ahhh chkdsk - from back in the day and after now being a Mac user, I had to go back to my windows computer to recover the files, it has been two weeks now. Thank you so much for this as I have been messing around with testdisk and other utilities and simple chkdsk did the job : bless you :)

Thanks a lot sir, I was able to fix my RAW disk which was formatted by NTFS and I was able to recover data from it.

Perfect, thanks for the great video! I had a hard disk that had not been opening, but wanted to recover the files inside. I accidentally discovered its format was raw (otherwise could have not discovered this video) and searched how to recover files from raw format hard disk. Google suggested this video, and to be honest, first part was disappointing to see "just format it" :) But I am glad it proceeded to command prompt command to change raw format to ntfs. Now my hard disk opens as before, all files intact and works perfectly! Writing in detail so that you can also evaluate your marketing/content activities - that what you did with this video content is great. I took the advice from 3:19 and can use my data on the external SSD again :)))) Before that I was nervous all day because I didn't know if I would be able to recover the data: / The disk was in the NTFS file system (for some reason the disk was not recognized. (RAW date ...)).

@@BYTIGERCuba I'm correct and you are wrong. It works with NTFS but Not FAT. If the hdd was formated ntfs but went RAW chkdsk will work. However, if the drive was FAT prior to going RAW chkdsk will Not work.

I'm running windows 10 Pro/64 and lost power during disk check. To my surprise windows wouldn't boot anymore and when booted in cmd and checked with Diskpart , my drive was RAW. It shouldn't have been such a surprise since instead of C:\windows\system32 I was getting X:\windows\system32. That X: drive should have been a clue but.... Tried the regular chkdsk [Drive:] [parameters] and got the "write protected drive" crap. The I've tried the chkdsk [parameters][Drive:] command and it worked like a charm . The partition was NTFS in no time and windows was happily booting again. Pure luck ? But worth a try before buying recovery software and all that.

Hello Hetman Software .... I need help .. I have my OS in SSD and had other 1TB HDD which i cleaned by mistakenly in diskpart with clean command ... now that HDD shows as raw format with no data in it....It shows 931 GB free with RAW format....Is there any solution to get my data back and get HDD back in NTFS

When I scanned my damaged drive I can see "deep analise" and NTFS of my drive. When I explore NTFS my folders are all empty, but when I go to deep analize I can see all of them grouped by type like pdf etc. What do I do wrong? I want to backup them from the NTFS option

from now on EVERYTHING GOES ONTO THE CLOUD no more hard copies . and this didnt work either

This worked perfectly for me. Just sayin''.

While copying a number of large files from my old 750GB "My Passport" HDD, (uses an external 3.0 USB connection), to an internally mounted SSD, the Passport drive would suddenly stop in the middle of the process. I would have no choice but to use the Windows Safe Removal option and unplug it from the USB port. I then would reconnect it and try again. In each attempt, I would succeed in copying some of the files to the SSD before the HDD Passport would crash and stop. This happened 3 or 4 times and then suddenly the Passport failed to be recognized by my Windows O/S, (I have Windows 10 Pro). I changed and tried another USB 3.0 cable, which I knew was definitely good and I even tried changing the drive letter in the Disk Management system. That didn't work and I changed the drive letter back to what it was. When I plug the drive into a USB 3.0 port, Windows opens a note saying: “Select to choose what happens with removable drives”. I tried changing the removal policy to another option but that didn't work either. The Disk Management sees the drive as "RAW" and if I reformat the drive, I'll lose about 400GB of important data and photographs dating back to 2004. So I then tried your instruction using an elevated prompt and chkdsk. ”. When I tried the elevated command prompt; “Chkdsk D:” the command prompt would abort the ChkDsk procedure stating: “The type of the file system is NTFS. Insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data. Unable to determine volume version and state”. When I tried the elevated command prompt; “Chkdsk D: /f” the command prompt would abort the ChkDsk procedure and simply state: “The type of the file system is NTFS. Unable to determine volume version and state”. This doesn't sound good to me. Do you think that I've lost the data or do you suppose one of the recovery programs can get it back? Thanks, Rich

What if the drive is the same one that has the Windows on it??

I formated my disk from RAW to NTFS then I used EaseUS Data recovery and I was able to recover files showed as 0 Ko size. After formatting they passed to MB size .

You have to buy the program licence key to get access to your photos which isn't mentioned.

I have bough a USB and I’ve started copying some data in it. After a while copying stops and the pop up that to use USB first format the USB. Now it’s not being formatting and in disk management it is shown as RAW but when I right click on drive there is properties and help option available all other options including format and change letter etc are grey means I can’t select them. Kindly help me out in this issue. Waiting for your prompt reply.

Im having issues just trying to get the drive detected on my computer. Then I can use disk management to confirm a raw drive is present and use recovery software. I got it to detect once on an amd system by plugging data cable into while at desktop and disk management after a bit recognized it. But no luck on Intel system. I'm trying to recover data from a family members system that had a virus. It converted it from ntfs to raw

Was able to recover the files but the on an unregistered version. Don't have money to purchase the commercial edition please help me

Watch the video to understand some basics of disk utilities in Windows, for everything else you have to pay for the software otherwise you won't be able to recover any data, at least should have offered a trial recovery.

After the program has completely scanned the hard drive, you can see all the data that it was able to find. Selecting files one by one, you can see the live preview (pictures, documents, videos, etc.). If the preview is displayed correctly, then you can completely restore this file. Now the decision is yours, it is worth restoring them or not.

Of course NOT! Once formatted, all the data will be gone. No recovery can be done!

Using a special data recovery software - this is the only way to recover any data from RAW disk

chkdsk works on drives formatted NTFS. I've read that drives formatted FAT will not work with chkdsk.

I have a serious problem. My hard disk showed as RAW and it was showing on Windows, but then I did something "clever" by going and changin the order of my hard disks on the BIOS settings. After that my hard disk is not visible even on Windows. Does anybody know what to do after that?

Hello i just made mistake choosing the wrong disk to be formatted. I wanted to format my sd card but I formatted my computer drive instead to fs=fat32, the progress is already 50% until then I realized it. I was panicked dont know what to do and restart my pc. my computer’s drive was gone and I found your video. I already scan my internal hdd using hetman but there’s nothing found. I also check using different recover app but found nothing too. The int hdd was divided into 3 drives before and now it’s only 1. Why theres nothing file found after scanning? Is there step I missed?

After type the comment , it will show some error , the error is " unable to determine volume version and state . CHKDSK aborted . Pls help me resolve the issue

Run command line "as administrator"

CHKDSK restored (some) of the data and shows the disk is almost full. BUT it doesn't let me access it. It says the hidden folder does not actually contain the files. Quite useless! Never use chkdsk! I keep forgetting that!

Why cant we switch it back to ntfs instead of raw without reformatting drive? in recovery software it sais ntfs but windows sais raw, there must be a unformatter program somewhere :/ ???

Make sure you run a cmd.exe like administrator, Start -> Run -> cmd -> Ctrl+Shift+Enter

You can scan your files with the free version of Hetman Partition Recovery software. It will show you the files it can find for recovery. In the preview window you will see if your files are corrupted or not. In case everything is fine, you will be able to register and recover your files

My RAW external HDD cannot be repaired by chkdsk and even your program cannot see it :/
