Making a Karatsu Mishima Plate 【Pottery】
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I am a professional potter from Saga, Japan.
My specialty is Karatsu style "Mishima" technique.
Today, I will make a plate.
For the inlay technique using white slip, I use a method that involves a rubber scraper.
I hope you can enjoy the entire process from wheel throwing to the final firing.

I visited Japan many years ago and could not resist bringing home some small pieces of pottery - they were so beautiful and so characteristicly Japanese. But what you do takes it to a whole new level. The video - complete with summer Hydrangeas - takes me right there with you, thank you so much. I only wish I could pick one of your bowls up and feel the texture of your carving anc your glaze.

옛 조선의 도공들 강제로 일본으로 끌고가서 배운 도자기 기술들
No craftspeople of the world give me the same feeling as watching the Japanese... A calm true mastery of their art. Be it food preparation, woodwork, pottery, building vehicles...

Beautiful pottery. Such skill and talent is a joy to see in the final product.
The craftsmanship is amazing.
Nice work!
That was amazing to watch , such fine craftsmanship. Thank you.
Beautiful Bowls , glaze and design
This is such beautiful art work I can’t imagine how long it takes you too get them done
Modern techniques can turn out a lot of similar products, but they never feel as special or as unique. It's wonderful to see craftsmen still doing things by hand.

C'est vraiment magnifique. J'aime bien aussi l'ambiance paisible de l'atelier et le travail réalisé à l'extérieur avec le chant des oiseaux. Vous faites un beau métier, Monsieur.

As a child I loved watching people making things. Cabinets, my father working on cars, pastries, relatives playing instruments and people dancing to their music. Somewhere along the way I developed a respect for process. Thank you for this video, I enjoyed your skill and I think that if I can ever get one of these pieces I would cherish it all the more for your craftsmanship.

Simply beautiful, thank you for sharing how you make such things.

Thank you for sharing your process and techniques. It's interesting to me how you apply the slip while the piece is still relatively soft greenware. For my part, I would be concerned that the slip could over saturate the pot and distort the shape. Obviously, it doesn't, and it works beautifully. I really like how you placed the pots rim to rim in the drying process to help keep the rims from drying too quickly! It is simply brilliant and easy to do. Your final pieces are elegant and beautiful, yet still keep a rustic quality, which I really enjoy. Many thanks again and blessings to you and yours.

Thank you for the demonstration. I appreciate Karatsu yakiware very much. Twenty years ago I started practice at the Takatori Kiln, in Fukuoka, for too short a time. Coming back to my country I continued doing pottery, but moved to western style, for lack of choice. But my heart is with Japanese pottery. Mishima is beautiful and your craft, admirable.
