s only my taste 🙏🏼✌🏼

That is the biggest compliment anyone could give me :)
I love this idea. I had asked my studio instructor about making 4 x 4 tiles for my bathroom floor. He said that it’s very difficult because they end up getting warp and not uniform. Thoughts?
@PotterytothePeople
7 ай бұрын
hmm I dont think it would be too hard. The bigger the tile, the more likely it is to warp, but just make sure you’re keeping them flat as you handle them and dry under pressure. Should be ok! It’s worth making a few sample tiles at least :)
Love this!!

Cool project, but I kept wondering why you made so much work of measuring with a ruler when you could have made a 2cm wide strip of wood? Easy to criticize, I know. Thanks for sharing!

haha that is a great idea. I didn't think of it!
Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you didn't use trapezoid tiles?
@PotterytothePeople
7 ай бұрын
haha that's what I was talking about in the beginning of the video. Too lazy and too much math. I would have to account for shrinkage of the clay, too!
