How to hunt Mountain Lions

Спорт

I was out and about with the hounds thinking about how and all the different ways people hunt mountain lions. Thought I would share this and how and why I hunt the way I do ... thanks

Love checking out your videos. I’m just a pleasure hunter. I ran two lions this week. One was dry ground and windy. We got a picture of it on a cell camera and were two hours behind it. Not sure what direction to run and ended up not finding him after about four hours the dogs came in when the winds really picked up. Couple days later we cut a track after a fresh snow. Track was about 12 hours old we guessed. Dogs ran it about two miles over some steep dark timber and down into a creek bottom and it was a decent Tom. Nobody wanted to burn a tag so we made him jump and hiked back to the road with the dogs. I guess these methods aren’t what you like but you do what you can where ever you live I suppose. When you’re blessed with snow, sure does make it easier.

Sometimes it sure is hard to figure scent that is ….I’ve trailed 36 hour old tracks in the dirt and had 4 hour old tracks that most of the dogs couldn’t even smell ..had snow tracks that made us look like fools …I’m not against most methods …just most aren’t for me ..I have a vision in my head how I want to hunt and try to do it that way..so far I haven’t been real good at it lol …thanks for the comment and good luck

Another method is to look for birds. They’ll tell on a kill and you can ride down there on your horse and try to get the dogs started. I’m not sure if they used binoculars 100 years ago so it might be cheating to glass for them tho.

Yes they do have a place in nature and a purpose but they are an apex predator .. with out us managing the population eventually they will over populate decimate the deer population and what ever else they can ..then start coming into neighborhoods and eating peoples pets and even worst humans .. someones kids playing in the backyard . look what is happening in places like California .. We are here to help manage and keep a balance .. without us there is no balance all there is is big cycles .. eventually lions starve and die a very horrible death .. check out this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/h312q6ebhbbXerg.html this was a poor old female that was starving and was reduced to just eating birds down on the river .. such a shame for an animal as noble as a lion.
