Living in the MARSHES OF IRAQ (Didn't Expect This)

The Mesopotamian Marshes in the south of Iraq are easily one of the most soulful, amazing places I have ever visited. But their history hides some very dark events... This trip was organized by the awesome Ali, who runs the travel start-up Bilweekend. Check them out if you're thinking of visiting: www.bilweekend.com / / bilweekend
& a big thank you to Abo Haider for his hospitality!

This is one of my favorite episodes. I have been very interested and studying ancient Iraq/Mesopotamia. The cities of Eridu, Ur, Uruk, Larsa, Umma, Lagash, Ninevah, and Babylon were the first major cities in the world. Iraq and the surrounding areas around and between the Tigris and Euphrates were the first to develop widespread irrigation and modern farming techniques. The culture is incredibly ancient. People have been living, fishing, farming, this rich cultural area for 10,000 years or more. What a rich culturual heritage.

It's amazing that you know about ancient Iraq and Mesopotamia's old cities, and we are welcoming you whenever you want to visit Iraq and especially Ninevah.
I am from Iraq and this man is my father. We live in the south of Iraq in the Marshes of Chabayish
I would love to visit this place and actually might ... such lovely, friendly, loving strong people. Never met an Iraqi in the US that wasn't honest and friendly, so I can only imagine how the people are there. Thank you for showing this side of the Country, it is priceless.

Despite all the painful events that occurred in Iraq, the Iraqi people still preserve their own culture, hospitality, respect, and their beautiful lyrical and musical heritage. Greetings from Libya is for all the wonderful Iraqi people, and you are the amazing Eva Zu Beck.

It’s really just Arabic. The Kurds, Assyrians, Turkmen, and Shabak are all up in the extreme north only. Majority is just Arab divided between Shias, Sunnis and some Christians (who unfortunately largely left after 2003). The reason why northern non Arab minorities are included in Iraq is because a British and French diplomat divided the Middle East into Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon 100 years ago forcing the north to be part of Iraq. Most of Kurds and Assyrians were in southern Turkey during the Ottoman Empire, but were savagely genocided forcing many to flee to northern Iraq.

No. She travels there, makes a video the she's off having done nothing for them from her heart...that's the truth. she thinks she's doing good for them but she's doing for her self and her own need to be around people she wished she was....

I’m glad it’s your Biblical theme park. For Iraqis, it’s their home. Their home that the US starved and bombed throughout the 90s followed by a war based on lies that took hundreds of thousands of more Iraqis. Their entire infrastructure was taken out and heritage was stolen. Why? Well because a bunch of Bible thumpers like yourself were in office.

Thanks, Eva! I hope and pray one day politicians around the world leave normal people alone and let everyone enjoy short life! Same ecological problems exist in my mother’s land, Iran, and it seems no one is doing anything about it. We just need to do our shares to make the world a better place!
I also remember being dreamy and mesmerized when learning about Mesopotamia ❤
Simply lovely and amazing side of Iraq we don't get to see. Thank you 🙏🏿
You shock me, Eva zu Beck, showing places I vaguely heard about (like the marshes of Iraq), and now I am there with you. If only, I could meet you, to hug you like the manner I hug my Daughters. I have now watched you for close to one year, and with the Pandemic still a very serious threat to the Planet, my getaway is You, Bald, Johnny FD, and Yeah Russia, but mostly you. I retired from my position as Professor in Medicine, my main role was teaching Medical Students. I wanted to thank you for these 2 Programs of Iraq, I always felt the Prejudice stemmed from Radicals, but the real Iraqis are at home, still as authentic as God wanted them. A wonderful report from beginning to end. I can't get enough of watching it. What amazes people is the simplicity of people despite the cruelty of life.. and what most caught my attention is the hatred of politicians, religion, who destroyed this divine beauty for nothing but the fulfillment of their authoritarian whims.

Among things invented there ( some of the very old ones only) 1. Wheel 2. Agriculture specifically wheat 3. The first human criminal Law & justice system. 4. Mathematics 5. @@lok_778 Hi!🙌🏽
Eva you are just leading your exploration into another level.
It is our pleasure that tourists come to visit our regions. You are welcome
Crazy Eva! Crazy Eva! A boatload of love for you dear! You are brave! You deserve all the attention for all that you do!
Eva, you have no idea how brave you are. I am 200 cm tall and 110 kg heavy Special Police Units member, I saw Yugoslav war and stuff but I could never visit Iraq or similar countries alone. Well done, girl, and please never stop being super careful!

I to was surprised that Eva was able to travel freely and that the locals greeted her with such warm welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. With all that Iraq has been thru I might not have expected Eva to get such a warm welcome. I would be interesting to see if the whole country is like this now and if the political environment is as warm throughout the whole country.

@@douglasw5371 thank you for your nice comment, yes there are some places ( let say 30% of the populated area) that is not fully ready to host tourists with firm security for them. Kurdistan is definitely the best and safest part to start with , then you should probably avoid the north west and west part of Iraq in the meantime, while the rest like Baghdad and anything south to it till the gulf is absolutely safe and fun, good luck in your travels.
Another amazing look at some amazing places and beautiful people!
What an amazing experience. And so nice to see the side of Iraq that is just people living there lives. Than-you!
I was born in Baghdad and I grew up there, nowadays I live in CA and I feel strange here where no friendly people, I want to back to my lovely Iraq
Iraq, the land of first civilizations had been flourishing for thousands of years. The political movements from 1958 up to now changed it and killed its spirit. Eva, excellent and amazing visit.

Political movements from 1958 killed the spirits? How about British colonialism that created the fake borders of Iraq and placed a puppet government in 1920 making all the people of “Iraq” revolt and that was crushed by the British killing 10,000 Iraqis? Learn history.
Hi Eva .. Thanks for visiting our land Iraq .. I was almost crying seeing this video.
