How to fit a Dado Rail
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video guide, we show you how to fit a dado rail to your wall. We start by measuring and marking out a chalk line, fitting the first dado rail length and showing you how to do a scribe join.
Dado rails were originally used to protect your walls from chair backs. They are now used as a style feature or to break up two sections or wallpaper.

That corner looks like fuck all squared. Why not just cut both rails at a 45° angle and join them up in the corner.

Internal corners aren’t usually mitred but scribed because walls aren’t usually perfect right angles so you end up with a sliver of a gap. External mitres can be pinched together easier

Absolutely my idea also.

thanks
nice!
If I had the ability to cut a scribe joint I wouldn't be on KZread looking how to fit dado rails.
Hi, which dado rail did you use from your site for this project please? x
best adhesive is expanding foam beautiful stuff.
From the ceiling to the mark ,not from the floor as most buildings subside a fraction.when you sit down you will be looking at a slanted dedo rail if your floor is out.
What sort of fixing would you recommend for masonry walls?

No more nails.
Wouldn't it have been easier to cut the first dado with a 45 degree cut too, so when you are placing the second one they join perfectly without the need for scribing?

Not every corner is perfectly 90 degrees. Coping allows for a better join. Also two mitre joins tend to open up and cracks your caulk
If you want to attach mdf sheets to the wall too (for wall panelling) do you put the dado rail on top of the mdf or attach it to the mdf

Did anyone respond? I have the same question!

@@jobloggs7400 you can rebated dado rails or you can do it yourself with a router. So then the MDF sheet tucks into the rebate.
Why 900 mill up I’ve did my own height to fit an ornate pattern wallpaper under it

900mm is a good level for a room with standard height ceilings- particularly if you're using it functionally to protect the wall from furniture bashing the plaster. However this is only a suggestion, so if it looks good for you at a different height then go for it! Thanks for commenting on our video :-)
what size nails did u use?

Hi, There is no specific nail size as long as you are using an adhesive (you are tacking it in place until the adhesive goes off). Personally, I would say you need at least double the thickness of the material you are using eg If it's an 18mm thick dado rail then use 40mm nails. if you are not going to use adhesive then you would need much longer nails.

Why put a nail on the curve rather than inside a groove... Duh

So why no show how to mitre the corners and at what degree is the mitre saw supposed to be at ,the way you do it is easy fir you but for me it’s easier to just mitre the corners

@Kacie Jones it only looks better if the walls are completely square, scribing allows you to set dado rails or skirting on a wall that isn't perfectly square.

@Kacie Jones Only with square walls.

Isn't it best to just put it in line with your windowsill ? Mine is 96cm above the ground, so the eye would see the long line of my 180cm long sill, then a dado rail either side which wouldn't continue that eyeline, but would suddenly make the eye move down 6cm and break the flow. It would drive me nuts looking at it !
You cant just bop nails in the plasterboard can you, you have to find the studwork below, thats not always easy
maybe I will pencil and 3ft line of the floor then use no nails, and very strong glue to stick it on! comments disabled by moderator (pin)
I would not be impressed
It's good to see Woodglut have new instructions to save my money and energy to build it.
