How to Get Food in the Coldest Village on Earth, Yakutia

If you are wondering what we eat in the coldest inhabited place on Earth, here is the answer. One of the way of how we get the fish from the lake and eat it during the whole winter. Munkha is traditional ice fishing using a seine net. The whole village gathers together to take part in this massive fishing activity.

It's great to see local Yakutian peoples caring for their environment, respecting the nature 'spirits' and sharing the fish with everyone, no money involved at all. We should all learn by this custom. The old man is right about the small fish, in respect to fish like sardines which are very healthy

I believe he is referring to the scientific method of analyzing fish toxicity. Generally, toxicity increases as fish move up higher in the food chain system. Essentially, the scientific data introduced a theory based on data. They say that as more little fish are eaten by larger fish, then the larger fish becomes more toxic. They say that all fish are bio accumulators of toxins and that the toxins are stored heavily in the fish oils. Their math suggests 1+1+1+1=1 Their flawed decisions tell people that the best fish to eat is the fish eats lowest in the food chain. These experts will tell you that a fish eating a plant based diet is a more healthy fish. They go on to profess that when you cook fish it should be done on a grill grate to allow as much fish oil as possible to drip out and away from the fish leaving you with a cleaner less toxic protein. Truth is that the waters have mostly become heavily contaminated and that the contamination is increasing through both concentration and inputs. The toxic soup is made up of heavy metals, unstable elements, pesticides and fertilizer. Crop production systems utilizing chemicals always release copious amounts of toxins into the surface and ground water. The battery acid like sulfuric acid leaches metals from the rocks in the soil. The toxic metals then are free to travel with the water. Irrigation speeds the processes. According to the experts in the USA, nearly all fish are unsafe for women, children and immune system depressed people. That's pretty much everyone isn't it. While the USA placed emphasis on not allowing the use of chemicals called 'Forever Chemicals', which remain active in the soils and are carried by rain and flood into all water systems where the continue concentrating until something bioaccumulates the chemical where it then can be spread higher up in the food chain. Essentially, you and your beef. To add more injuries the USA ramps up coal burning. The scientific solution was to add scrubbing to the waste stream. Now we know that Arsenic flows more toxic within the steam than ever before. The continuous outflow of arsenic covers all surfaces of the USA. The Arsenic created by coal burning rapidly and increasing flows through surface waters to lake concentration and recharge into ground water. That's pretty much the entire fresh water column. The oceans are huge but......guess what? Note: Fish oil is good but Arsenic causes your bones to become brittle. Your hips will crack. Your ribs will break. The dense to thinner areas fracture with spider cracks. Even your leg bones feel sore from fractures. No body is testing your beef. They USDA and Commodity Producers are practicing solution by dilution in meat monitoring. It ain't over yet folks.

What an inspiring tradition, all working together like that to support everyone in the village by sharing the work and the harvest. The wisdom of the elder who leads the harvest is used to contribute to the whole community. This is the way it should be. It is also very good that the lake will be left to fully recover for several years before it is fished again. This is the balance and sustainable way to allow the fish population to fully recover and regenerate. Here in the US so many of our elders are in "homes" living away from their families and communities. They are made to feel their lives are over and they are being housed and waiting to die instead of being valued and valuable member of their communities. We are wasting them and missing out on their wisdom and experience. Thank you for sharing this amazing tradition! It's an example for the world.
