What Is It Like Working in the Coldest City On Earth? -62°C (-79.6°F), Yakutsk

The Coldest Inhabited City on Earth - Yakutsk. In this unforgiving climate, there are workers who put their lives on the line to keep the city running and ensure the safety of its inhabitants. I'm from a Nordic country that's considered quite cold enough. But this Yakutsk stuff is on another level. I find it quite unbelievable that they would do construction (and the other jobs) at those temperatures. They seem like great and tough people though, all the best to the people of Yakutsk.

Awesome dedication by the Firefighters. I spent 35 years in the fire service and faced some harsh winter conditions, but nothing like that! Russians never complain. They suffer in silence. They don't even dare to oppose their authorities sending troops to commit acts of aggression against a neighboring country. Like second person who got interviewed, I'm a building contractor in a so tropical country. I think that working there (Yakutsk) is so challenging in many factors. For instance, electrical conductivity will decline by decreasing of temperature, which possibly costs a big threat of welding work or any works supported by electricity. Not to mention the limitation of their sight and movement. All of them who worked there are really tough & persistent people!!

I'm not sure how I came across this channel, but I love it. It's so interesting seeing how people adapt to live in these environments. One thing I wonder is, besides the obvious frostbite/hypothermia, are there any common health issues that come with living in such harsh conditions?

@@sandhyanagarajan Hello, I used Google to translate the two comments above you. There may be errors but I think the translation gets the point across! 1. "Yes, I have. For example, problems with pneumonia, kidney disease, heart disease. Diseases of vision. And at the expense of the fact that the locals are accustomed to the cold - this is not true. Nobody can get used to the cold. We have a hot summer + 40, a very warm autumn, we get used to the heat, and then abruptly - cold! A brutal cold winter is coming! But we remember it, therefore, we are psychologically prepared for it. Only mentally prepared, but still cold, but what to do?" 2. "I still don't understand why it gets so cold there. It’s just that it happens there that at the end of autumn it was still normal, and then it gets sharply cold. And it would be nice if the temperature there dropped to - 15, but it drops to -30 to -50 degrees. It feels like the cold from the upper layers of the atmosphere descends sharply, just at an altitude of 10 km where planes fly just the temperature is 50 degrees. Living in the south of western Siberia, there are also frosts up to -30 to -40, but this is very rare. And you have a freezer there. If you had land there with frosts at least up to -30, it would be better and easier to live."

I really like watching these winter videos about Yakutia, since the extremely harsh winters are its main and unique characteristics, but let me ask something In the future, will you do a video about an average summertime day in Yakutsk? I'm pretty curious how different the city and its inhabitants daily lives in a warm July day when it's averaging +26°C, occasionally above +30°C (I've seen pictures where people are bathing in the Lena river etc.) I would like to see a video like that aswell 😁
